Would people still flock to a Boiler Room stage if it was a bunch of lesser known DJs? Personally I think it would be a great idea if they did this and just omitted the Boiler Room brand. The Yuma bookings have been uninspired the last couple of years with most of the acts I’m actually excited to see playing before 4:00 pm in there at this point. Would love a more obscure electronic stage with minimal production over in the corner where they put DESPACIO.
They just need to move the bigger acts out of the Yuma and improve the bookings.
Right I feel a bunch of people would try to go on Friday and then be like WTF is this and leave if it was a bare bones production with relatively unknown DJs. Boiler Room or not.

Oh I meant the opposite. Boiler room is normally not famous DJs cause it’s all about the setup and energy. I think they would get a crowd regardless if it ran like the Do Lab. Low level DJs until 830pm
I really wonder if Goldenvoice could actual get them, they would get better mileage with 2 straight days of Cruel World 2024. But Duran Duran are on the poster.
Otherwise a great mock up, even if Im staying out of the Coachella loop.

Let's say they got Talking Heads, and let them pick their opener a la Gorillaz/Bjork. Who do y'all think it would be? I had figured LCD would work perfectly, but they're out now. St. Vincent's definitely not big enough but I could see her getting somewhere on the bill with Byrne (she was working on new music with Nile Rodgers earlier this year as well).

Hmm... this is a good question. Car Seat Headrest has covered the Heads, but I'm not sure if they'd be on their radar. I don't know why but Franz Ferdinand feels like an option. The way I'd approach this question is finding out their modern tastes, but a quick google search shows me no info on that.

I had Mitski as the sub for when I had Talking Heads on a mock. Apparently she has no interest in Coachella due to political reasons though.
Don’t really have an answer to the talking heads question but in looking at his most recent Spotify playlist apparently David Byrne is a big Lauren Daigle fan??

Lana Del Rey.
But seriously, I think picks like LCD Soundsystem or St. Vincent might be too like-for-like for an opener. Like if we would've asked this same question for Bad Bunny or Frank Ocean, nobody here would've guessed Gorillaz or Björk. For my mock I kinda had to guess who they'd have a great appreciation for and thankfully David Byrne puts out playlists somewhat frequently. Originally I had Halsey opening up for Talking Heads since David listed Bad At Love as one of his favorite songs. Looking at who else he has included in his playlists, I also considered Peso Pluma.
And for Dua Lipa, my original pick was A$AP Rocky since she's apparently a huge fan of his but if not him, I think she'd go with a hip-hop artist as an opener.

Pipe dream is Missy Elliott as a sub for Dua. Would also wonder if Tame Impala would do it considering Kevin’s help on the album.
