On the real though, haven't headliners (at the time they played) always been larger arena-szied acts that eventually shot up to stadium-level acts? Kendrick def was not doing stadium acts in 2017, nor was Ariana in 2019, nor LCD Soundsystem ever. Small batch of examples, but I think we're getting mixed up with how big the acts were when they were headlining fests like Coachella as opposed to where they may be now.
GNR, Beyoncé, Gaga, Harry, Bunny, Blackpink. All at least baseball stadium level
Isn't Baseball stadium level kinda it's own thing. Always felt like those are just one off shows in major city's.

What if instead of the Talking Heads, they had a WWWY style rotating stage setup and had each band on the Stop Making Sense tribute album perform each song while the band sits at a judge style table where frank's ice rink was and scores each performance out of 10. That would be the best headliner act for sure.
I feel like iii Points has put their flag down with Despacio and are trying to make it happen every year going forward. I feel like it's going to happen again this year with the likely fall Soulwax tour/fest stop.
I am still 40/60 on Taylor headlining. Paul wouldnt take a chance at her being person of the year for the second year in a row. Dude likes to strike the iron while its hot and I could absolutely see him on his hands and knees for this. It would be monumental, unprecedented, and it would draw an insane amount of revenue and press. Prince just plopped on the lineup last minute that one year. He got Beyonce to do like, her only festival appearance ever. Taylor is not out of the realm of possibility, and it would certainly make sense why the other two headliners would be Tyler/Lana.
Im also really stupid and gullible so Im prob just drinking the koolaid
American festival lineups are a hot ass mess this year.
Every festival so far has had to work to a budget in a major inflationary environment this year because they need to be some sort of a profit center for their Parent or exist (e.g. Hangout couldn't be a huge loss for AEG so they chose to get big headliners and sacrifice mid-card)
Coachella has earned the right to invest in the future and doesn't need to "turn a major profit" every year given its cultural cache. At least that's my hope and this is a major chance to differentiate for everyone else

I think this is pretty true, for the most part stadium acts fall into three categories
1: Concert with a extremely good bill - For example RHCP isn't a stadium act but when you add The Strokes, Post Malone and Thundercat as openers they are now a stadium act
2: Old White People Fan Base - Rolling Stones
3: True Stadium level fame - Taylor Swift, Bad Bunny, Beyonce,
The only true stadium act Coachella has had is Bad Bunny iirc
weeknd was, beyonce was, i'd say Harry was. would also edit ur #2 to just rich white people fan base, which tay, Zach Bryan, and Harry Styles also falls into
Okay I'll say it: it's time for a Coachella cum leak, even if its just a dribble. GV can only give us blue balls so many times before someone blows a load so messy that it scrambles the lineup placements.

This. Could you imagine if Coachella manages to pull off Taylor Swift? It truly would be legendary.
