Why does Coachella seemingly have this problem almost every year now?
Since 2018 its been headliner issues/swaps or delays every year (2017 had Beyonce swap with Gaga, but that was understandable and she played the next year)

someone else mentioned this but I will drop this from Paul Tollet's SXSW Australia this october:
“I haven’t even finished booking next April’s show, and it announces in January,” revealed Tollett, who also stated that in the first 10 years of Coachella he wouldn’t start booking April’s event until the September beforehand. “Things have changed so much now, people want to book a year in advance,” he said. “I don’t want to, I want to wait and see what’s out there.
if it's a billing issue/negotiation because they accidentally got too many #1s they should be able to solve that by simply adding another RTTD slot on the poster

That's the best way to book. Use as much time as you can to get a great lineup. Who cares if it drops 1/2 vs 1/22. Twenty days could mean the difference between standard lineup vs a inspired lineup

Then imagine what you could do with twenty one. Savage and Pilots.

its the right way to book if you have the cultural / artist cache to stop other competitors from announcing the same acts as you for sure
Does announcing a few weeks late discourage travelers from attending? I guess veterans would already have their lodging set up. I'm local so it doesn't really affect me. But I'm curious if that affects anyone here out of the country, or on the East coast

Probably not.
If anything I think having it further away from the December holidays will help sales.

Thats like how the final FYF ( that happened ) went down. They got too many names and had to add the 3rd day to make it all work. Its a good problem to have but you have to sort it out somehow.

I think it just matters on what your choices are. So you got Coachella, Bonnaroo, Bottlerock, Hangout, Gov Ball etc all announcing within a week or so of each other. People want to look at every poster then make a financial decision. If youre missing the biggest one then thats a problem. Maybe you just go to the one thats closer to you and you figure some of those coach acts tour in your city anyway. The longer they wait, then you just have people move onto something else. Unless there was some giant name waiting in the wings to get attendees to pull the trigger when its official

everything else aside, LiveNation pushing their narrative and hyping their own lukewarm festival through a shill like FestiveOwl, who everyone pretends is just a Guy Who Knows Stuff, is just the lamest thing ever.

Coachella adding a mini Thursday line up?? I'd be here for it

Half the problem since 2018 was their obsession with booking Kanye years after it was clear he was unreliable human garbage.
The other half seems to be they're just bad at their job and/or the dog keeps eating their homework.
