Thats like how the final FYF ( that happened ) went down. They got too many names and had to add the 3rd day to make it all work. Its a good problem to have but you have to sort it out somehow.
Coachella adding a mini Thursday line up?? I'd be here for it
I dont think so. Like silent disco and stuff is enough. And you would have to re arrange soundchecks and whatnot too. Lots of acts are there on thursday putting finishing touches on things. Like maybe Sahara having a couple djs would be cool but you gotta staff it and stuff. And not open the entire grounds. Lots of moving parts to consider. Then they can justify charging even more cause youu get a few notable names for an opening thursday. Its really ok how it is. Let everyone hang out in camping and watch the sunset on the hill.

Unless you do something smaller, like when they would open up the dome when it was inside the festival grounds and the bass face camping sessions. I get you wouldn’t put big names on there, but I got to see flying lotus, 12th planet, deadalus, free the robots, Nosaj thing, jakes in the campgrounds. Nowadays it’s unknown djs in a “silent disco”.
So I am all stressed about not having a line up in a very entitled and privileged kinda way...i accept that and fully acknowledge this about my self....but poor Paul T, that son of a gun has to be going through it right about now. I do kinda feel for My Guy. He gonna need a vacation before the festival for sure!!
Cringe alert but knowing how LDR has operated in the past, she and her team wouldn’t budge *if they’re locked in for a headlining spot. I feel the same way about Tyler, especially considering he has a good relationship with GV. My hunch is (and I know nothing) someone’s not budging.
Why does Coachella seemingly have this problem almost every year now?
Since 2018 its been headliner issues/swaps or delays every year (2017 had Beyonce swap with Gaga, but that was understandable and she played the next year)
Half the problem since 2018 was their obsession with booking Kanye years after it was clear he was unreliable human garbage.
The other half seems to be they're just bad at their job and/or the dog keeps eating their homework.
The suggestions earlier in this thread that PT and Goldenvoice don't really start booking this thing until December would make the chaos more sensible (but still self-inflicted), but don't seem to line-up with the fact that other fests who would be impacted by exclusivity and radius clauses have been locked in well in advance of Coachella extending offers.
Whatever has been happening over there since 2018, it's extremely shoddy. If Coachella didn't have the setting, aura and status it does, it probably would have collapsed in on itself at somepoint over the past few years. No other fest would have the industry rushing to bail them out of their self-created messes.
After what happened to Tyler (and everyone else on Beyonce's main stage that year) in 2018, he wouldn't come back unless he was headlining AND closing out the mainstage. He wants everyone in the crowd to be there for him, not for someone after him.

I have no idea what's happening here, but don't extend a headliner offer unless you're sure you want them to headline or have a clearly defined arrangement ("headlining unless we secure impossible to book act A, in which case..."). That whole MCR mess was such a bad look, I would have hoped they cleaned shit up after that.
everything else aside, LiveNation pushing their narrative and hyping their own lukewarm festival through a shill like FestiveOwl, who everyone pretends is just a Guy Who Knows Stuff, is just the lamest thing ever.

It’s super disrespectful. I don’t think LDR would take it lightly at all.

Agreed. Most of us don't want Doja, but if they legit offered her a contract and took it away just as fast, that's sloppy business. Especially if she actually signed the agreement. Even asking someone to adjust their billing, if already agreed upon, is pretty crappy. I think they're a little too cocky tbh. If it weren't for their unique, beautiful location, Coachella would be in danger of losing a lot of luster.
I also feel like they need another iconic performance, soon, to draw in the younger people. For me and people around my age, it was Dre & Snoop/Tupac hologram, for people younger it was Beyonce. Other festivals will catch up in the next 5 years or so imo.

Everyone can see him in LA every year in the fall and they are there just for him. If he is a headliner it would be such a baffling decision on GV part. What's the value prop for a accessable headliner in that market

This is why from now on they should book all non-elite tier gets as RTTD. Book Lana, Tyler, Doja all as RTTD and make two happy when they get bumped up to main HL.
HITSDD reported Lana and Tyler as locks; I’m inclined to believe that. Those are two artists that wouldn’t take a demotion or $ in lieu of a performance (MCR) lightly.
I could see it being a situation where they got a third (TRS or Taylor) close to lineup drop and are asking Lana/Tyler to move (because Doja wouldn’t make sense it RTTD) and neither are. 🤷♂️

Other festivals are only falling further behind though

Lana and Tyler are the goat(s) I must speak my truth.
Book notoriously flakey Frank Ocean, bury him publicly after the predictable happens
Become seemingly incapable of ever starting a headlining set on time
Release schedules as late as the day of arrival, all while the cost to attend goes up, up and up and resale value sinks.
One of these days artists and fans aren't going to be so accommodating and other festivals will take advantage. This stuff never happens overnight, but I fear this festival is really starting to show the impacts of mixing hubris with neglect.
