Coachella, don’t listen to the haters. I love you, and you love me. We don’t owe anyone anything… they jealous because you are rocking my world every night…yeah I said it, the lineup is fire 🔥
Coachella built its reputation by having a mix of legends and whatever's popular with the younger crowd at that particular time. I know the festival has been moving further away from that, but there's nothing interesting about these 3 acts in 2024.
Okay thats not true, but the combo of the three sure isnt.
Damon Albarn explicitly said that Bad Bunny wanted him to sub. I can’t recall where Frank picking Bjork came from - I think Bjork said that - but that was confirmed too.
The exception to the rule is not the rule. It's the exception.
I've seen the Zane Lowe interview and it really wasn't that clear. In discussing Coachella Lowe says "So Bad Bunny said 'I'd like to play with Gorillaz?" and Albarn says "Yeah, I think so. I think so..." and his hesitation makes it look like he doesn't really know and doesn't want to give a definitive answer but is guessing. Go watch it for yourself. Certainly not a "confirmation."
The Bjork quote is a little more convincing that Frank had some influence, but it's just not clear what that meant. "It was Frank Ocean who specifially asked me to play with him, it was one of the reasons why I said yes based on the musical point of view." How that played out behind the scenes is anyone's guess. Was Bjork already booked and Frank asked to have her sub on his day? Maybe. Was Bjork in negotiations and Frank contacted her to convince her to sign on because he respects her as an artist? Maybe. Was Frank booked and he went to GV and insisted that Bjork be his sub and GV made it happen? Seems unlikely. None of that is clear and no one actually knows how the situation played out.
Would GV listen if a headliner says hey I see XXXX is already booked, would you consider putting them on my day opening for me? Of course they would listen regardless of whether they actually follow through or not. Does GV go to headliners pre-emptively and say who do you want as a sub, we'll go ahead and book them? Hell no. There's zero reason to hand over that control to a booked artist unless they're throwing the kitchen sink at a rare, reluctant headliner.
Some people in this forum talk about it like it's something that occurs regularly and is a given, which is absurd. The history shows two examples (against obviously dozens of other times when headliners had zero control or influence), neither of which the circumstances are even clear other than artists who obviously like and respect each other talking about playing together without any idea of whether the booking or stage slot was just influenced, commented on after the fact, or actually controlled by the headliner.
It's a molehill made into a mountain and the betting window is open for anyone who wants to stake some $15 lemonades on it going forward.

Posting this before the lineup coming out is almost as delusional as those hating on it cuz the rumored headliners.

Does Tyler headlining suggest that he's dropping a new album? I feel like the timing would be weird otherwise considering he hasn't dropped a full-length project since 2021, you'd think they'd wait until he has something new to offer
Truvine lineup? Sorry someone bring this up for me I'm just finishing up work
Explain Lana’s IG post if she isn’t headlining. Because she sure as hell wouldn’t do all that to sub. Also the HITSDD confirmation comes straight from the source so..

2023 lineup was the perfect example of that mix, with a ton of rare acts for "old heads" and some of the most popular artists in the world. It would be unlikely they would go from booking Chem Bros, Gorillaz, Bjork, Underworld and Jai Paul to totally abandoning acts with that sort of crew.
And, Lana and Tyler have both been around for 10 years at this point. Having a deep catalogue and still appealing to young audiences feels great for a headliner.
The bigger problem with Tyler, IMO, is he self admittedly had a totally dead crowd in 2018. Even if most of that is due to Beyonce, I don't think his popularity has grown that much, and people going just for him seem more likely to go to his own annual festival.
Lana is more exclusive than people on here seem to think, this'll be her first So Cal show in five years.
Doja is a total miss, no exclusivity, played recently, and just blah.

A good chunk of the US in the private inforoo forums already saw it 🧛🏽♂️xoxo
I don't think its any "weaker" than 2019, but in 2019 I was super excited about catching tame and childish gambino and this year I'm not really excited about any of them.
Will probably catch at least a bit of all of them though.
2019 had a bigger headliner than any of these three (Ariana) but also a smaller one (Tame). But it was a great genre split; between those three almost everyone had a headliner they might be interested in. Not the case this year.
I do think Roo has the bigger set of headliners this year.
Hell, Hangout’s headliners are arguably bigger than what Coachella is getting.
Post & Chilis are bigger than our three; Fred smaller IMO. And Zach Bryan's bigger than any of our three; not great that Hangout has a bigger headliner than Coachella.
Is a RTTD slot even something thats feasible this year? Wasnt last year the first time something like that happened and probably because they were scared of a dropout happening or they wanted blackpink in the spot as a big name? Did we even know harris was on the lineup as a pseudo headliner before the lineup dropped? Im new to this so genuine question

Tyler has released his two biggest albums since then, bb

yes, and likely getting a big push. It will look smart in April, like many Coachella bookings this place hates on in January.
That said, I’m not mad this is the year I probably need to take one off based on how things are shaping up. We’ll see if that sticks when the poster drops

He just headlined his own festival,if he had anything new music wise he wouldve teased it then and there
