2023 lineup was the perfect example of that mix, with a ton of rare acts for "old heads" and some of the most popular artists in the world. It would be unlikely they would go from booking Chem Bros, Gorillaz, Bjork, Underworld and Jai Paul to totally abandoning acts with that sort of crew.
And, Lana and Tyler have both been around for 10 years at this point. Having a deep catalogue and still appealing to young audiences feels great for a headliner.
The bigger problem with Tyler, IMO, is he self admittedly had a totally dead crowd in 2018. Even if most of that is due to Beyonce, I don't think his popularity has grown that much, and people going just for him seem more likely to go to his own annual festival.
Lana is more exclusive than people on here seem to think, this'll be her first So Cal show in five years.
Doja is a total miss, no exclusivity, played recently, and just blah.
Tyler has released his two biggest albums since then, bb
also why are we pretending that had anything to do with Tyler. It was because the people in the front 15% of the crowd were there for no one but Beyoncé, would’ve happened to literally any act.
Does Tyler headlining suggest that he's dropping a new album? I feel like the timing would be weird otherwise considering he hasn't dropped a full-length project since 2021, you'd think they'd wait until he has something new to offer
He just headlined his own festival,if he had anything new music wise he wouldve teased it then and there
unless he already knew he was headlining Coachella and wanted to roll it out there

That's what I'm thinking. Maybe he's still putting the finishing touches on the album and he knew that he could premiere the new songs at Coachella. His rollouts are super quick - like, a few weeks at the most - so it could realistically drop out of the blue in March or the beginning of April
Mikey confirmed Lana as a headliner, and HITSDD double confirmed it, even LDR herself responded to a fan saying she’s headlining.
Like what.
Mikey confirmed she was playing and made the assumption (or his source maybe did) that it was as a headliner. It could have easily been as RTTD or maybe things changed after he was told and it leaked and they fit someone huge and replaced her. No one knows until we see the poster. You brought up that they had all the copium, but I mean that's more fitting for you.
but I mean, no one would guess that and be right. Clearly he knew what was up there. I guess I missed your zero (0) scoops.
Though FWIW that person scooped Jai Paul as headlining Red Rocks last April, which didn't happen. It's a very weird scoop where the thing that matters - Jai Paul is back and performing - was true, but the actual scoop was not.

He or she is also saying the lineup drops tomorrow. I’m tired.

Doesn’t hitsdd get their leaks like straight from gv? Ldr and tyler confirmed.

part of that context was about coachella but your point stands.

HDD has been wrong before. And while I think they source is GV, gv has been known to use them to spread rumors to gauge reactions.
Coachella built its reputation by having a mix of legends and whatever's popular with the younger crowd at that particular time. I know the festival has been moving further away from that, but there's nothing interesting about these 3 acts in 2024.

I will never forget the group of very young kids waiting for Labrinth during Underworld. Everyone around them was just losing their fucking minds, and they went from annoyed, to curious, to absolutely mental. They were all on their phones at first looking at the wikipedia page of Underworld, and by the end they were jumping around like they were in a bounce house. When the gold light lit up the Mojave during Born Slippy, I swear I saw one of them crying.
There's not a lot of other festivals where you can have this kind of experience. The mix of rare "old heads" clashing with what's hot on TikTok is part of the charm of the festival.
Look complain all you want about Lana-Tyler-Doja, I’m just glad that I can rely on Coachella to not book a headliner trio of exclusively white men in 2024.
Can someone ask the old lady from Egypt what she thinks of Lana Del Rey headlining Coachella so we can know whether the festival has redeemed its reputation as a laughingstock worldwide

Now NMH playing before Lana on the other hand ...
NMH before Lana makes sense on paper in my opinion...just, man, Lana fans suck a lot.

Other than 2013 and 2016, you could rely on that for the last decade

"I love that they are feeding me a sub from 2022, a sub from OSL 2023, and someone who headlines an annual festival as the slop I need to take for $600 because they're not white men"

Anyways.
I'm just saying, everyone can be correct if LDR is in the RTTD spot. I'm not saying she's not playing or not getting prominent placement. There's nothing wrong with RTTD billing.

Doja getting a headliner slot over Lana feels disrespectful. Plus I was hyped about Tyler and Lana headlining smh.

Counterpoint: they were 16 year old kids who copped fentanyl laced molly and would still have been crying with joy if it was Breaking Benjamin up there.

I've seen some wild shit (and literal shit) in crowds, but those '14 fans were insanely god awful for the NMH show.
