We got lucky this year. Bad Bunny personally asked for Gorillaz. Frank Ocean personally asked for Bjork. Rosalia felt like a normal sub booking at the time but absolutely crushed it. So let's see how next year's headliner's feel. But given how successful I assume this year was, I think GV will keep swinging for the fences.
The whole "headliners requesting their openers" thing this year was pretty interesting...also with the whole Frank booting the act who was originally going to be before him (it wasn't SZA like some people have been saying)...really curious how those conversations went down.
I think they’ll do that for the bigger headliners or the harder to get ones to make negotiations easier but for the non-mega huge artists like Dua Lipa or Tyler? Probably not.
I’m going to guess the 90s electronic acts were more of a fluke this year than anything and isn’t going to happen next year. That being said obviously Basement Jaxx is a lock.
I literally need Basement Jaxx now, and will be thoroughly disappointed if they're not on the lineup in January.
THANKS, SHUCK.
Thanks! Any other bands you like that I can get your hopes about to ruin you when the lineup drops in 8 months?
If Coachella is running at $600 per ticket, and people are willing to pay it as evidence by strong ticket sales for both weekends this year, i doubt Coachella would consider changing strategies or reverting back to the prior years
Maybe they can be the surprise act that just shows up on the poster like blink
Man, I want whatever you’re smoking.
Depeche Mode at Coachella would be a dream booking for me, but I just don’t see GV pegging them as outright headliners… admittingly, you and blurfan are probably right and all hope is lost 😞

One other consideration that was unique to this year's headliners is exclusivity. I don't remember the last time when all three headliners were exclusive to Coachella. If you want to see Bad Bunny or Frank Ocean in 2023, the only option is Coachella. I get that BLACKPINK just announced another tour, but at least they're not playing Lolla, Gov Ball, ACL, etc.
So when we throw out names like Tyler the Creator, SZA, or Dua Lipa, it's not that they aren't headliner caliber (because they 100% are), but is Coachella willing to let them share the stage with other competing music festivals? It's an interesting question...
