It's taken 400 pages but there are genuine Radiohead RTTD and Depeche Mode RTTD suggestions. Wow. Can't make this stuff up.
Its the weed. Im totally fine with just The Smile being there cause theyll get to close a stage against a headliner which at this point is favorable. I would be pleasantly surprised if DM actually decide to say goodbye and do one last solo show here as they should.
I literally commented earlier today about how tired it is to equate crowd size with likelihood of headlining. GV/PT do not care. Radiohead will be a headliner if they play again.
Agree with the last sentence, but don't think it's impossible they cross over into that Cure/Depeche Mode territory where it just doesn't make sense to book them anymore. GV has still found ways to work with artists that don't fit Coachella with stuff like JLH/Picnic/Pasadena Daydream, and it wouldn't shock me if that's what they do with Radiohead next time they come around. Honestly, a Daydream style one off anchored by Radiohead is probably a lot better for the average Radiohead fan than Coachella anyway.
Yes. LA is owed a big Radiohead show after all this time. Daydream style at the Rose Bowl would be perfect.

Radiohead's next album/tour cycle they're still guaranteed headliner any festival they play including Coachella, so not currently RTTD. But they'll get there eventually if they stay together and make music past that.
DM is 100% RTTD level right now. They would never get booked for a headliner slot again so something like that seems the only reasonable option to get them on the poster at all (assuming they wouldn't accept a sub).

DM ain’t RTTD. They also aren’t getting booked to headline - they’re well behind Radiohead in that sense - but they’re headliner or bust.

Agree-- DM sold out 4 nights in stadiums in LA a few weeks ago, they're obviously nothing if not a headliner. But they don't strike me as much of a Coachella band in the current incarnation of the festival. Ten years ago, for sure, but this kind of obvious heritage booking doesn't seem to be what PT goes for at the moment. Would be very happy to be proven wrong, though
Sprinkling a couple legacy acts or rare acts along the 2nd line will always be a nice touch imo. Just, keep the line up balanced and it's not a problem giving slots to those acts that won't pull a big crowd. I think the issue with 2023 is that Coachella "missed" on the 2nd line with handful of young artists as well. And by miss, I don't mean to discredit the artists, but they did not pull notable crowds.
Blood Incantation 11.12 Caribou 11.13 Interpol & The Walkmen 11.23 I Am Morbid/Suffocation 11.26 King Diamond 11.29 Sadistic Intent/Massacre 11.30 70K Tons Of Metal 2025 Sick New World 2025 Maryland Deathfest 2025

No, they dont owe us a big show at all. Im fine with them still playing Coachella here and then playing Santa Barbara Bowl a few days beforehand. Theyll never play The Hollywood Bowl again anyway which is the one bummer, but I personally dont mind smaller venues here for them.

Arenas are not stadiums. And they played to fewer people over those 4 nights than the 4 nights they did previously in 2017. Not that it matters cause they couldve done 2 nights at Sofi and sold em out. Or just do The Rose Bowl one final time and people will travel for that show.
Ice Spice and Doja Cat being the "big name" rap headliners really shows how down rap is right now compared to other genres. No wonder Country and Kpop are hitting the highs they are.
Amon Ra with the clutch plays. QOTSA playing My God Is The Sun confirmed.
Holding not called on Puka. Saints make up call completed 4 years late.
Encroachment not called and the personal foul that should have been called in the first half that went against the lions. Not to mention Puka coming out on the field concussed and which should have been 12 men but the refs gave the guy time to get out of the huddle while they “checked” Puka. Don’t want to hear any bit of it. Stafford was gifted a championship and played terrible in the redzone today as he always does. Release the lineup Paul

The whole Sahara-as-a-second-main-stage/Double headliner theory recontextualizes some of the decisions they've made in recent years. The "legacy headliners as subs" for one does not feel sustainable as you can't rely on former headliners taking sub slots. That felt like GV getting lucky or cashing in on some of the reputation they built to be able to convince Gorillaz to sub, Blink to do a surprise set, Bjork to sub.
The reality is GV have cornered themselves into having a very limited pool for what meets the standard for a "modern Coachella headliner". Think of the gap that's left between these newer choices (AAA pop/intl. stars), legacy headliners that pull smaller crowds now (Bjork, LCD), and then your subs (Paramore, Kali Uchis). There's no room in the existing format for a Green Day, Nicki Minaj, (arguably) Doja, or JT - despite these behind headliner names. They just don't fit the bill for what we would consider to be the 'right' headliner. And even though we all know the lineup is in the undercard, we clearly know the headliner is the most visible draw and what defines the lineup for most people.
Reformatting to double-headliner puts the ball back in GV's court by opening up the space for more options in the headliner pool. It gives them a chance to reset and redefine the 'Coachella headliner' and they end up with 1) a more attention grabbing poster/presentation 2) more opportunity to flesh out lanes they have been neglecting (rock, metal, nostalgia) 3) extended flexibility for billing negotiation (not having to only resort to RTTD, subbing as a headliner, or doing a surprise set) 4) a path for hiking the ticket price
I don't think they would implement the format change this year, but I do think this year will serve as a pilot for Sahara's viability as a second main stage.

I think the prevailing sentiment regarding The Rolling Stones around here is way off base. I think they're being lumped in with other 80s/90s "legends" and that their reach among younger people is being wildly underestimated. They are in contention for the biggest band to ever exist, they are one of the longest running continuous institutions in the entertainment industry, even beyond the music industry. And having gone to a stadium show of theirs 5 years ago there is still an incredible amount of people out there into them, and into them to the point that they ALL have merch.
Their time is running out, and at least as of 2019 they still put on a great show. If you think most zoomers can't name a song of theirs then whatever, there is a truly gigantic audience still out there that really wants to see them. Either as a once in a lifetime thing or as a one more/last time thing, or just cause they are one of the biggest names in music history and still have an enormous number of fans.
I'm not saying they'll set crowd records or singlehandedly jack up resale, but them being on the lineup is a huge deal and not just among old women in Egypt or whatever
what rockstars have gotten divorced recently. that’s pretty much a sure fire sign that they’ll be involved in a reunion soon as recent history as shown.
David Byrne had partnerships relationships end in 2004 and 2011. Paul Weller divorced tiwce without doing The Jam.

Your money is better spent at the other Cali shows. Beside age and insurance, Jagger said Desert Trip 2016 was like singing into blow dryer. Plus their booking fee would eat up stuff that would fill out the lineup.
I feel like I’m relatively alone in thinking John Williams wouldn’t work at Coachella at all. Obviously brilliant music but not the right vibe or what they’ve gone for with the orchestral music.
Is booking a 92-year-old in the desert a great idea? Almost as odd as they children's choir that got a midnight Coachella set time - 2012 I think.
Surprised nobody else noticed Everything But The Girl on that mock. Would be their first west coast US show since 1996...and it would be crickets.
I was there - they were outdrawn by Billie Eilish that day. Robert was sidestage mouthing her words.
The Cure also got so-so draw in 2009. They still had single-day tix then and McCartny did 75k while Killers & Cure were very far from that possible in the 40k range on those days. The Depeche and Tool Lolla sets about 13-14 years ago had some underwhelming crowd draws.
JT > Lana, Tyler, and Doja! You would be getting someone that has never performed at a festival and has a track record of amazing shows and a deep catalogue.
He performed at Pilgrimage Fest in 2017.
Hopefully, Timberlake doesn't get bottled like what happened at SARStock 2003 playing before ACDC and the Rolling Stones in Toronto. He did some 2014 fest like VFest and Rock in Rio.
Going back to the mock for a second, I would put Tyler in the RTTD spot rather than Lana.

whoa, a time traveler from page 175! You should tell the Dolphins to win one of their last few games so they don't have to play in sub zero temps in the wild card round!

It's slow and late so I figured I'd bring out an argument I didn't bother to make when it was a topic
