I like how some of y’all’s RTTD thoughts basically boil down to, “They may not pull big crowds and there are more popular names available but I like them so we should still give them special treatment.”
Can someone ask the old lady from Egypt what she thinks of Lana Del Rey headlining Coachella so we can know whether the festival has redeemed its reputation as a laughingstock worldwide
As mentioned on previous pages, nobody attends these legacy acts outside of the people on this board and the Reddit. They get severely out pulled by djs and don’t move tickets. I think they have an important part at Coachella to keep it close to roots, but saying Radiohead will never except a sub headliner” just means they will never be back. They need to move tickets
I cannot believe we are seriously debating whether Radiohead would headline. The lineup wait has made people snap. There is no universe where Coachella does not book Radiohead if available, and no universe where they do anything other than headline. Potentially share a headliner if the festival moves in that direction.
And FWIW, I don't remember Radiohead's 2017 WK2 crowd being small whatsoever.
I think the ‘Radiohead won’t headline’ argument is being misconstrued. I don’t think anyone is saying Radiohead aren’t headliners but not the type of headliners Coachella appears to be pivoting towards the last two years. Rare and exclusive acts or huge stadium filling acts appears to be the trend lately. This year could change things based on these rumors but everyone keeps saying Doja or Lana are lame duck headliners because they aren’t at the level of prior headliners like a Bad Bunny so there’s that. Someone could of course start spouting off Spotify streaming numbers again but then carefully leave those out when discussing someone like Radiohead because of ‘legacy’.
I think the prevailing sentiment regarding The Rolling Stones around here is way off base. I think they're being lumped in with other 80s/90s "legends" and that their reach among younger people is being wildly underestimated. They are in contention for the biggest band to ever exist, they are one of the longest running continuous institutions in the entertainment industry, even beyond the music industry. And having gone to a stadium show of theirs 5 years ago there is still an incredible amount of people out there into them, and into them to the point that they ALL have merch.
Their time is running out, and at least as of 2019 they still put on a great show. If you think most zoomers can't name a song of theirs then whatever, there is a truly gigantic audience still out there that really wants to see them. Either as a once in a lifetime thing or as a one more/last time thing, or just cause they are one of the biggest names in music history and still have an enormous number of fans.
I'm not saying they'll set crowd records or singlehandedly jack up resale, but them being on the lineup is a huge deal and not just among old women in Egypt or whatever
Good rep. Have to sell $300 dinners in the Rose Garden and $6,000 hotel packages somehow, and Zoomers want the feeling they're seeing something rare/classic. Stones are absolutely the best headliner they can get this cycle if Taylor is off the board between coverage, getting folks back to Coachella who haven't been in a while + getting first timers out, another example of The Coachella Mystique, etc. and it doesn't matter if 70% of the audience has never heard "Miss You" before
