can we talk a little about this please? what's happened, what's changed? i think for me it started when i heard about bad bunny nosebleeds going for like $500. then the eras tour with resale going for $1000+. what the fuck is going on here
Since I'm seeing Brent Faiyaz brought up here - I don't know anything about him except he recently canceled (okay, "postponed") two sold out LA shows, hours before showtime. Zero explanation/apology to fans. Seems like a real solid dude
Flakiness is a trait of great R&B artists. Brent Faiyaz stock just keeps rising.
i haven't heard anything from him - maybe he's incredible - but damn, people just like to be abused huh

Last decade festivals were cool. This decade being a Stan for one artist is cool. Plus post pandemic FOMO
For those of us who are fans of your work, it’s an unexpected thing to see you all in the same room promoting this film. I have to ask, does it open up any sense that something more might come of this reunion?
Weymouth: We’re just savoring the moment. We’re so happy that it’s resulted in this wonderful thing that’s lasted 40 years. And we’re not really looking too far into the future. We might be standing on the corner and a bus will knock us down. We’re super glad we’re alive. We’re all four here to enjoy this moment.
Harrison: There’s no question, though, that it revives the joy we had together. I think for each one of us, watching the film, we feel the joy—not just the four of us, but everybody that was onstage, and the crew. It’s certainly tugging on the heartstrings of how much I loved everybody.
Weymouth: I love you, too, Jerry.
Byrne: I remember, not too many years ago, being on tour with St. Vincent, and Carrie Brownstein was traveling on the bus with us sometimes. And at one point she had a phone video, and she said, “This is a high school in Seattle, and this is their music project.” The music class and the theater class did Stop Making Sense from beginning to end. The whole thing. I didn’t watch the whole thing, but I was like, oh my god.

Also, a whole generation of inexperienced concert goers that came out of the pandemic thinking these prices are normal. Then you have LN and AEG taking advantage then that's where we're at.

The prices for the Travis Sofi shows made me give up on the current market. It's festival or bust, in terms of bang for your buck as a consumer, if you want to see a big artist. Mid tier artists are charging what major artists used to charge. The most I've ever paid for a regular concert is $150 before fees, I refuse to go above that unless it's like.. a once in a lifetime type of show, or a RARE artist that never plays, or a legacy artist who may be on their last shows ever.

This what happens when Coachella is the new KIIS FM Jingle Ball. Talking about acts headlining who never been on a big stage just cause they’re popular
Luckily they dont bill according to spotify followers.

The other thing now that Olivia stans are griping over is that they know they're gonna get maybe 90 mins of a show and feel thats not worth the cost when Taylor gave them 3 1/2 hour for half the price of a prime seat. Their brains are broken because of it and nothing will be worth their time and money now so they hate this.
There were people arguing a couple weeks ago she isn’t big enough to sub lol.
Tbf, a couple of weeks ago was before her new album. Not that there was a significant chance of it flopping but it's definitely set in stone now.
Even without the new album her debut went 4x platinum with 4 top 10 hits and the debut single from her new album had hit 1 on the charts. Just with that alone there was never a chance of her being lower than sub.
How many people would buy tickets/flights/lodging etc just because Olivia rodrigo is a headliner? Or dua lipa or sza for that matter? Do any of them have great reputations as live performers? Are any of them going to tour heavily in 2024?
Last year, each headliner had an international fanbase that would go through the logistical excursion to attend the fest. Black pink only played 2-3 dates in 3 cities outside of Coachella this year. I don’t believe bad bunny played a single date beside Coachella in 2023. Frank Oceans first and only appearance in 6-7 years. Each of these artists have a reputation for knockout live performances. They also have a bit more experience and material under their belt.
Olivia Rodrigo and dua lipa have had mixed reviews live. I’ve heard nothing good about sza live. I don’t think that any of these artists fanbases will make the trek to the desert just to see them. They all have 2 albums out. They’re in the midst of extensive US tours, not particularly exclusive signings. There are bigger artists with heavier legacies and stronger reputations, just because these artists are having a hot moment this year.
On top of the fact that they’re just boring names as headliners. Another American radio pop star whos core demographic is young girls (sza perhaps breaks this mold a bit).
I don’t understand the desire for this type of lineup or lack of imagination.

Drop Nineteens pushed back their reunion tour to spring with with an April LA date at the Belasco (Goldenvoice venue). They also specifically announced an undisclosed festival appearance. Smells like Coachella to me.

Would love this, but the dates don't really make sense for it. I don't see them doing Weekend 1 and then going back east during the gap before Weekend 2 and then come back west.
