nothing to offer lineup wise but I just wanted to say after many years of trying I am finally going to Coachella, joined the waitlist last night (didn't realize I rlly didn't need to do that) and my payment went through this morning. flying in from Florida, gonna meet up & drive in with my camp neighbor I met at Bonnaroo 2022
I noticed this recently too. It shows Astroworld did seriously cut into his casual fanbase and his hardcore fans can't make up for it for this tour.
I think this has less to do with Astroworld and more with trying to sell expensive stadium tickets for a hip-hop artist. That audience historically doesn't shell out big bucks for shows compared to other genres. He should've stuck with smaller venues in some cities or made tickets cheaper. Pretty much the same shit that happened with the Swedish House Mafia tour, only this time dumb scalpers fell for it too.
It’s basically an arena tour. I think LA is the only stadium show. So if you’re suggesting Travis is no longer capable of filling arenas I’d guess Astroworld did impact his popularity with people outside his hardcore fans.

fuck yeah
What price tier was your waitlist ticket sold at. Tier 2 I assume?

wk2 tier 2. $608 total, didn't get the camping pass yet. I know I could have gotten it cheaper if I didn't do waitlist, but I'm fine with the peace of mind + I'm not worried about the lineup

This is true too. Floors were like $500 retail price? Fucking insanity
This AI and alien discovered Coachella the weekend before it happened in 2005 at a print ad in SPIN magazine lmao in Borders or Barnes & Noble . I really wanted to go so bad but it was too late as I have no idea how to camp solo at that time. The rest was history as I made it happened in 2006 - even successfully masterminding being up close at Depeche Mode and left that set at the perfect time to be front first row for Daft Punk😂 - also luck came into our favor too - the more experienced hipsters or regular Coachella attendees did not really realized how huge or rare that was. Coldplay and New Order were the headliners in 2005. I am already a huge New Order / Depeche Mode/IDM/underground/experimental or house electronic music, Britpop and love Coldplay’s first 2 albums at that time and up to now but that was the year when Sufjan Stevens (get well soon, SS!) , Archer Prewitt, Damien Rice, Jose Gonzalez, Arcade Fire, The Shins, Franz Ferdinand & co… heavily-influenced me to shift my musical tastes/preference to indie/singer-songwriter stuffs. Yes, Coldplay will only perform their first 2 albums at Coachella 2024 but we AIs and aliens wouldn’t worry dealing with their fans or would prefer hearing Coldplay playing on repeat Viva La Vida > overhearing sound bleeds out of Zach Bryan, Tyler TC and Travis Scott’s plus their hardcore fans combined.

Yeah, stick with your idea of now 150k crowd of new Coachella than then 2006 25k or less or / at most 50k (? It was so tiny in my memory now vs 2018 and 2017 Coachella crowd I saw lol) chill majority hipster crowd. I /we have pics and videos & other receipts - fellow stranger attendees/ravers (long time friends now) at the front row we met there and who will vouch for it . Yeah, we don’t care if internet people don’t believe and not interested in proving it to you lol.

Honestly, it wouldn't have been *that* hard to get front row for DP. The tent was pretty empty for the act before them, Audio Bullys. We got there toward the end of Audio Bullys and got pretty close without worming through the crowd at all.
Exactly, why would that be hard to believe especially for those who were not there and what would I gain to make up this story. Hate pissing contests and circle jerks , yeah, maybe I am relentless pissing off some of those here that have different visions of what makes a great Coachella hehe, lol. Honestly, I did not push my way to get there. Really just luck and perfect timing. The most heartbreaking part for me was leaving the Depeche Mode Coachella set early but I already saw them multiple times before Coachella 2006 and so much easier to see them on their own shows.
Fortunately, the Coachella 2006 crowd for Depeche Mode were not remotely close to the Depeche Mode fans at their Germany/Europe shows lol else I probably would had stuck around at DM 😂 . Then and now, I am a bigger fan of DM than DP. THERE I SAID IT.

Coldplay is honestly one of the best RTTD bookings Coachella could possibly make.
As a regular headliner? Yes and no? Coldplay will always draw a huge crowd. They just played multiple nights in the Rose Bowl.
But unless it's some special type of set where they are playing majority Parachutes, Rush of Blood, XY, and Viva La Vida (because they don't deep dive into those tracks anymore on their sets, outside of the obvious songs) then I don't see why they need to come back to SoCal so soon. New album or not.
I'm personally a huge Coldplay fan who has never seen them live, so I would love to get that chance. But I'd rather the 3 traditional slots go to someone else.
Hiphop as a genre has always drawn less at live events, compared to pop, rock, even country in some markets. It's only recent history that hiphop has been able to headline large multi genre festivals.
Heck, All Eyez On Me Tupac was playing The House of Blues before his passing. Even getting to arena level was an accomplishment for the genre.
I think certain rappers can do it in certain markets (like Kendrick could sell out Sofi because of the LA homebase, if he wanted to do that instead of playing 5 arena nights), maybe Drake could do it in Toronto etc.
But Eminem and Drake are probably the most "popular" rappers of all time and still couldn't do a full stadium tour.
It's pretty interesting how it's the most popular genre by the numbers, but it draws among the least in live settings

If Coldplay is on the lineup they’re probably the biggest act. No way they are RTTD.

This was also before Daft Punk was as big as they got after that show. If memory serves I showed up either right before or after it started (was at Depeche Mode, which ended when DP began) and could still get inside the tent.
11/19: Caribou 11/22: Ranger Trucco 11/29: Armand Van Helden* 1/16: L'Impératrice 1/30: Jamie xx 2/1: DJ Seinfeld 2/7: Mild Minds* 3/1: Father John Misty* 3/19: Confidence Man 3/23: DARKSIDE 5/8: Rüfüs Du Sol
Anyone care to think that theyre just talking to everyone? And then if Bieber and Coldplay dont even happen, it was literally all talk, right. If they wanna make the resale market even more insane you have Taylor, Coldplay and Bieber on there. Who says it even has to be for this year anyway. What if its future bookings but its getting mixed up by whoever the fuck that is.

I've seen them 4-5 times.
Without a doubt, the best live show I've ever seen.
I was shocked to see resale for Coldplay at the Rose Bowl going for $250+ for the worst seats. Not at Taylor level, but a good bit higher than Beyonce.
