Remember when every music publication was trying to convince you that A Brief Inquiry etc. was the AOTY? I hate to be the person who goes "oh I never liked them to begin with" in general, but I feel like a lot of people could see how shallow that album is and could see he was a complete dumbass *at best*
The guy did a Nazi salute onstage while singing the line, "Thank you, Kanye, very much."
Fuck him.
I’m not one to jump to celebrities’ defenses here- and yes I’m a fan of the band very much- but literally A- you got the quote wrong and B- the line, which yes is the Donald trump tweet about Kanye, is used in a song directly about how awful trump is/was. Yes the dude is rough around the edges but I genuinely doubt he’s like the monster some people seem to make him out to be lol.
Edit- obvs he shouldn’t be doing the salute nor should he be kissing fans cuz that’s just strange. I just don’t think he is as awful and scumbag as most have been saying he is lol. Probably a bit of a egotistical person? Sure but a ‘scum of the earth’ typa person? Not *exactly* lol
If a gesture or lyric requires an explanation as to why people shouldn't be offended by it, it probably wasn't a good idea in the first place. There are ways to be provocative without leaning into anything that might be perceived as racist, homophobic, Islamophobic, antisemitic, etc. This particular incident isn't as easily discernible as use of a particular word by a lot of rappers, because there would be an obvious difference between Jay-Z using the word and Eminem using that same word and the nuanced difference would be obvious. But we don't know what's in Matty Healy's heart, just like we didn't know what Kanye and Dave Chappelle thought until they told us.
Bon Iver selling out TD is what makes me think hes a headliner if he plays
Them headlining small/mid-size fests (Hinterland, Pitchfork, Beach Road etc) and subbing basically every giant fest they play (Coachella, Bonnaroo) is what makes me think it.
Lord Huron closing blue might get me there if there's enough else during the day, they're the only active Americana band I really love
Would Boston Calling want to book an artist that had just headlined In Between Days nine months earlier? It seems a little too "follow the leader" for the festival which is the actual leader in the Boston market.
Not if they have a new album! Also I don't think they care that much about what a much smaller festival does, especially if it's not the BC headliner

i always though matty was annoying as fuck but yea after the recent bullshit w the hitler salute, racist jokes on tour, his comments on ice spice, him wearing red scare podcast merch(super transphobic and alt right), and nsfl:
Uh...maybe the people who streamed "Take Me To Church" 2 billion, 82 million times on Spotify care about Hozier? (Skinny Love tops the list of Bon Iver plays on the platform at 560 million.)
Similarly, Hozier has 26+ million monthly listeners while Bon Iver has 13+ million.
Factor in the large number of Irish expats living the Boston area who make this an exceptionally strong city for him, and the fact that Hozier sold around 11K tickets to three Boston shows this year in a combined 10 minutes, and he'd be booked over Bon Iver, there's no doubt about it.

lord huron is all but guaranteed a blue stage closing slot unless they take a year off

Even outside of Boston I'd say they are probably equal in terms of festival billing. In Boston I'd say Hoizer but it's honestly pretty equal.
If were talking popularity then yea Hoizer destroys Bonnie

As I am seeing them twice in a week's span (In Between Days and Iron Blossom (which also includes Hozier) festivals), I am partial to them taking a year off
i honestly think they’ll stick to rock and americana. maybe a country act or two but they never sold super well when they had more electronic focused lineups/headliners
It would be cool if the 1975 doesn’t play because their music is really bad
The interesting thing about them is that, since the beginning, they've adopted all of the trappings of a rock band without playing rock and roll. Four white guys who play guitar, bass, drums, and keyboards and write their own songs AND a name that sounds like a rock band, both in terms of the format (The ______) and which references a year in which rock and roll was the dominant form of popular music on the radio and sales charts (although a lot of that was what was then called soft rock).
Yet, there's nothing rock and roll about them at all.
When I checked out a couple of songs by The Aces online before Boston Calling, it was the same formula. They've got a very rock band sounding name and play their own instruments, but they don't play rock and roll.

tbf LiveNation very much seems to be focusing the majority of their small festivals on this demographic, with the notable exception of Gov Ball, so not a bad assumption
I will say that this year was the first year I noticed public buzz and excitement in the general populace about going to the festival (I wasn't in the country when last year's happened though). Friend who works at a cafe said that tons of people in the morning had wristbands and was empty in the afternoon once the fest started

Sure, he could headline, but he wouldn't headline over Hozier on the same day.
Personally, I'm happiest when my favorites are closing Blue. So many people who just go for the "major event" of it all stick to the Green/Red tandem all day and, as a result, it's fairly easy to get close to the stage at Blue, unless you're one of those people who absolutely needs to be right in the middle with a full on view of the entire stage. I rarely ever see the drummer and keyboardist during a Blue closing set, because I'm far enough over to the side and close enough to the stage that I can't see the entire stage.
