A few thoughts about the potential headliner names getting thrown around so far in this thread:
Wouldn't be surprised at all about RHCP or Arctic Monkeys.
I think Rage is not going to come back and tour at all, at least not for a while, but if they do then i suppose i wouldn't be shocked if we booked them again.
I'd love to see Zach Bryan but he VERY vocally hates Ticketmaster/Livenation so I don't think that is in the cards at all.
Feels like Mumford & Sons will be back with a new album by then, wouldn't be shocked to see them make a return.
Someone said it was a long shot, but i could totally see The Cure doing a festival headline run next year as a victory lap after how well their tour sold this year.
The 1975 could totally headline with how fast the TD Garden show sold out, and i really think the "Healy is a dirtbag" stuff won't have a material impact on bookings (here or really anywhere else) unless something worse/more substantiated comes out... but I also think timing-wise next spring they may be back in album mode. They're doing a second lap through US arenas this fall after selling out a US tour last fall. They've been touring nonstop since the album came out almost a year ago, so I really don't think they'll still be touring next spring.

If there's a new Cure album in the works, which seems likely from all of the new material they performed on tour, a 2024 run seems likely. Maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part, but I can't imagine that their return to the area would be at the exact same venue they played the previous year. It's got to be Boston Calling, TD Garden, or (with a strong #2) Fenway.

Still keeping my expectations very low but the fact that C3 booked the Cure for ACL makes me think there's a sliver of a possiblity. But I still think for a similar/contemporaneous headliner LN will want to get U2 to do some of their festivals after their vegas residency wraps up

I think U2 is actually too big to play this festival. they did 2 nights at the Garden in 2018, only a year after playing Gillette in 2017... i don't remember but i'd be shocked if all 3 of those shows didn't sell out quickly. (And prior to that they did FOUR shows at the Garden in 2015.) They haven't been around here in 5+ years, i feel like if they tour in 2024 they'd be doing 1 if not 2 Fenway or Gillette shows.
I guess you could argue that Metallica is doing 2 Gillette shows next year and just played BC last year, but there are still a lot of face value tickets available on ticketmaster right now for those shows. i don't think they're nearly as popular as U2 is around here.

Possibly, I hope so myself tbh (not a fan). I'd consider them Metallica or Eminem level popular at first thought but then again they did have the highest grossing tour ever until recently. Though I also think their stock has fallen a ton over the past decade

He's done a bunch of c3/LN fests this year and has said that festivals are the one things he can't control as far as ownership and ticket sales go so it's still possible imo
A tip of the cap to The Strokes, who go out of their way to make it up to the fans in a concert market when they're forced to cancel a show at the last minute.
I would actually take the train down and stay overnight in a hotel if they played there. The same for Portland, ME.
I've got such a short bucket list of artists I've never seen that I *really* want to see, at least among artists that are still actively touring: The Cure, The Strokes, Wednesday
Based upon who's got new albums coming out, who Boston Calling booked this year, the "top two set apart on the poster" thing, a strong emphasis upon women in the top six, and reunion murmurs, these are the top six I now expect to see on the poster as the daily Green/Red closing combo.
I also predict a scheduling conflict on par with what happened on Sunday this year, with a really great blue stage closer overlapping with both Rodrigo and Crow, both of whom I'd like to see, but not as much as I'll want to see whomever's playing on Blue.

how many times do we need to tell you Brandi Carlile isn’t a headliner

Also talking heads lol
She headlined TD Garden. That's the bar that an artist needs to clear to be considered a potential Boston Calling headliner.
Talking Heads are certainly giving off reunion vibes lately. There's a reissue of Stop Making Sense heading into movie theaters next month and the band members are participating in a related panel discussion.
All of us take for granted that there as aspects to our jobs and careers we don't enjoy, including co-workers we dislike, but we appreciate the paychecks so we deal with it. Don't underestimate the lure of a reunion tour to musicians in their 60's - 70's who have an opportunity to ensure that not only their children, but also their grandchildren, will be set for life with the money generated by that tour. After all, the market for vinyl reissues and CDs is modest at best; it's live performance that creates the revenue, at least for artists touring well-above the club/small ballroom level.
I agree Talking Heads look more likely to reunite than ever, but it's really only gone from 0% to 25% in my book. But David publicly admitted/regretted he was a prick at the end, so that's a great start!
If anything I'd predict a Phish-esque MSG/Forum run that sells out instantly. I can't see them reuniting to play festivals (except Coachella obviously).

there is no set “TD Garden” precedence, you made that up. The Trans-Siberian orchestra plays TD Garden every year, surely they have to be headlining Boston Calling next year? Paramore has never played TD Garden, but they headlined last year

It's not the only criteria, but headlining NBA arenas suggests that an artist is big enough to headline Boston Calling (if, of course, they fall into the genres focused upon at the festival. Neither Trans-Siberian Orchestra nor Disney On Ice will be headlining anytime soon).
So, they're willing to be #2 to RHCP in front of 40K in a ballpark, but not in front of 50K and 2nd to an even bigger name than RCHP?
there are a lot of bands that have opened for stadium acts that wouldn’t take a sub spot. I also don’t think Boston Calling would drop like 2.5M on TH and then another mill on The Strokes.
