These Taylor numbers are nuts. I know she's massive, but what makes her THIS massive? Not in a bad way, genuinely curious 🤔
Anyways, Coachella should absolutely be doing everything they can to book her. Would be arguably their biggest booking with Beyonce being the other.
But if you get everyone and your mother to sign up for tickets just to get yourself a couple codes this is the result. So its pretty skewed. If the average person had 5 sign ups its really like 6 million who wanted to go and not the entire country. Its crazy any way you look at it. But if resellers have hundreds of accounts to try for tickets how is that actual people trying. If they literally limited it to one signup per household than thats another story.
The odds are really good since she signed with AEG for this whole tour. Dont see how money is even an issue at all if grossing almost $2 billion when this is done has an effect on a festival offer. They got Bad Bunny and he was grossing similar to Taylor on his stadium dates. Harry Styles just ended his tour and he made over $600 million and Coach got him. It really aint about the bucks.
Did have a thought about doing all 3 weekends since she is doing 3 shows in almost every city. Why not Indio too lol.
Whether 2024 or 2025, I think she'll likely play Coachella eventually as a way to stay "on top" with this Eras cycle. It feels like she's at her peak; will be interesting to see where she goes from here.
Someone on Reddit made a good observation about Taylor's tour that makes her look unlikely.
Take a look at the other dates and you'll notice that when she's leaving one region there's a 2-3 month gap until the next one starts.
August 27th in Mexico and then the next date is in November.
November 26th in Brazil and then the next date is in February.
March 9th in Singapore and then the next date is in May.
August in the UK and then the next date is in November.
I think it would be great for Coachella to get her, but I don't think the dates signify anything.
Taylor doing Coachella between these dates just doesn't seem likely given this, she's probably just taking breaks from her massive tour.
Well her voice finally started to give last night according to a friend that went. Guess we'll see. Could just use Stagecoach to promote self titled though.

she doesn't need to use anything to promote anything

a ton of 25 to 35-year-old women working white-collar corporate jobs with a lot of disposable income + upper class families with a lot of disposable income

She’d probably get more promo from a single tweet than a Stagecoach performance.
I, too, thought she was fizzling out after Lover/Reputation didn't "hit" relatively speaking.
I know folklore was a huge success, but yeah I guess a number of elements like the time off, and re recording of her classic albums helped.
Thinking about it, she really might be the biggest pop star post MJ. Beyonce is the only other contender. I'd only give B the edge because she's been in her position for much longer.

I'd put Adele over Beyoncé.
Ed Sharron (lol) > BTS > Beyonce > Taylor > Bad Bunny > Adele > Drake

Also, who's the biggest rock band in the world rn? From my U.S POV it's imagine dragons but I was pretty surprised to see how popular Oasis was when I was in Asia so maybe them? It also could be Metallica idk

I mean Tool still keeps selling out their tours and have released one album in 17 years. Metallica is currently selling out stadiums. Rhcp did their tour last year and it did well. U2 still has their draw and would prob sell out a stadium tour if they did Achtung outside of the Sphere. Do you classify Coldplay as rock? Cause thats essentially the gold standard.

Like, rock band still active? Probably The Rolling Stones but for a more current band, I’d say Coldplay.

Was already a massive star pre pandemic. Remember everyone feeling bad for her during the Kanye interruption? Then she takes a long break performing at the most opportune time, over the pandemic, where everyone stayed inside just listening to music. During this whole time, she is just dropping record after record of new and re-recorded material. This only blew her fanbase up even more by bringing in Gen Z into the fold. And those millennial's who were long time fans now are at the age with disposable money. She literally changed her style yet her fans never left her side. Then that change in style brought even more fans from the indie scene into her fanbase that never liked her pop style. The demand just kept getting higher and higher.
I think there's a legitimate case to be made that she's the biggest pop star since MJ.
I agree with a lot of this but I’d argue her star was waning a bit circa Lover - Reputation was a critical dud compared to the last few albums and then Lover didn’t produce any number one singles (though “Me!” came close, I think it’s more telling “Cruel Summer” has now peaked at #4 four years later). Her savvy work during the pandemic with the style shift and the re recorded albums really, really paid off.
Yeah, I aways thought Cruel Summer was a single.. but it wasn't lol.
If we’re going by nebulously defined “cultural impact” then Morgan Wallen is the biggest musician in America right now.
not like he’s that far off anyway
Yeah exactly. I don’t think Adele ushered in a wave of massively popular soul revival, Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran didn’t repopularize indie folk, but Morgan Wallen getting massively popular did majorly boost up other country songs up to the top 10 and his popularity is almost certainly inspiring the wave of astroturfed rightwing country music we’re seeing! But all 4 remain wildly popular and successful all the same.

ok but 30 kinda flopped and I don't think people care about Adele as much anymore. you can only do so many ballads before people are gonna get bored. I didn't say Adele isn't popular, she's just not as popular as Beyonce.

30 and Renaissance’s first two singles went #1 and #5/#6, 30 is 3x platinum currently and Renaissance is 1x. I don’t think 30 is a good album but it absolutely did not flop lol.

it’s relative but 3x platinum isn’t rly good for Adele and that albums already faded into obscurity. It’s a big different than comparing to Ren 30 years and 10+ albums into beyonces career
