if you've followed this festival for last 10+ years and are still complaining about repeat artists, that's a "you" problem at this point.
sure, an annual wholly unique roster would be great but its clearly not NFF's approach and in my opinion has yet to affect quality of festival itself, so maybe we shouldnt wake up on MWF or TF in the spring expecting sky to be green.
I hope Silk Road shows up with RG. They were amazing.
I might be alone in this but I could see her as the Saturday headliner. She has so many projects she has been involved in she has the gravitas to hold attention and get collaborators.

60% repeat acts is a higher percentage than in previous years though. 40% acts having played within the last 2 years is also a higher percentage than usual.
That said, pointing these things out isn’t complaining. I really see no need to complain about the lineup because if it’s not to my taste come June, it’s not hard at all to pass the tickets on to someone else who will appreciate it more. And any personal concern when it comes to value prop offered by the festival has almost nothing to do with the festival lineup and price of admission itself (the value is always going to be there), and more to do with the costs of everything else associated with a weekend in Newport.
My only complaint is that I love using the slow drip announcement schedule to discover new music and I feel like that’s been missing so far this year.

literally zero chance she headlines. i dont think shed even close the quad. i'll take that back, didn't remember that she closed the quad last time she was there. either the same spot or like mid-day on the fort.

Big Thief announced as headliner at Project Pabst in Portland, Oregon on Sunday July 28th. That probably takes them out of the running for Saturday so if they're playing a full band set I would expect them to headline or pre-headline Friday with Adrianne's solo set coming earlier in the day.
Jeff Rosenstock and Soccer Mommy also playing Project Pabst on Sunday - I know they've both been mentioned in here.
Upcoming Shows: August 7: Green Day/Smashing Pumpkins/Rancid/The Linda Lindas August 30: Waxahatchee/Snail Mail/Tim Heidecker September 17: Pearl Jam/Glen Hansard September 24: Idles/English Teacher

It’s hard to deny that schedule. Seems way to thought for him to not play, but I’m ready to be hurt. Feels like some pop ins and maybe a pop up? Are in play. A busker set would be crazy, but a Sierra pop in, a Molly pop in and whoever else they got lined up who’s an adjacent act would be sweet.
i don't think he gets his own set - pretty sure they've never had someone headline in back to back years. but yeah, wouldn't be surprised to see him pop up with other people. Molly Tuttle seems really likely based on her tour schedule so I could see him showing up to jam with her.
Shoot an MJ Lenderman Thursday night pre show right into my veins
or let him play the festival itself. if they can do Caamp and whatever that Caamp guy's solo project is that sounds exactly like Caamp in the same year, surely we can get sets from both Wednesday and MJ Lenderman

For sure, if given the choice, I’d rather see him in the blues cafe, a tight quarters loud show seems like a better fit for my taste, but I’ll take him where I can get him.

Why not both?
To my understanding acts don’t get their own aftershow and fest set in the same year, right? Looking at the last couple years, it looks like all headliners of the after shows did not have fest sets.

But I love where your heads at
Maybe they've changed the formula without my noticing but off the top of my head Deer Tick, Glorietta, Jenny Lewis + Hamilton & Rostam (both opening for Father John Misty), Leon Bridges (opening for Deer Tick) have all had fest sets followed by late night sets in the years I've been attending.

Yeah seems like they’re going a different direction. Maybe they will switch back. Acts with sets showed up as “friends” but the shows were lead by people without fest sets
