A little off topic so I apologize but does anyone know if Maggie Rodgers will add more US headlining dates before she opens for Cold Play?
She has been a slow burn for me over the years of catching her at folk and would love to see a full show of hers.
Given that she just announced a new run of dates in October, she probably has nothing more scheduled in between her summer dates and Europe Coldplay dates.
The newly announced dates start with a week of in person box office only sales...followed by the usual online Live Nation / Chase / other sponsored online presales. It's a bold strategy, Cotton. Let's see how it plays out.

I’m not really sure how popular she is, but can she even sell these arenas out…? Or will she need a supporting cast of openers? I know it’s only FB, but her tour post has a paltry 200 likes…

It is, hoping to catch a North East show this spring or fall.

I agree! I was surprised to see sheds and arenas on her tour. I pictured MGM Fenway or Salt Shed type venues! I’m off of work next week so I might try for the Boston box office only show at PRC.

honestly the rolling lineup just sucks. like, Samm Henshaw actually seems decent and is a fine lower line act, but rolling out weeks and weeks of this just kills it. the thing sells out anyway, just sell all your tickets and drop the whole lineup a month later if you want.

I think I agree and that the rolling lineup has kind of lost a lot of the fun and anticipation. If the tickets are all sold anyway you can just release the lineup.
And if they want to keep it going with the daily chats or discussions or whatever of each individual artist, while giving time for fans or attendees to look into them, they can keep doing a sort of "rolling lineup introduction" or whatever. to or three days post about one of the artists on the lineup and their charity and some recommended tunes or whatever. Can keep the regular engagement and discussion going but also kind of move away from the method of release. Unless they are still claiming that part of the rolling lineup is contract clause things.

I think for me something that would help the rolling lineup is if they started with 3 days a week and released from the bottom to the top. Atleast that way there is some kind of understanding as to what tier of act we should expect. To get a random mixture of low level, mid level and subs is hard to gauge expectations.
I swear this thread is the same thing every year, people complaining about the lineup as it rolls out, then bigger artists get announced, then people see the schedule and are like omg so many conflicts, then they go and have an amazing time.

no i complain then i go and see the three acts that i like

Agreed. And while they're at it, alternate the days of the bigger artists, because right now it's looking like Friday has the strongest mid-tier, Saturday higher and Sunday lower.
Upcoming Shows: August 7: Green Day/Smashing Pumpkins/Rancid/The Linda Lindas August 30: Waxahatchee/Snail Mail/Tim Heidecker September 17: Pearl Jam/Glen Hansard September 24: Idles/English Teacher

It's funny to me that I'm seeing the most public disappointment on the FB page of any announcement. It's a little surprising since I dig them so far, but I guess NFF needs to release a larger name to regenerate enthusiasm.

If I had to guess it’s really the disappointment of the last 10 announcements being taken out on yet another low level barely heard of act. They really need to ramp up some interest. As I say this(I know it’s gonna be head and heart or some bullshit.
But I agree I think this is fine compared to some of the other acts announced recently.

close, it's going to be Old Crow Medicine Show
Call me a honky, but I’ll gladly take old crow with open arms at this point over head and heart. Especially with the probability that Willie Watson will be there

OCMS over H & the H for me too. I really enjoyed their headlining set 10 years ago or so. Only time I have seen them so I’m okay with the repeat.
I’m all for Newport elevating new acts, but Sunday right now has 8 of 9 acts that collectively have 1.2 million monthly streams on Spotify. (And November Ultra is responsible for 1/3 of those.) Sierra Ferrell bumps it up with 2.7 million monthly listeners… but we’re halfway through Sunday’s announcements with a collective 4 million monthly Spotify listeners.
To put that in perspective, Mt. Joy has 6.9 and Caamp has 4.9.
Note: I’m really happy Newport exposed me to Frikko. Now for some more meat on the good bones.

Number of monthly listeners of bands that members of Mighty Poplar are in (24.5k):
-Billy Strings (1.5 million) -Watchouse (formerly Mandolin Orange) 2.9 million -Punch Brothers (only 224k??? Side note, Chris Thile as a solo artist and Nickel Creek both have more) -Leftover Salmon (196k)
I certainly would have thought both Punch Brothers and Billy Strings were bigger than Watchouse, and that Billy Strings would be bigger than CAAMP and Sierra Ferrell. Clearly I don't know what's popular.

nah Strings is a jamband guy, his audience isn't necessarily listening to him on Spotify. he's way bigger than all of these acts. Spotify is a decent way to take an artist's temperature, but it's not perfect
