What’s the history of Jazz and Folk having crossover artists?
Quite often a single crossover act. In the past, Jon Batiste and Blake Mills come to mind. (Batiste was even a crossover headliner.) But I believe there have also been a few years with no crossover.

On Christian McBride's site, it has NFF and NJF listed, but it has the dates for Jazz listed twice. Do you think we'll see a surprise pop-up? Maybe supporting Rhiannon Giddens, as they've collabed before?
I would love a bigger connection between the festivals with shows at the small venues in town during the week between.
That might sound nice. But they’re not keeping artists in town for an extended period, while paying them pennies.
I think smaller acts would be game. Significant artists have stayed before and helped with Jazz Camp at Salve. There are great ensembles and one offs that could be cool even if it is more low key than Pickens or Blues.
I’m beginning to hold out hope that Vampire Weekend might actually be playing on Sunday with their little three day gap after 7/27 in Chicago.
My friends bust my chops all the time because I am unfamiliar with VW. Any good suggestions on an album to start with?
They're all great. I feel like most people say Contra is their best but that's probably my least favorite. For most day to day situations (driving, working, etc), Modern Vampires of the City is my favorite. If I'm at the beach or hanging out with friends, the self titled album is perfect.
Upcoming Shows: August 7: Green Day/Smashing Pumpkins/Rancid/The Linda Lindas August 30: Waxahatchee/Snail Mail/Tim Heidecker September 17: Pearl Jam/Glen Hansard September 24: Idles/English Teacher

You like Paul Simon indie? Self-titled.
Contra has somewhat similar vibes, but here they're not singing about college.
Modern Vampires if you're feeling an existential crisis.
Father of the Bride if you like how Beyonce tried to take on country. The tour was supposed to be the jammiest, vaguely Grateful Dead-y, but I didn't see it. It's definitely the most different of their albums (and basically an Ezra solo project).
Only God Was Above Us is a bit of all of them, while experimenting with some different sounds. It's only 10 songs, and to me, they're all solid, although some may need to grow on you.
I would say none of the albums are very folky, with maybe FotB coming closest.

Friday at Jazz is just absolutely loaded. Good lord.
i actually think i prefer Saturday - Dinner Party, Terrace Martin, Ghost Note, Acid Jazz is Dead hit for me. But yeah, Friday is stacked with big names.

After seeing NJF released, I wish they'd have thrown us a bone with a bigger name for Sunday.
That said, Mitch Rowland...His voice has that whispery Sufjan Stevens quality, which I'm mixed on, but I kind of dig him upon listening to his first few songs. And he co-wrote a bunch of songs for Harry Styles, who I will begrudgingly admit writes some solid pop. 🤷♀️
It’s odd that I only vaguely listen to and appreciate jazz, but I follow folk music closely, actively listen to folk music almost daily, and have been for almost two decades - yet I know more acts and am excited by more acts on NJF’s Sunday lineup than I am on NFF’s Sunday lineup.
It’s a bit of a shame because I’ve already planned a vacation around Folk Fest, and can’t move it a week later to a vacation around Jazz Fest, so I’m Folk Fest or bust. (If bust though, I may try to add a road trip up to Burlington for that Yoshimi performance.)

I really thought we could get Sleater Kinney one of these years in the Dinosaur Jr. spot given their almost entirely folk family covers album. But it looks like their tour dates almost all but rule them out, even though they’ll be in the northeast a week after Folk Fest.
