Lol this festival has a serious issue with dropouts the last 4 years or so….wonder why?
Your point would be valid if they weren’t always able to get replacements and usually better artists than who were booked originally, in short term notice. There’s clearly a revolving door of artist willing to jump in at a moments notice as well.
I just don’t think artists are as pissed about the pay as you imply. This fest could easily die overnight if artists just refused to play for what they offered. And yet they keep showing up, many of which with a deep history of repeats.

If they’re playing for cheap and can’t find a reasonable priced place to stay in town, I absolutely think that could come into play (which is ultimately pay)
Accommodations , Flights etc are all getting more expensive.

That’s fair, I guess I assume they know the pay before they sign and asses the cost before signing, but could be wrong

Both Mitch and Breeders weren’t on a tour leg for Newport, so I can only assume that is more expensive. Not sure about Ultra
Same goes for Jonathan Richman last year.
Edit** November cancelled her entire tour I believe.
Jay has spoken in the past about needing to book artists outside of their world tours to be able to afford them. (Granted the industry has changed significantly since that quote… but there’s probably still some truth to it.) I’d think that plays a lot into cancellations.
That said, I’m not sure why it matters if you factor in the possibility of a few cancellations, if you bought tickets before you even had a lineup so that you didn’t pay just to see a specific artist, and that they’re almost always replaced by an equivalently popular act. I don’t think anybody is advocating for ticket prices to go up or for capacity to increase. And I’d think we’d all prefer the possibility of a cancellation over booking a less popular lineup with the available funds.

I just got off the Dice waitlist for 1 Friday/Saturday ticket, which I no longer need. But there’s no way for me to decline it. I have to let the clock run out, currently at 4 hours. SO dumb. Looks like they’ve learned nothing from last year.

Accept it and then sell it once transfers open in a week or so.

Yeah that's one of the big complaints i've seen from people on social media.
Apparently there's no way to decline the ticket offer on dice so there are people who are giving up tickets they no longer need. But then if the person on the waitlist also no longer needs it (because they found tickets, because they made other plans by now, etc) they can't decline the offer...they just have to wait for the timer to go down and then it automatically goes to the next person.
Such an oversight. It's delaying people on the waitlist getting tickets and causing frustration.

I had read it’s taken some over a week to sell their 3 Day passes on Dice. I’d worry with that feedback that sellers might find StubHub to be easier or more efficient.
I thought there was an option to remove yourself from the waiting list BEFORE you get the offer….so it looks like people are not being proactive and removing themselves before they get the offer.

Just checked for my Craig’s and slim aftershow waitlist and there is an option to get off the waitlist before they are offered

The fest could certainly be better at reminding people, or informing them that they can do that….

Fair. I never got off the waitlist at all last year, so I didn’t know if it was going to happen this time. Plus, I have a newborn and a toddler, who keep me busy. A Decline button seems an easy enough thing to add rather than putting the onus on us to notify Dice for something that may not even happen.

Absolutely - I don’t see any reason why that can’t be added as well. I don’t even want to look like I’m defending that turd of a platform LOL.
Maybe the move is if you're on the waitlist and come up your transaction automatically gets processed. I'm skeptical that "be a pal and manage your status" would make much difference. This keeps things moving and gives people committed to going a better chance.
The only other time I’ve been on a festival waitlist was for the first year of When We Were Young, before they added 3 more dates to accommodate demand.
In that case, you gave your credit card when signing up for the waitlist. As long as you were still on the waitlist, if a ticket was available when it was your turn you’d be automatically charged and given the ticket. If it was in err, you could return it back to the waitlist and get your money back. Thus opting out would require you to remove your name from the waitlist.
This seems like a more efficient system and I’m not sure why Dice doesn’t do something similar. It’s a little bit of a pain giving your credit card not knowing if it’ll get charged or not (and if it does, if you’ll even be able to find transportation and lodging), but the system allowed you to manage payment info and I’m not sure giving someone 12 hours to claim a ticket makes that much of a difference in transportation and lodging searches.

I’m surprised this isn’t how it’s handled honestly

The waitlist really should be "once available give it to me immediately" and not "heads up that a ticket is available take a day to mull it over." If the waitlist clears then additional tickets are first come, first serve (buy button reappears). So if you're 50/50, keep checking. Waitlist entry should be a commitment.

Well yeah, because right now every Tom, Dick and Harry is joining the waiting list, because…why not? LOL.
It gives off a false excessive demand for this fest…maybe that’s why they like it.

I do wonder if it actually creates any issues for people selling back or if we're dealing in hypotheticals. My friend put up an extra 3 day last week and it's gone.

part of me respects the Dice/waitlist thing because it does keep scalping down, but at the same time it makes it nearly impossible for people to plan to go. like, what's worse - holding on to a hotel room/rental in limbo, not knowing if you'll get tickets? or biting the bullet and paying a few hundred dollars over face to just get the tickets you want?
the years when I've been on the waitlist it didn't really matter as much to me, since we're in Newport anyway, but for people just planning on coming in for the fest its a huge hassle.
