Love Beasties but I'd be hard pressed to name a specific verse of theirs that is all-time or parse who's the best rapper, partly because they trade lines and bars so much I guess.
yeah it’s hard to separate them but they all have their own unique styles. I think Ill Communication has a lot of great individual performances, notably Sure Shot and Get it Together.
Would be interested to see how the Beasties would get ranked individually
I would go MCA Ad Rock Mike D
Without doubt MCA was the best rapper of the group Ad-Rock kills instrumentals if you check out the live shows, but was always was the jump in. Mike D is smooth, and a great MC, I think probably kept the crew in check
MCA was also a jack of all trades. He’s probably my favorite instrumentalist of the group too, notably Sabotage.
I might actually prefer Ad Rock for rapping because of his personality.
Real talk - An Atmosphere (Slug) show is the only one I could persuade bonzai to enjoy. It's also kinda how we met for real
I walked away from Bonnaroo pit whatever year it was (15?) after trying to tolerate it for 40 minutes and hating almost all of what I saw besides the turntable guys. Even still it ranks down with Yachty for bottom ever rap shit I witnessed. I really didn’t like that show which is not something I’ll often say.
Those motherfuckers aren’t far off either. -350 any are left in top 10.
I know they're meant to be low hanging fruit for the early rounds. But still.
Yeah but as white as Postjack may appear to be, he’s got to come up with a list of these people he doesn’t listen to that often. Some of them have to be low hanging. Some shit will be forgot. And other stuff may be debated. You and I both have already put out our top few. At least two of them in a Venn Diagram ought to make it to the top 4. Unless /Sabotage
Can we do a pop artist survivor next? I feel like it would start an actual war
I'm not real strong on pop artists but I'll give it a shot:
1. Dave Matthews 2. Blues Traveller guy 3. Whitney 4. Mariah Carey 5. James Vanderbeek 6. Dennis 7. Jason Statham 8. Chocolate rain guy 9. NF 10. Taylor from American idol 11. The Voice 12. Johnny Rotten 13. Britney Spears 14. Jeff Dunham 15. Tina Fey 16. Bjork 17. Riki Rachtman 18. Steely Dan 19. Yung Lean 20. Captain D's
I missed Kid Rock on first glance. So I was like why isn’t anyone else voting for Fred Durst? There’s only 2 options for winner here and they both start with the letter E.
I appreciate that this is about rapper preferences and not who's best. Em is a pretty clear winner in the latter scenario, and that's boring. He's still my favorite of this group though, after which is Mac Miller. Dude's music is wavy.
I would like to nominate Machine Gun Kelly so that we can vote him off. I also wish K. Flay was included so I would feel less like misogynist swine for voting Iggy in the first round.
El-P: 1.5M (Run The Jewels has 1.4) I don't really have a point, but it is weird that El-P has more solo than RTJ
Doing my part this Thursday morning.
Jokes aside, I think they use his RJT and Company Flow streams as well as including his solo output.Either that or everyone just realized C4C is the best thing he's ever done.
So this is probably a good to post this. We went to see RTJ last week and my brother in law was with us. He doesn’t go to a lot of shows and even less hip hop shows. He could not wrap his mind around why it was 95% white people at the show. We tried to give him all kinds of reasons and he just kept coming back to it. What would you say the reason is?

we don't know exactly how spotify's algo works when ranking an artists "popular" songs, but it's based on some mixture of overall streams and recent streams. so maybe Ninja Rap has had more recent streams than the radio edit of ice ice baby.

Shady math. Yet another reason I won’t use Spotify.
