Maybe if more people actually turned up to vote for Democrats in both primary and general elections (especially in the southeast US) we'd have a bona fide liberal Democratic party in the Federal government.
The Democratic party has long been incompetent and pandered to the right. Let’s be real, they don’t care to have a bona fide democratic party or anything left of center. They are perfectly happy with their neoliberal, neocolonial state that fills their pockets. It’s not the fault of the people that the product sucks.

It’s debatable Israel would act much different with the GOP in charge. I’m not sure it would make a huge different as far as how the bombing campaign has went.
What’s pretty clear is Palestine was and continues to be on the edge of a cliff. They still haven’t gotten fuel which means a couple hundred patients WILL die if the hospitals go dark.
The already shitty water also can’t be pumped and filtered without fuel.
The food trucks aren’t enough for the size of the population.
The Medical supplies aren’t enough for a war zone.
Democratic supporters can talk all day long about the behind the scenes work Biden has done(not much). The public support for Israeli policy is allowing this to happen. Biden is a fucking monster. As is anyone paying lip service with this bullshit.
Even if they somehow can’t stop it. They can join in calling it out and refuse to supply military support. Which will never happen because this is pretty much US policy as well.

The people definitely deserve some of the blame.
I would be much more apt to agree with you if the US was an actual democracy and not an oligarchy controlled my special interests ($). The U.S. won’t even support a ceasefire when even 55% of Republicans support it.
Yes people should educate themselves and get to the polls, but when there is such little faith in your government and your political power as an individual, the party is the one responsible for fixing that and they have shown time and time again that they aren’t going to.
I'm expecting more to call for one soon. It should have been done already, except any legitimate criticism of Israeli policy is immediately met with people screaming anti semitism and siding with terrorism.

Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.

THIS! If we had 80%+ voter turnout nationwide, the Democrats wouldn't have needed to pander to centrists/"independents" for votes.
The problem is that Republican voters turn out en mass every time, whereas too many left-of-center voters have to be coaxed to show up to the polls at all.
*in b4 voter suppression excuses. If you can take the time to file your Federal taxes, you can take the time to overcome any local hurdles to vote in the 1-3 major elections held every year. Wish there was a legal mandate for every US citizen to vote a la Australia, but like abolishing the electoral college (which would require a constitutional amendment), wishing is about as good as it gets in the status quo.
**If the US had a parliamentary model like most other major democracies worldwide, I'd be 100% in support of voting for whatever political party that best aligns with your beliefs. We do not enjoy such a model in the United States unfortunately (blame the ~founding fathers~ etc), and its a fool's errand to pretend otherwise when filling out a Federal ballot.
I genuinely hope y'all are contacting your Federal congressional representatives+senators about your opinions as it concerns financial/military aid to Israel in the context of this conflict. It takes about as much effort as it does making a post on inforoo dot com about the same, with far more impact.

Anyway, here's to House Republicans tacking on defunding the IRS to the Israel "aid" bill to effectively torpedo it in the Senate. Shame to the 12 House Dems who voted in favor:
Angie Craig (Minn.), Don Davis (N.C.), Lois Frankel (Fla.), Jared Golden (Maine), Josh Gottheimer (N.J.), Greg Landsman (Ohio), Jared Moskowitz (Fla.), Darren Soto (Fla.), Haley Stevens (Mich.), Juan Vargas (Calif.), Debbie Wasserman Schultz (Fla.) and Frederica Wilson (Fla.)
If any of them happen to be your rep, you should let them know your displeasure. NOTE: It would've passed anyway had all of them voted no or abstained.
SupeЯfuЯЯyanimal Strangely enough, your batshit house rep voted Nay on it.

I think you’re given them too much credit thinking this isn’t just who they are and what they stand for.
Plus, a person doing it out of fear of bad faith attacks isn’t someone worth spitting on.

1. She knew it was a stunt that wouldn't pass. The GOP tied it to the IRS in some scheme. Biden has promised the money. They are getting it.
2. She used it as her own stunt to stand up for building a border wall as a first priority. Possible looked at the polls and saw GOP folks weren't happy with sending Israel money either. But mainly she knows her voter base. Super racist against Latin Americas and anything to do with the border.

Again, I don't think Israel deserves another dollar of financial/armament aid from us. I'd rather we not be involved in this at all, but by calling Biden a "monster" is ignoring the fact that Republicans exist, and if given the opportunity would eagerly commit to fanning the flames.

1. It did pass though, and would've passed anyway without her vote or any Democratic vote.
2. Stunt or not, a majority of Republicans voted Yay on the measure. I'd be shocked if she actually poll tested this, as though she would face a primary challenge one way or the other. If anything I could see her getting flack for implicitly "not supporting" defunding the IRS by voting Nay.

I'm a socialist. I'm not easily impressed by the difference in the two parties so I don't really have much slack to give to Biden. He's been on the wrong side of most every issue my entire life. The GOP fanning the flames wouldn't make much of a difference. Israel is dropping bombs at an insane level. They can't strategically do much more because they have to have reserves in case Hezbollah gets involved. That's why about a third of their troops are stationed close to their northern border and not closer to Gaza. For example, there is a real concern that the Iron Dome could conceivable run low on rockets if Hezbollah enters into this. Israel has a massive military but they do have limits. So again, the GOP couldn't actually make this much worse than it already is unless the entire GOP and military brass went suicidal and decided they actually wanted to fight Iran(they do not). We haven't reached the level of fascism where we are that self-destructive just yet. Close but not quite there.
And yes, he's a monster or just too senile to be in charge of this lumbering, dying empire. A "humanitarian pause" is classic nice guy Democratic talk. The kinder, gentler machine gun hand. It's meaningless. It's talking in theory instead of facing the actual war that is happening. You know, the one Biden supported for weeks. The one the White House Press Secretary said that it would be disgusting to ask for ceasefire about. The one that had plenty of folks in the State Department upset because the US was going right along with this insanity. And lets be clear. There's very little chance Israel is going except many "pauses" when they have ground units surrounding Gaza City. So the Dems have waited to a point where the whole idea is almost farcical. I'm sure they will let more aid into the south now but it's a little too late for the innocent lives already lost.
To be fair, this is just classic PR talk. Biden is just doing what any US leader would do. Saying nice things and being "deeply concerned" while not actually addressing the elephant in the room. The reason it's not addressed is because that is the actual goal. Bombing and subjugating people is a common event in imperialism. The only real concern is the tightrope act of not going too far or at least not getting caught doing so. Which is the great sin Israel has committed to some in DC. It's getting to be inconvenient for them.
Let's put it another way. On Inforoo, by the night of Oct. 13th a lot of us could see where this was going. Not because we are geniuses but because it was obvious. This had humanitarian disaster written all over it. Biden and the dipshits in the Democratic Party let this drag on for 3 weeks. 3 weeks. They've only started changing gears because polling and things are getting so out of hand that a regional conflict is getting more and more likely. All of this is something a bunch of music festival nerds could have told them weeks ago.

I have my doubts.
Came here to post. Absolutely insane. There's always money. When politicians tell you there's no money for a green new deal, public housing, public schooling, medicare for all, drinkeable water??? etc. etc., show em that.
For all the criticism Israel is getting (which is valid btw) I've yet to see many realistic alternatives or other COAs. How should they have proportionally responded to what Hamas did on 7 Oct and ensure something like that doesn't happen again? Avoiding civilian casualties was also going to be near impossible given how Hamas operates in Gaza. But I have my own ideas about how the IDF could have at least minimized them better and they didn't seem to prioritize that at all, at least during their initial stages of retaliation. The ground operations especially were always going to be problematic but also inevitable after the 7th. And now it's a complete shit show.

By politicians I assume you mean Republicans.
Also begs the question: How would the EU respond to this absent the US?
Realistically, what is a war crime? I’m not asking for examples of war crimes, I’m saying what is it other than some words we use to describe something that happens? Because if the United States commits a war crime, nothing will actually happen. If our allies commit one, nothing will happen.
Is it just a way for our government to describe something an enemy does so that we can act justified in our response to it? It just seems meaningless
Just a friendly reminder to stick to the subject at hand in this thread please. If you want to straight up talk about our democracy and our government issues and voting in the US, please do that in the correct thread (Politics thread).

It's based in international law, the Geneva Conventions, the UN, etc.
