There is no way NY&CH is playing Sunday. Idk if I agree that Hozier is closing out a stage.
Kind of agree it would be a different slot. You’d think that Jimmy tribute is almost for sure before Shorty? I saw they had about 20 dates confirmed from artists at the JF forum but not for that timeslot. I’m wanting to see Neil, Stones, Panic, Bomba Estereo, nickel creek, foos and .Paak of the big names so I’ll see how the days shake out. Cimafest is Friday so maybe Cimafunk plays either Thursday or Friday. WSMFP should bring them out.

That's a fair point. Do we think Hozier is more likely to close Gentilly or open for, say, Foos?
If they have NYCH on Saturday, wonder who opens for Trombone Shorty...honestly probably the Jimmy Buffet tribute right??
I think Hozier is definitely a Gentilly closer if closing out the fest. Could be opening for the Friday headliner too, but Gentilly stage seems like the correct answer of where they will be, just not sure of the time slot.
ooh boy. depending on if NYCH put out anymore dates, i'll head down for whatever night they play W2.
It would be 5-7:10 or so. Maybe they’ll give them 2:30 since it’s Crazy Horse and maybe one of our last shots since he’s almost 80. No chance I’m missing whatever day that is so let me know if you come down. Goes for anybody.
Edit what Postjack said. I didn’t think he’d get last Sunday but the actual headliner plays before Orleans Ave who took over the annual close out.
whenever it is, I'm not gonna miss a NY&CH show within driving distance.

So you are saying I am going to see a snowman in New Orleans in May?! Wow, this climate change shit is wild.
Fri- Foo Fighters, with Hozier opening Sat- Neil Young (GVF opposite? They list 5/4 as well) Sun- Queen Latifa? Jimmy Buffett tribute?
If she’s Sunday, Queen most likely would be on Congo Square which is kind of the 1C stage. Generally roots, R&B, rap and hiphop play on that one. Shorty will close main stage Sunday with the Buffett tribute likely for the spot either one or two before. Hozier either immediately precedes Shorty or he’s on Gentilly stage. Since Frankie Beverly & Maze traditionally closed out Congo Square the last Sunday, it’s possible Queen could get the pre-close spot and they give that to Earth Wind & Fire.
That sucks. I was going to buy mine last week, but I'm not going that Sunday and figured I'd just wait for the single days. Hopefully they will still issue those this year else I'm getting scalped.
I went ahead and ordered the 3 day 2nd weekend and will just have to figure out what I'm doing for Sunday since there isn't anything I'll probably want to see badly enough to go. Also means I'll probably skip out on the Stones and just hang out outside the fence and jam with them that day.

I'm trying to figure out the best play. I think we may wait until we are there to get a deal on a VIP pass for Fri-Sun. Perhaps someone that went to see The Stones and doesnt care about it beyond that. I'd love to include VIP on Thur into the plan but the difference in cost BC of the stones is probably not worth it.
Jazz Fest gonna sell out before Coachella in the of our lard 2024
I'll take The Rolling Stones, Neil Young, and Foo Fighters over what Coachella has without a second thought.
Big names yeah. But they're not really comparable festivals in my opinion. They're at opposite sides of the rainbow in many different categories. I'm sure there are good times and headaches to be had at both. I did, however, review last year's food options to find crab options and came up with these:
No telling who all will be there this year, but probably about 90-95% of the same vendors. If you never checked out their food, it's up there for festival food. I think there used to be a festival around San Diego that went super high end. This isn't so much high end stuff as just good quality options. They had a bunch of Puerto Rican options last year over in the cultural-exchange section which will be Columbian vendors this year. 3post1jack1 noted that the Trifongo was awesome. I got some drinks over there and I think the pollo guisado. Here's the link so you can get an idea of what's there. The note on this is the later it gets in the day, particularly on Saturday and Sunday, the longer the lines will be. Best thing to do is hit 3 or 4 places before 2pm. Maybe grab a dish or two right after you get in and hit the bar. Other side note is that last year it all went cashless. So you'll need to bring a card.
It's probably my favorite festival food. My favorite thing to eat at Jazz Fest is the Cochon Du Lait. 8 or 9 years ago, the vendor was Walker's BBQ. Cochon du lait is a cajun pulled pork sandwich dressed with a creole slaw, on french bread. Not to be confused with a pulled pork po-boy which is pulled pork, dressed like a po'boy (lettuce & tomato).

They still exist. They just use their catering arm, "Love at First Bite" for Jazz Fest. Walker's is a trip. I've been to Castnet Seafood plenty of times. That's a seafood restaurant connected to Walker's. Never has Walker's been open when I've been there. Apparently they're only open at some points during the year and from like 10:30-1/2pm before closing on the couple of days a week they are open. Apparently they can make it that way, so good for them. Here's an article from about 10 years ago discussing the sandwich you were talking about.
FWIW, I was home in the 'cola two weekends ago and made it 2x to Brownbagger Food Truck. I love those mfers even though I'm getting chicken wraps these days instead of hamburgers.

So, I actually got to go to Walker's when I had to go over to NOLA for work. They stay open until they run out of meat for the day. It's east of UNO not exactly convenient from the Quarter. That work trip, my boss told me that the per diem was use or lose and they gave me $85/day. I ate pretty damn good that week. The lady that does the travel told me my boss was wrong and I did get to keep the per diem. My next trip out there was a lot of Popeyes.
If you do get to NOLA and have a hankering for BBQ, Cochon's and the Joint are also good. Cochon's is a little more upscale. Neither one has that sandwich I love, but they are good BBQ.
The 'cola has a ton of food trucks now. I'll have to check Brownbagger out. My favorite truck these days is Sut-Shi. I love his Sushi burritos or whatever he calls them.

Nice. I live in both places at the moment. I'm from New Orleans and job is here, but my house is in Florida. Cochon and Cochon Butcher are pretty great. We had red beans and rice with fried pork chops from Butcher last Monday. I do like the Joint and used to live a couple blocks away from it, but I like Central City and Blue Oak a bit more. Brownbagger used to be on N. 12th by Wisteria Bar, but they moved it to Alga Brewing. Good smashburgers and chicken there plus Alga has decent brews. I'll check out Sut-Shi as that Tokugawa looks like some shit I'd devour. They have that other hybrid truck in front of Odd Colony, but I can't remember the name of it - MiSu or something like that?

few pictures of me and my one true love over the years.
edit: love that last pic because that lady and the guy saw me getting a picture taken pointing at the cochon de lait and jumped in because they shared my enthusiasm.
And yes Cochon Du Lait and Mango Freeze are two of the best things, but don't forget that oyster patty. You got to get the trio, the crawfish sack, crawfish beignet and oyster patty from Patton’s Caterers. Holy shit that shit is so good.

I wonder if I can get free tickets through US brewery. We always get free tickets to other brewery events and I am always off on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
