What actual bands could even headline this year? There's always been at least one in the top 3, but this year the pool of realistic options feels like it's the smallest it's ever been. The Killers and Blink-182?

phish, dead and co, feel like they could randomly promote a band that doesn’t quite feel “there yet” like VW, Arctic Monkeys, 1975 or something

i feel like this is going to happen to sturgill. he's had a monster tour and he's a massive draw. he might not be as commercially popular the way stapleton is but people still love sturgill.

Last year it looked like there were a few artists in that category who folks might not have considered headliners going in. I think Hozier kind of fit the bill perfectly for mid sized festivals, and I'm sure Lord Huron would do the same this year.
I'm hoping that last year was a wake up call for artists charging outrageous prices. Some of the asking prices I've heard for festivals have been absurd jumps in prices and I think that's given guys like Hozier and Noah Kahan a space to fill in and rise in popularity.

Plus that Sturgill set in 2018 is one of my top 5 roo sets ever. He def deserves a headlining spot imo. New tour is sick af. He jams hard and a lot of fun covers.

What I loved about that 2019 set was that there were no visual effects. No fancy light rig, no lasers, I don't even think they had a video board on behind them. They just went out there with the generic stage lights and just jammed for an hour.
I swear they did that intentionally knowing Muse played after them, a band that relies a lot on special effects.

Dude I know! burned the fucking stage and it was his bday. Dude made me a fan for life that day

"my midlife crisis is fuckin dope!" is one of my favorite stage banter quotes i've ever heard
To me, they're an Anthem band and I could just see them on What Stage about 2300 belting out one of their big hits under the stars. Think their music plays well outdoors. Not a big Coldplay fan (would never pay to see them in a non-fest setting), but wouldn't mind hearing 'In My Place', 'Clocks', 'Viva La Vida', 'White Shadows', 'Charlie Brown', 'Paradise' and 'Princess of China'.

MCR could headline. Oasis (just joking) too. I think Paramore is a headlining act, but they probably don't. Maybe Fall Out Boy or Foo Fighters or Rammstein (wow that would be something).

I'll tell you an act I just thought of that would be super badass, playing at midnight on What or Which: Die Antwoord. Saw them at 2016 Lolla and they were insane. That little girl is a nut.

I saw him in 2013 at Voodoofest. He was 1st act to play that day. Crowd about 180 or so. I stood on rail next to his very proud dad. Other time I saw him was at Forecastle several years ago. He was main act that night. Played the damdest blues set I've ever heard. I think I missed his 2019 set. Must have been at another stage or passed out.
I think we can move Justice, Vampire Weekend and King Gizz to a notch or two below locked. The Festiverse Discord has been popping the last two days.
oh this would be so good. if we get even half of the names being thrown around on here it would make up for the cancelled roos and how insane those lineups were
