We’re slowly starting to be at the stage where dropping names isn’t that big of a deal, I don’t think Brad was intentionally misleading us on Discord. Im thrilled it seems we’re getting VW again finally.
There’s one that isn’t really safe to spill yet that’s kinda sorta out of left field that I’m pretty happy we’re getting.
the out of left field artist you mentioned here isn’t the thursday headliner?
all of these + jelly roll have been guessed a ton. with both brad and remeard saying that they don’t think anyone will guess it, we really have to think outside of the box. i think snoke is on the right path with it being an artist not known for music. only musical artist i could think of headlining that really would be super left-field is insane clown posse and even that feels like something we’ve put on mocks before
I don't know the Thursday headliner; that was someone else.
My left field guess is Thom Yorke. The Smile is kind of in an odd spot with Johnny recovering and he's doing a killer solo tour in Australia, New Zealand, and East Asia.
I have no idea how big of a draw he is, capacity at his shows have been about 5000 which is somewhere in line with some of Pretty Light's shows up to that point. He's got a good relationship with the festival and could be a unique draw - but I doubt he's planning that far in the future as a solo act, I think this current run is him just filling in time while Johnny gets better.

Jack seems like the most likely candidate given how his out of pocket touring has been lately.
I mean you’ve spoken to Brad irl before, when he says something like “no one will ever guess our Thursday headliner,” does he know how big of freaks for this kinda stuff we are? I’m just curious if you can clue us in on the likelihood of that statement being a slight exaggeration on his part
I mean, I'll have him on our show in a week. I'll think of ways to diplomatically get more out of him on this.
I have another really wild and out of pocket theory on this Thursday person. I think there's a very small but still real chance it could be some sort of thing with Steve Martin. He's played Bonnaroo before, has joked about how much he loved it a few times in different appearances, has been doing a lot of untraditional stuff with Martin Short and other friends, and we certainly have not had anybody like him on our radar.
Edit: Sorry, I kind of glossed over the question - Brad absolutely knows how geeky we are about this stuff. He digs around on here, Reddit, Discord, etc. I don't think he'd exaggerate too much.
David Byrne Maybe? Has played the festival before, Talking Heads music has always been popular and is kinda more relevant after the re-release of Stop Making Sense, and Livenation was apparently trying to get Talking Heads to reunite and play festivals last year
Think deegle said the third letter of the left field act wasn’t a vowel.
Put me down for Conan.
that makes sense tbh didn’t he headline Newport this year?
He did and it was a great time. Set of the weekend for me. This feels very possible. I could see Conan reaching out after the success of the Newport Set
I just recorded our podcast with the crew that's doing the Wednesday event this year, it'll almost be a co-production with Bonnaroo itself this time around. They had a ton to share and a little bit to announce that's pretty fun.
We don't have anything quite as juicy as the What did this week, but we also were able to drop some hints about some names that haven't been discussed anywhere yet. It should be up late tonight or early tomorrow.

Can you ask him if they have anything special planned for Friday the 13th?

Listening back and it sounds like Brad says the Thursday HL is on the What kinda? And he says it after he mentions comedy. I don’t think they’d open What for Conan. Bo kinda seems like the only thing they’d do that for but idk why they’d reach out to Roo specifically?
