who are other acts that could fit the no doubt slot next year
In terms of a giant singalong that everybody knows, The Killers are the most obvious. When I heard Green Day rumors for W2 special guest, I was like "ehhhh" but when I looked at their discography, I was shocked by all the hits they had. Coldplay will be a less popular answer here but absolutely could deliver that "oh, damn, that song too?" moment.
Glastonbury is the ONE y'all. as much as I love my chella
I think for large multi-genre, outside of specific personal preferences for one fest or the other, Coachella, Prima, and Glastonbury are the only defensible answers for best festival in the world and then it just comes down to what specifically matters to you. But, those are the three, although I put Glaso/Coachella in a completely different tier than Prima just due to scope/cultural influence/size, but the fact that their lineups can compete with the "Big 2" says something.

Between SHM, Calvin and No Doubt, I don’t think it’s really a certain kind of “slot” anymore and is basically a 4th headliner now, so really could be anybody.

Yeah, no. We will spend the next year discussing which seminal 90s rock act will reunite for that slot.

This is how I see it. Just an extra headliner billing.
Its for whatever agent negotiates well enough to not have their client just get normal sub font, but not well enough to earn a co-headliner spot
to be fair, no doubt merch had their own tent in the “headliner merch” area. i think artists just dont like sharing their headline spot on the day so instead the would be coheadliner is shifter to the bottom of the poster

Coldplay would just headline more than anything and nobody would say it was a bad move. Its 25 years of Parachutes next year so maybe they actually do something about it.
You can also see that putting this artist at 9pm is a smart move cause you can maximize attendance. After that set ends people still got a couple hours to go do what they want and not feel like they wasted their night waiting to see if the act was good or not and be tired. If you arent keeping people interested at midnight then theyll leave.
It was an insane weekend of potential new headliners along with ones that could repeat. Billie knows she can come perform whenever the time comes and itll be a draw. Olivia is most def gonna do it and really wont be a shock if she is the W2 add on ( like ive been saying ). Taylors gone a few times and it might be giving her the itch to say yes after watching everyone go crazy for Ice Spice. Riri knows whats up and she was so close to doing it anyway. Bieber is just in a weird spot. He has his health issues and all the shit Scooter Braun has tried to do to get him onto the fest might just make it a "meh, we'll see" type deal.
As said above, Coldplay even next year after not having played in 20 years would be something and they can get their production and all that sorted easy. Beyonce with all 3 acts performing over all 3 weekends will be one of the most ambitious things you could ask for and nobody else could even attempt it. Thats an intriguing pitch to make and possibly the only way you can get her to return and to just do something totally different that doesnt step on the toes of Homecoming at all.
Still got Talking Heads and Sade as white whales. Oasis and The White Stripes might be the last "rock bands" they ever have if Ratm never changes their mind again. Paramore or My Chemical Romance proved they belong with the big names and you shouldnt doubt pop punk/emo like at all.
I don't think they'd have both Billie and Olivia headline the same year. I also very very much doubt that Billie will be there again next year at all. It's really rare to have a headliner return that quickly and I don't think Billie is one that they'd do it with.
I just don't see the XX ever headlining. Their new album would have to be a massive hit for it to even start being possible, and they've never made the type of music that could blow up that much in the past to begin with.
The way that RTTD has gone so far, I don't think Rufus is big enough, but maybe that's just a fluke of the moment rather than a solid trend going forward. Before No Doubt, I'd have figured that they probably could have had that place, but comparing them to a SHM "reunion", Calvin Harris, and No Doubt just doesn't make sense.

Rufus is the smartest lineup move you could make right now. Not a headliner, a sub - but would move tickets like a headliner. The 25-35 average Coachella-goer demographic is absolutely rabid for them...not going to bring new people to the show, but a huge name amongst the types of people that often buy tickets. People are freaking out at the idea of them doing a DJ set at Quasar and saying they are going to watch the whole thing instead of the other Friday night acts. Just a DJ set!
rufus du sol dj set is only 2/3 of them too. i believe tyrone said he wont be there. imo they could easily headline, their Osheaga headline crowd was absolutely massive.
Just said to my Fiance, PT has that contract already ready to go as soon as the military service is up
earliest possible is 2026 right? would be such a delight to have free reign of every other stage lol
The discharge date for the member who enlisted last is June 21 2025. So before that you have 5 or 6 of them finished and at least maybe getting back into music and regular life. So if they had 6 months to prep their first show and everything thats plenty of time. Its a question of IF they want to make this the first thing or not. Or if its the first thing in America for that matter. Could be like Blackpink where they had some warm ups in Korea in March and then had a couple weeks before Weekend 1 to fine tune their set.

Yeah I could see them headlining when their next album comes out.
