New drinking game: take a shot anytime someone mentions Dua’s singles not doing well.
That and suggesting Rihanna might headline. It’s been like five years of “album coming this year! Tour happening!” She doesn’t care about music anymore. Maybe she’ll play but it’s not someone should expect lol
My take: - Paramore is no headliner, at least not atm. A cult following for sure but lacking that mainstream appeal needed to headline. Lana was just on the cusp, bordering between cult and mainstream, but made it because her streaming numbers were behind only Taylor Swift and her team likely pushed for her to headline. - GV will likely want Dua Lipa back for 2025 but I bet they’re keeping an eye on how this album performs in the US - the singles haven’t stuck. - No chance Rihanna plays. She’s a billionaire and I don’t think she’s passionate about music anymore. I think she’d do it if the number was right, but I also don’t see GV spending millions just to get Rihanna.
Lana was behind a lot more people than just Taylor Swift in streaming. She did great but wasn’t top 10 in streaming in 2023 in the US.

I was talking globally, but in the US I think she was behind Taylor and SZA. Regardless she’s undeniably a streaming force at the moment.
Also I’m talking females. I think Taylor might’ve been the only female in the top 10 last year.

Well people were wondering if MCR was good enough to be a headliner and it was widely agreed upon that GV made one of the biggest mistakes kicking em off the lineup. Paramore puts on a fucking show. Like what headliners are supposed to do. Not taking a fucking nap and making an audience go home early like Lana did. They literally almost had Rihanna so why would they not keep at it with her.

You sound mad. Lana’s crowd at the end of W1 was larger than Tyler’s at its peak. But unsurprisingly no one will dare to mention that Tyler’s crowd was historically small.
The reason why Coachella is revered is because GV takes risks with their lineup choices. If you look at the social media reception outside of the niche festival fan communities you’ll see that this year’s most talked about headliner was Lana through and through.
I hope GV continues to keep people on their toes and doesn’t just go for performers because that would be boring and conventional. &&& they were right to boot MCR.

Lana’s crowd was tiny 15 mins in when I got there W1, let’s be real. Maybe it was big to start, but it was LCD/Tame Impala esque by then. I took a Ferris wheel ride 30 mins in and was so bummed that I didn’t get to see a big (or frankly any) crowd at the main stage. I love seeing a mass of people at a show I don’t care about while riding the Ferris wheel. No dice. Felt like the fest had ended already.
But also Paramore playing today is not remotely the same as MCR playing in 2020. MCR playing today is not the same as MCR playing 2020 lol. First reunion shows are different than reunion shows two years in.

There were not a lot of people at Coachella this year. None of the headliners had Harry styles/bad bunny crowds. Lana had a big crowd in the middle of her set and she moved tickets

Only weird thing that stands out to me is Tears for Fears on the third line. I don’t think they’ll ever play Coachella at this point outside of the Weezer cameo, but if they did I’d think they’d at least be the last name on the 2nd line. Older people that aren’t regular attendees aren’t usually looking past the 2nd line of these posters, if they’re booked I’d think they’d want to move some passes for it. It also seems like any pre 90’s band that was commercially popular at some point in their career is always above the third line. Trent and Atticus would be 2nd line as well in my opinion. This would be my favorite lineup in a decade though. I love the undercard an unreasonable amount.
Is that supposed to be Eurythmics on the mock? Genuine question as you could easily tell me there is a rapper or dj with an intentionally misspelled name and I'm so out of touch I wouldn't know it.
But if it's Eurthymics then no, that's not happening. It's just not.

Love this! A few things:
- You spelled Eurythmics wrong - I think St Vincent’s team would push for a second line or nothing at all - Tiga shows up twice - your clashfinder is private
Re: Deftones can anybody explain to this aging millennial what other bands from my era are inexplicably popular on TikTok?
Please say Missy
Deftones hit the lotto with nu-metal / harder rock aesthetic having a resurgence in both fashion (affliction, ed hardy, jorts, y2k grunge) and in some subgenres (rage, garage / indie rock) right now. Seems like today's teenagers love critically acclaimed, big-but-not-as-mainstream bands from the 90s/early 2000s. So less Pearl Jam and Third Eye Blind and more Mazzy Star, Aphex Twin, Cocteau Twins.
System of a Down and Massive Attack would be good selections for that Deftones spot I'd think.
St Vincent has been first line last 2 appearances. Doubt she goes lower and is probably just end of the line. James Blake, Trent, Laufey, Black Pumas and Tear For Fears would want one line higher. Laufey is subbing her day at Lolla so thats your indicator. Caroline would maybe want first line too if she will be releasing a new album and moving onto bigger venues and such. The mock is not including Quasar I assume but theres probably a couple that can do double duty. James Blake doing a CMYK set at Quasar would be interesting.
System of a Down would wanna headline. So them billed as an "And.." would probably be the way to do it unless you had My Chemical Romance headline and you put them before MCR. At least you would have some crossover with that. Bring Me The Horizon at the same spot as Deftones could be something to explore.
Hey Mikey, Is Lewis Miguel supposed to be Luis Miguel? The Mexican icon?
If so, my Fiance says that Luis Miguel in the desert is incredible unlikely. I guess he doesn't really like to tour, and when he does, he doen't play festivals / outdoor venues. He's very peculiar about his sound and ambiance.
Feel like they’d have a rapper or something before 3 pop stars, really think Travis Scott is coming back soon. I think by December of this year Fred won’t be in the mix for this conversation. 3 times in 4 years and 2 “headlining” spots in 3 years is a bit much.

Summer Smash in Chicago which isnt that big of a fest just used Cactus Jack to maybe veil his appearance even though his name is on the poster.
I’ve seen a couple of fakes with Tame Impala headlining but they’re a sub now. I love him(them) but there’s no way they headline lol
Worst case is RTTD. Absolutely not a sub.
You’re probably right. Admittedly I’m not very good at billing artists, but they were a *small* headliner in 2019 and haven’t done anything of note since. Just to reiterate, Tame might be one of my favorite artists of all time, but I’ve always felt they were over billed when they headlined.
