I always hold out hope that people will put some form of 2010s indie rock on their mocks and they never do. I'm old as fuck.
Also nobody putting Poetic Kinetics on their mocks makes me sad
I was thinking the same thing. They easily have the best art whenever they do Coachella. I believe the last time they were in the desert was 2019 though.
- A Hole reunion would probably grab some nostalgia headlines and is a perfect "only Coachella can book Courtney Love" type narrative - Saw Pet Shop Boys at Corona Capital and they were fantastic. Would be perfect if they closed Mojave. - Is Karol G really that huge? Does the Diane Warren Hot Cheetos song have reach I'm unfamiliar with? - I think Phoebe is focusing on her solo stuff currently, but her recent appearance with Conor at the Bright Eyes shows indicate that they're at least still friendly. I'd categorize this under a pipedream (but would be cool if it actually happened) - Forgot Duster came back for a bit. I'd be one of 20 people there when they close out Gobi. - Has Reznor ever taken a subheadline spot on the festival circuit? Not sure if they would take it. Could see them more in a RTTD slot, with Rihanna taking the Karol G spot (think it's more impactful to have Rihanna at top of the poster anyway). - I know this has been discussed ad nauseam, but I'm generally unsure if Fred is a headliner yet. - The new Soulwax live show is insane and it would be a huge miss if they're not booked - Would kill for mbv. Has there been any news of them coming back or working on new music? - Appreciate Royksopp and Moderat being on different days so we can avoid that conflict we had in 2017
if there’s a strongish zoomer presence next year that duster set would be solidly attended imo

Wonder how the crowds for Swans and Drive Like Jehu would have looked like if TikTok existed then
I could see Duster in the Sonora like Spiritualized a few years ago, though Duster definitely is more appealing to Gen Z nowadays
Slowdive would be packed to the gills.
I think offering Trent 2 choices for NIN and then the composer set is the move. If he is concerned about billing then he can get sub and mainstage with a 75 min set. If he doesnt care you move em a couple spots and he can get 90 just closing Outdoor. And 75 mins for the composer spot either way. NIN took a backseat at Meltdown Fest in 2016 when The Cure asked em to play. If you wanna dig back then NIN at glastonbury headlining Other stage in 2000 was the last time they took "lower billing"
Always a fan of your mocks! Feel like there's always inspired and well researched undercard picks, lots to discover (love the Fabiana Palladino pick, almost squeezed her on my mock). I do think Rema, NxWorries, and Tainy would be on the second line though.
That's a really great mock. The only thing I'd switch about is that they went really heavy on nighttime Sahara EDM and house sets this year with Dom, DJ Snake, Angello, John Summit, Peggy, etc and those sets were absolutely mobbed. No data on this, but would anybody be surprised if Angello/Dom/Summit matched the headliners crowd size at the same time? I find it hard to see them move back from that and for the highest billed sets to all be dubstep and DnB (although the latter genre is absolutely going to get some heavy love next year).
And if we're upset with "And..." verbiage for Rihanna, I made a mock I never released last year where I used "Queens of the Desert" for two acts (lana and I forget). There's a million things you can do.

I would definitely believe there were more folks at the Sahara than the main during the headliners, though I never ventured to the hill side of it so I have no clue if it was similarly packed all the way across.
Re: Rihanna as a not-technically-headliner: yes, they did that for No Doubt which was the biggest act on the poster, but they also added No Doubt at the last minute and probably contractually couldn’t bump any of the headliners. Hard to imagine Rihanna would be a last minute add, and I can’t imagine GV wouldn’t rather have their biggest act as an actual headliner instead of floating apart from the rest of the lineup. You want your headliners at the head of the lineup where people look first.

V0.5 (I left most of the artists from my 2024 mock on here that didn't play) I also spent about as much time formatting it as Coachella did for the 2024 poster

Thanks! And I was struggling to find house DJs on the level of Dom Dolla, John Summit, Peggy Gou etc that haven’t been done recently. That pool, along with those big Outdoor electronic closers, is starting to run out IMO (at least the huge ones) which is why I could see them pivoting to something else.

I also struggled with this. In reality they'll just call Fisher up again lol
