These Dua opening week numbers are bad. I mean the album is boring, but expected bigger debut. This is in line with latest Vamp Week record, and almost double below lets say Kacey M opening week for the new record, which started at 100k.
Dua has the cool factor for Coachella audience I guess, but very hard to imagine someone with these numbers headlining this fest.
Whelp it’s 9am in NYC and still haven’t slept after the Dixon: Transmoderna show at Mirage. Hands down the best electronic show I’ve been to in years… Afterlife and Prydz better amp it up because Dixon’s visuals and the Trixon simulation just blew everything out of the water.
Dixon seems to have a good relationship with Goldenvoice, will be a huge miss if Paul doesn’t get ahead the curve and books this for next year.
This is coming from a Prydz, Justice, Gesaffelstein fan….this was out of control
Shame on Dua but not surprised. After digesting the album for a few more days (and honestly listening to it like 10 times), I actually like it more than Future Nostalgia. I think it’s a timeless album and listening to it 10 years from now will still sound fresh and not outdated. End of an Era has to be my favorite Dua song of all time. Maria, These Walls, Whatcha Doing, and Happy For You are also pop perfection imo
Far more interesting than anything T Swift has put out since Folklore or Ariana since Dangerous Woman.
I think unfortunately what’s happening this year is that there are far too many big “pop girl” releases. 4+ months into the year and we already got 30 Tswift songs, a long ass Beyonce album, Ariana, Kacey, Doja’s deluxe, Kim Petras, Dua, and next week Billie.
This is on top of the new Katy Perry rumors + up and coming artists like Sabrina and Chappell
I was talking to my friends and they all agreed it’s been over saturation of music which makes it really hard to fully savor any album without feeling like you have to catch up the next week.

Dua Lipa with an underperforming album is still a bigger get than Lana, Tyler or Doja and makes bigger headlines than any of them. If Scarlet didn’t prevent Doja from headlining then I don’t see why this album would.
I’m only about an hour in but this has only entrenched me in my view that I would not enjoy Stagecoach at all even if it was free
At this point you need free vip pit and everything else to tolerate a day. I want to see if they use the bigger Sahara next year for the Diplo shit cause the whole area was crazy packed. And clearly yhe attendees love Chainsmokers and that bad edm cheese at the event cause they wanna bro it up.
Dua album sucks lol. I don’t understand what yall are talking about “cool factor with Coachella audience” she’s just another pop star. She’s famously mediocre live as well. At least when Ariana Grande last minute HLed in 2019 she was having a serious run and insanely popular. And that set wasn’t anything people talk about either.
Speaking to DJ Mag about Faithless’ return to the live arena, founding member Sister Bliss said: “These shows are going to be a celebration of all our years in music – what we love, what we stand for as a band, and a real tribute to Maxi as well.”
It’s just funny to get histrionic about what a failure it would be if Coachella booked who is currently the 7th most streamed artist in the world to headline.

more importantly, I'm listening to the Challengers OST right now and Goldenvoice does need to work some magic to make a Reznor/Ross set happen.
Luca Guadagnino's greatest contribution to the arts is (1) that Michael Stuhlbarg monologue in CMBYN and (2) getting Trent and Atticus to make a straight up techno record
Tired of making unrealistic wish list for future Coachellas. OMG Coachella 2007, there were so many mind-blowing conflicts and moments in its epic early years but stage hopping and running in so many sets that were happening at the same time, including being right where Sonic Youth and Faithless were at, as that will go down as one of GOAT in my indie live music hipster life lol. It was both spiritual and life-changing. Fortunately, I am so young and so easy doing stage-hoppings in all of them at that time lol. I could had gone home and already contented blown-away as a music fan after being part of history few hours earlier that Day One at Amy Winehouse then Arctic Monkeys.
that Faithless set in 2007 was easily in my top 3 of that year, maybe even the top set in hindsight. It was pretty much the only time they ever brought the band over to the US and I think if there's any time they are at least somewhat likely to return it's next year. Plus, I need to properly mourn and celebrate Maxi and these shows seem like they would be the perfect chance. It won't be the same without him, but just put a tribute on the screen for a couple tracks so we can hear his lyrical spoken words and I can cry and dance to Mass Destruction and Insomnia.
I know it's unlikely, but if they play anywhere in the US next year it'll be at Coachella.
LOL , fyi as of May 2024, Justin Bieber is at #7 and Dua Lipa as #8. Unlike before, very single year, no wonder with Spotify monthly listeners being possibly use as one of the main criteria, JB is always in that rumored or no matter how unlikely possible HL conversations 😝. Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Justin Bieber and Dua Lipa are the only ones at that May 2024 Spotify Top 10 that never headlined Coachella before.
Lana’s last record sold 115k first week. Tyler’s last record sold ~160k.
Dua’s looking to sell 40k. Get fucking realllllll lol
lol but but but Top 10 at Spotify. Someone said she is at #7. Right now for May 2024 , Justin Bieber at #7 and Dua at #8. People keep listening on repeat , non-stop for your favorites. 😝
Monthly listeners is kind of an irrelevant metric tbf, for example someone like Bebe Rexha who has no cultural pull can have more monthly listeners that say a Frank Ocean type simply because they had a massive radio song in 2015.
