All of nowhere, it’s cool to hate on Dua. Been reading post on predictions for Coachella 2024 and many of you were super excited to have her headline and now that she could actually do it in 2025 … where are you ??
Saw her live performance in time square and let me tell you , the music sounds really good live and would make a great Coachella set.

The funny thing to me about the Dua reactions here to me are that there are significant reactions at all. That album was...fine. I'm surprised anyone could feel either strong love or strong hate for it. A bit bland, generally pleasant, no songs that hit me on first listen the way Houdini did. Nothing here makes her less of a headliner (though I'll admit I'm less excited about her headlining now). Maybe it'll grow on subsequent listens.
Also a reminder that pretty much every time an artist comes out with quotes about how different their new album is going to be with comparisons to left field artists like Massive Attack, it's almost always bullshit. Except for the Killers talking up Bruce ahead of Sam's Town.

I have to agree with you here. The album is fine. I don't hear the Massive Attack inspiration. But her catalogue is strong enough and it'll be a fun set on Main Stage instead of an utter snooze like LDR.
I like the Dua album a lot. The instrumentation on it is really nice, her voice sounds great, and the album feels sleek and mature. Future Nostalgia has higher highs, but it also has songs that I have never liked (Boys will be Boys, Good in Bed). I like every song on Radical Optimism. Even Dua's "rapping" has matured into something less cringe. I think this one's a grower, personally.
Can someone ask the old lady from Egypt what she thinks of Lana Del Rey headlining Coachella so we can know whether the festival has redeemed its reputation as a laughingstock worldwide
This Dua hating is absurd. Significantly bigger headliner than Lana, Tyler, and Doja. It would already be a strong start to the 2025 line-up.
I mean if this were true wouldn’t her album sales reflect it? Or even the streaming figures?
The sales in the US are truly abysmal. People aren’t tuning in here. With that, what makes you think she’s a bigger headliner than Lana, Tyler, and Doja, whose recent albums sold 115k, 169k, and 72k respectively?

When you have a bad album roll out you pay the price in first week sales. Nobody right now should take 7 months to release something. Finish the record and then do everything. Dua said it still wasnt finished when Houdini was released.

I heard she left her old management. Maybe a bad decision?

Its true that this was one of the weakest pop album rollouts in recent memory. Just all wrong. Also dont thing my father will now be my manager thing is the best for her at this point. I really was told last summer, June 2023, that she will do Coachella and Glasto and album will be out first week of April 2024. Then apparently no one was really happy with the record, no real singles besides Houdini, they kept pushing it back, but couldnt anymore cause shows are starting in early June. So they settled for early May now. But it does feel album needs one or 2 more strong singles to push it forward. Its a shame, I like her, and I think it was all wide open for her to do a massive homerun with this record. Feels like a missed opportunity in a way.

Yes she left Tap. She had the same management company as Lana Del Rey, from her first demos. Bot Dua and Lana were taken on by Tap before the first singles were released. Dua left Tap last year and now her father manages her.

Allegedly, lead single and music video for it were scrapped because it wasn’t commercial enough and more importantly, the video depicted a riot at a music festival (problematic due to massacre that also happened at a music festival). There are more songs on the way since they were not finished in time for the release and will be sold as deluxe …
She’s headlining Glasto. She’s headliner or bust now. Her album sales literally don’t matter.
We’ve seen acts in the past become headliners then fall down in bookings. Not saying that’s going to happen to Dua. At least for now she is definitely still a headliner.
