You guys clearly are forgetting what a MASSIVE FLOP Sound and Fury was. Sturgill is lucky to get billed at all and should probably do us all a favor and just retire imho.
and has put out bluegrass inspired albums ever since. Also, I loved that Massive Flop of an album. I'd be excited to see someone like Sturgill, Stapleton, Zach Bryan, or Tyler Childers at Coachella. That style of country appeals to me, but surrounded by all the pop country, won't get me to purchase a Stagecoach ticket.

Stop reducing Zach Bryan to a country artist (Country rules, btw), Boys of Faith is a Bona Fide alternative EP with interesting sounds and evolution in Bryan's songwriting.

Sorry pal, Zach Bryan is a country star, with all of the disappointment that comes with it.
I have just realized that I have confused Zach Bryan with Luke Bryan for the past year and a half.
I was talking about Zach Bryan with my wife and she goes "oh he was great doing Fast Car with Tracy Chapman," and I go "oh no, that was LUKE Bryan." Reader, it was Luke Combs.

I was just over here thinking TickleMeElmo was throwing the dude who wrote those unforgivable "RAIN MAKES CORNNNNN, CORN MAKES WHISKEEYYYYY" and "COUNTRY GIRL SHAKE IT FOR MEEEEE" songs as a sub on his Coachella 2024 mock.

He made that album as a fuck you to his record company, was the last due on his contract, didn’t want it to be marketable at all. Hero move.

Fastest Horse in Town makes me become the fastest driver on the freeway. It’s a problem. Saw him at the Troubadour on that tour and it was amazing. My brother in law actually booked/promoted a show or two in Austin for him when he was still a part of Sunday Valley, before going solo, have been a fan since his early days.

So non-marketable they made a Netflix anime from it and got nominated for Best Rock Album?

Yep.
“Maybe if you don’t want to be on a record label anymore, you make a record they can’t market, then you get them to spend a million bucks on an animation film and refuse to promote it, and leave them holding this giant un-recouped debt. Maybe the bean counters will make a decision for me. I can go back to just doing it myself better than they do. That’s what I’ve learned. Because they don’t know what the fuck to do with me.”
Damn, this board went from "You boomers need to stop whining about GV not booking all these old-ass nostalgia acts...Coachella is about the new stuff and current music trends so deal with it" to "Man it would be great if we could just get Offspring, Dave Matthews Band, and Counting Crows."
Even funnier that all it took were sub-par sets from fucking Blink and No Doubt to flip the switch.

Blink was a lame ass set for sure, but No Doubt was the best show I’ve seen at Coachella between 2013, 2014, 2023, and 2024.

The differentiator for No Doubt and Blink is that they were reunions (as was Sublime, at least to a degree), which is why they're not booking Offspring, DMB, or Counting Crows and we can stop all that talk now.
I'm not gonna lie, I had a big DMB revival period last summer and would love to see them one more time, but, uh, not at Coachella. That's more of an Outside Lands/Bottlerock booking.

most of this board is boomers
There may be 2 or 3 boomers here. I’m the last year of Gen X and there’s not a lot of people here that much older than me.
