The differentiator for No Doubt and Blink is that they were reunions (as was Sublime, at least to a degree), which is why they're not booking Offspring, DMB, or Counting Crows and we can stop all that talk now.
Time to start working on proper reunions of:
Barenaked Ladies with Steven Page Collective Soul with classic guitarist Smashing Pumpkins with D-Arcy why not....Pixies with Kim Deal

The only one of these that is remotely likely IMO is Pixies, who they're willing to book without Kim anyway. Back in like 2006 a SP reunion felt like a no brainer, but whether it's because of how Billy brought them back (first just as Billy and whoever (and briefly Jimmy) til it lost steam, then reuniting with James and Jimmy but not Darcy or Melissa to get a little more juice out of it) or because PT just doesn't like them, I can't envision a world where they're booked anymore, even with Darcy.
Damn, this board went from "You boomers need to stop whining about GV not booking all these old-ass nostalgia acts...Coachella is about the new stuff and current music trends so deal with it" to "Man it would be great if we could just get Offspring, Dave Matthews Band, and Counting Crows."
Even funnier that all it took were sub-par sets from fucking Blink and No Doubt to flip the switch.
Blink was a lame ass set for sure, but No Doubt was the best show I’ve seen at Coachella between 2013, 2014, 2023, and 2024.
I keep thinking about this and it’s bumming me out

Wish I could say otherwise - even with Chemical Brothers as a solid runner up - but there just haven’t been huge headliner performances those years that blew me away. Closest thing was Arcade Fire in 2014 and, in hindsight, THAT bums me out.
Looked back at the set times for 2022 my first year.
1) so many more acts
2) so many better acts
I still liked these headliner more than 24, but overall it was just a little blah (Justice was probably the best thing I’ve ever seen at Coachella though). If next year isn’t an absolute home run of a lineup I’m taking that time and money on an international trip

most of this board is boomers
The fact that we post on message boards is a clear sign of our age group.

No way was the programming better in 2022. Revisiting the schedule, I’m glad I skipped that year. The only set I wish I caught was Danny Elfman and that’s another big time yikes in hindsight.

I didn't go 2022 because my wife was a month away from giving birth to our second kid, but that lineup did absolutely nothing for me. Way too Top 40 for my tastes. There was plenty I would have loved to see, but I prefer '24 to '22 ('23 sweeps both, and really sweeps almost any NA lineup ever). But yeah there were hella more acts. That Coachella was a little overloaded because they needed to bring back all of the '20 acts that wanted to return, but also wanted to book new acts as well. '19 and '23 I think are more representative of the total number of acts (minus all the empty stages during '23 headliners).
I agree that there were far too few acts this year though.

2022 was the worst Coachella I’ve attended. My only true highlights from that weekend were Doja Cat, Ela Minus, Anna, and The Marias. Flume was good too.
Yes I skipped Fred Again for Solomun because he really isn’t god’s gift like everyone thinks lol
Prospa was the coolest Do Lab booking of that weekend and they played for like 20 people because Disclosure was on at the same time.

I know zach still isn't up for a full tour, but it's a good sign that he did those live shows in Berlin earlier this year and whenever he's ready, I hope Beirut plays coachella.

That Flume set was probably the most underwhelming set i've ever seen

2022 was my first year as well and by far my least favorite.
I think the last two years have been such home runs for my taste. Controversially this year was the first year I actually wanted to see all the headliners and I probably would have if Orbital didn't conflict with Tyler and I have already seen him a couple times.
Edit: Actually I was wrong I had no desire to see No Doubt.

Olivia def seems like a good bet for next year, not something I would plan on seeing but it makes sense. I keep hearing she’s like the female saviour or rock for Gen Z but it’s just giving me Avril? I don’t get it, but it’s not for me ha.
I like Lana but I don't think she even sits at the same table as Dua.
Announcing a one-off show instead of a tour is kiddie table energy.
Selling out a stadium show in 8 minutes with zero notable hits since 2012 is impressive. Point blank.
...yeah if you just take that as the only metric for some arbitrary reason. Like, ok, she doesn't have "hits" but she's super famous and has tons of streams and album sales.
Selling a one-off stadium date means very little compared to the sort of tours that headliners often pull off.

I don’t see Olivia getting booked until 2026 or does she already have a new album in the works for next year?

I mean it’s a feat regardless. I don’t think many of her pop contemporaries would be able to.

I thought the same re: top 40 but when I look at the set times, the acts I saw, and the acts I skipped it was way better. I didn’t see most top 40 acts. I could’ve done a totally different weekend if I did bothchella and wouldn’t have seen anyone more “mainstream” than big Sean. Never considered seeing people like Flume lol. I actually find there’s more pop in this years festival, even if it’s “international pop” or someone like Chappell roan (no slight to her, but I’d consider that pop music).
This year a lot of the hours where the act I saw was more of an “I guess that seems to be the best one there.” Who would’ve been the third best option In similar spots in 23 or 22.
I think I had a better time in 24 because of the crew i was with and a better idea from experience of how I wanted to do each day/the festival, in addition to 22 being a little less efficiently organized on GVs side
