If you also agree with the more recent addition to the most influential electronic artists of all-time club, Aphex Twin and Burial, you should definitely not miss Kraftwerk if you have not seen them live.
Even some of my friends that are very into music history, found it to be ok. I agree here that this is a pretty specific case of "must see".
Yeah I've been trying to figure out whether Basement Jaxx/Kraftwerk would fit the vibe of me and my partner who are more into newer-age EDM. But we do also appreciate must-see classics, and my partner especially is super open to older acts. What will the vibes be like? I guess that's the better question
if your group tries to compare it to newer-age EDM you might leave disappointed. you'll never get a real drop at a kraftwerk show. these guys made electronic music when there wasn't much electronic music and it's much simpler. you might not even consider it dance music. it's great stuff, but it's not EDM and some people will probably find it very boring (because it kinda is if compared to new big room EDM stuff). still, check it out and if you like it stick around.
Jaxx on the otherhand, will be a dance party no matter what. vibes on check.
Maybe I'm extrapolating way too hard here off just one year of its existence, but Quasar to me seems to be pretty genre specific, much like Yuma is. I don't see Partygirl fitting the mold of that sound at all.
Genre as in EDM? Because the Brat remixes are EDM-adjacent and the Boiler Rooms were very EDM heavy (house, garage, etc.). We had a wide mix of EDM representation at Quasar this year, so I'm just genuinely asking.
Try going one step further into what subgenre's of "EDM" in particular and I think you'll get your answer.
Can someone describe Kraftwerk live. I'm pretty pumped, but never seen them, and have no idea how to break this one down for my group.
I haven’t seen them either so can’t help you with that. Tbh though this isn’t one I would try to convince your group over, just split if needed. I feel it’s gonna be a set for true electronic heads who care about the history of the genre. If the historical angle doesn’t appeal then I doubt they’ll wanna be there.
I will be honest I found Kraftwerk pretty boring in 2008, but that was before I really got into electronic music at all; I'm ready to give them another shot.

Agree here. Probably best to check out Kraftwerk on youtube and make a decision.

four old german dudes behind electronic gear all dressed the same. each one has a specific part they play, percussion(ish), melody(ish), countermelody(ish), and harmony(ish). mostly sequenced stuff with layers. they have screens behind then that usually play some cool videos. some are from musc videos and some are more waveform (ish), at one point they leave the stage and "the robots" come out. the animated robots play we are the robots while the old german dudes take a break. then the old german dudes come back and the real dance party starts.
Nicely put. It is up to those people who are unfamiliar to dig deeper why they are still huge deal and matter in (live) electronic music scenes.

I’m very into electronic music and legacy acts are my jam. I’m expecting it to be “boring” at some level but I think it will be very interesting to see one of the very oldest and most influential electronic acts ever. As long as they don’t conflict with another top top set for me I will be there.
After all it’ll probably be my only chance to see them if we’re being real.

I mean you're right on that part (re: House/Deep House/Minimal House/Techno), but to be fair the Boiler Rooms weren't too far from House/Techno and also had UKG (house adjacent). I'm just saying it might be in the cards, but I agree with you that might be more likely to be DoLab after running back the names again.
People are hoping for Fred and ___ though, so that's a different vibe from Quasar already too tbh

Basement Jaxx 100% need to go (if live).
Thanks for the feedback guys, I think we might try and shoot for Basement Jaxx, potentially skip Kraftwerk (unfortunately doesn't sound like the vibe from the research I've done so far, not a stain on their pioneering though, appreciate what they've done for the genre).

One of the most I don’t know really the very best way to put it
Kraftwerk -> Portishead -> Prince 2008
I am ready for the 2025 version haha. It was kind of Kratfwerk (along with Beth Gibbons and Darkside) at the 2025 lineup did it for me as I was looking for more yesterday lol.
Edm: Skrillex, Rufus Du Sol, Romy, Lane 8 (but I can see him on quasar)
R&B: Tiller, Partynextdoor, Brent Faiyaz
Rap: Playboi Carti, Lithe (can also be moody r&b)
Singers: Sampha
I would have taken basically anyone else from the Just Like Heaven top lines of the past years in the Miike Snow spot. He's fine, but Empire of the Sun, War on Drugs, Passion Pit, MGMT are more fun

I actually think Kraftwerk (huge inforoo guys) will see this as a stain on their pioneering, but that's ok. They cant be perfect pioneers.

I mean if you are the first, the absolute pioneers, you will generally always retain some level of relevance.

Caribou, Soulwax, Fontaines, Magdalena are the 4 I thought were realistic. Totally thought Soulwax was a lock. As someone else said, would've loved to see at least 1 more act from either of the past couple of JLHs.

Does Beth sing portishead songs in her sets or?
She does Roads.
Edit: she also did The Rip once

Tell Me Who You Are Today Burden of Life Floating on a Moment Rewind For Sale Mysteries (Beth Gibbons & Rustin Man cover) Lost Changes Oceans Tom the Model (Beth Gibbons & Rustin Man cover) Beyond the Sun Roads (Portishead song) Reaching Out
