Blink and No Doubt were co-headliners their night, which is why I pointed out I don’t think NIN plays in those spots.
Blink headlined, says so on the poster. Closing is not always headlining. Did Calvin headline when he closed last year after Blackpink? No. Plenty of examples of the same in the past.
I think it’s time for more of the indie bands to make a statement on the lineup again. Tired of having these one off festivals that goldenvoice do. They can only recycle so many times at these one day shows and these bands haven’t played Coachella in years
“Stop paying us a shitload of money to play 40 minute sets on a Saturday in SoCal, and asking us to do it again every few years. Please instead put us on your flagship festival lineup, and schedule us against Rihanna, Fisher, and Lil Yachty.”
-the indie bands
yeah, i was at just like heaven and i feel like bands like two door, phoenix, passion pit are probably so much happier playing main stage at an indie-sleaze fest, instead of a half empty Mojave at 4 pm.
i think our best bet in getting indie back at coachella is a tiktok led indie resurgence

Blink was playing anyways and got bumped to headliner along with OMG TBA to make up for Frank bailing. Wouldn’t say they were flat out THE headliner in that situation.

It’s already happening. Indie IS getting back on the lineups, just not of the 00’s indie sleaze variety us old heads reminisce over. It’s gonna be stuff like Artemas, Wisp, The Marías, Fontaines D.C., Snow Strippers and others, not Just Like Heaven artists.

The wise thing IMO would be to sprinkle in the JLH era acts alongside those. I agree generally - I’d personally call out Wet Leg and Last Dinner Party as the two acts that really capture that era’s sound and are blowing up - but that just says to me that having one or two of the classic bands of the era would pull it all together better.
I actually don’t know who Artemas, Wisp, or Snow Strippers are but will check them out.

Blink wasnt playing Weekend 2 til Frank dropped. Omg Tba was supposed to be in the Sahara and they turned lemons into lemonade with the Ice Rink sitting there to be used. Again, check the poster, whose name is on there for Sunday W2. Its Blink.

All the small font acts that played early at Kilby Block Party are ones to check out too.

Snow Strippers are going to rock in the Sonora next year. Also reminded this morning how much I'd love a Ratatat return next year, never caught them when they were active.

Y’all got any hopefuls from EDC? Personally praying for more DnB next year. A WORSHIP B4B Sahara closer would be wild, maybe separate sets from Dimension and Sub Focus. That John Summit collab is def gonna be top played of the EDM circuit this year judging by the reaction and all the edit IDs of it already.

Returning To The Desert John Summit(5 sets)
I know a lot of people thought his set was mid, but W2 was really good and the energy was great. Was surprised at the lack of frat energy there (as opposed to EA). I would love for him to return at some point in the future (just obviously not next year or the year after).

He is def gonna be the next Diplo/Dillon Francis/DJ Snake in terms of how much he pops up on the lineup every 2-3 years

OMG TBA is listed in the No Doubt spot on the poster. And that’s been my point to begin with. The formula of having a legacy headliner, Blink or No Doubt, followed by a newer or currently popular headliner, OMG TBA or Tyler, is working well.
I also thought OMG TBA had a larger crowd than Tyler and as big of a crowd as Blink. All three had smaller crowds than No Doubt.
And if you wanna say OMG TBA wasn’t a headliner but in the Calvin Harris spot, well that clown had the second biggest crowd of these four names. They’re all headliners.

Which part of theyre not on the poster at all did you miss. Thats why they printed 2 posters and one has Blink 182 for W2 listed as a headliner.

For a while on the Past Lineups page of the site the 2023 poster was like a GIF that would switch between Frank Ocean and Blink 182 for the Sunday headliner. Now it just says Frank Ocean same as the physical poster on the walkway to the entrance of the fest this year. They want to make W2 people forget we didn’t get Frank Ocean
