i’m bored so i’m going to stir the pot today… i wouldn’t be surprised if drake was a headliner next year. feels like we’re trending that way with tyler from canceled lineups > j cole and 21 > kendrick and keem > posty … i think drake is next
I was really surprised and happy with how open and transparent they were with me and Sharla. Here was the notes I took on stuff that stood out to me.
They seem to be giving Fred and his team license to do just about anything that they want. Which in theory would include doing an in-the-round setup if they want. Since this is an exclusive, they seem to want to go the extra mile to make it something really special on Sunday night. That time slot wasn't accidental.
They almost put together a "Roo Museum" in town at a building they almost bought, they were going to take old stuff and put it on display there. I didn't get to mention this, but I may actually know someone in town who can help make that happen eventually.
They're about to start focusing more on the few things that do really work in the camps. House of Yes, WITW, Groop, etc. Other things will have perhaps a lesser focus and will be rotating around every year. Also Brad said he'd get us a water station at WITW.
Groop mostly moved because of traffic logistics. They're looking at adding to it and growing it in the coming years.
They have a guy who has a laser focus on improving ADA. Brad didn't go into specifics about some of the issues of recent years but implied that they're leaning on that guy to tell them what they need to fix.
I asked in a very careful way if it would be silly to expect Tame doing a 10 year anniversary show next year, Brad's answer was "it makes a lot of sense." Which isn't a yes, but was more than enough for me.
it is strange how people seem to love bass music at bonnaroo but every couple years they are like "lets try booking a bunch of house instead".
i know PL has a unique appeal but i feel like a bunch of bass artists would've complemented him better than artists like oliver heldens. i'm not complaining, personally i'm happy to have some more house, just saying its an odd choice.
This confused me so much cause they went the house route in 2022 and had terrible sales, they book a great opening night of bass and then some in 2023 and it sells out only to go back to commercial edm and house this year when you book pretty lights? That doesn’t make sense to me. I love house too but they could’ve done a little bit better w booking it and balanced the whole edm portion more.
I like that Roo hasn't sold out into being an EDM fest. It's been firmly eclectic since losing the jam centrality in the late aughts. So just like expecting a full sampling of bluegrass or pop isn't realistic, it's not realistic with EDM either.
Bonnaroo was my gateway drug into EDM and since then they've always brought around a handful of good acts (enough to program a whole stage the whole time) each year. Also, just like with other genres, they do a good job booking up and comers.
Jessica Audiffred for instance is a female dubstep artist from Mexico. P cool.
i agree with this and am similar in that i discovered EDM and my love for it through Bonnaroo. and now i'd say House is my favorite genre because of '22. i think they do the best they can with artist availability without having the same electronic lineup over and over again, and they tend to complement and lean into side projects while somewhat balance it out with the use of WITW. although it does seem some years they lean way too into it one way or the other, it's still a place for great discovery imo. i always come out with a new favorite artist who i wouldn't have bothered looking into anyway (last year was Apashe for me).

also Daniel you have any sleeper acts you're really excited for?
I am gonna be the biggest hypeman ever for Mdou Moctar. I was almost as bummed to lose them as we did Tame that one year.
They are a perfect combination of so many things for me. Psych Rock, World Music, and they're also the perfect example of the kind of thing I want to highlight with the international exchange program we'll eventually do with our non profit.

Damn they got so much spotlight for the lineup leak I forgot that they didn't end up performing. I'm looking forward to that set as well.

Would be cool to have the roo museum at the farm. New attendees could see what it used to be like and might have more appreciation. There was a basically empty barn (plaza 8 maybe) last year that it could go in.

down for this as long as one of the exhibits is actually john bell from widespread panic just doing acoustic "driving song" whenever anybody walks in
"So Bright" is such a sick and supremely confident way to open a show.

What a dope time to be alive! The electronic revolution! pL is like the Pink Floyd of our generation! Blessings to all earth
never been more jazzed up about an act at Roo as I am PL this year. All time EDM act for me that I thought I'd missed out on seeing, now at the Farm getting shown all the respect in the world that he deserves. Going in with sky high expectations that I fully expect to be exceeded in every way.
One of the things I am looking forward to on Thursday night is the reaction of people who had no idea what's coming.
I think people who haven't been plugged in this last Fall don't know that "Pretty Lights" is essentially a full jam band at this point that are doing things that nobody else besides maybe STS9 even dreamed about.

This would be really cool. One of the things that I saw at Coachella years ago was that they had the lineups from every year blown up and put on display in a case on tall poles. Walking down the line and looking at all the lineups from previous years was really cool. Roo could easily do that. May make people feel some kind of way with how much the lineup focus has changed and shifted over the years. But I would like to see that.
