Let's not fall into the "is this a sport" trap. These are all sports and that's why they're in the sports survivor
would love to hear how winning gold in gymnastics is closer to winning a baseball game than winning the oscars.
I feel like you're confusing "game" and "sport" sport: an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment.
time to get gymnastics out of the paint. not practical to play and people only care about it for 4 days every 4 years
that's still more than anyone cares about rugby or lacrosse
Rugby is great and I'm often surprised it hasn't grown more in the US. It moves fluidly like soccer but has lots of action and scoring like American football. Should be a best-of-both-worlds situation.

Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
also, competition-level gymnastics takes more skill, precision, agility, and body strength than half the sports on this list, if not more. discussions of voting it out when golf, lacrosse and rugby are still here is preposterous.

I love golf. It does suck that it’s so expensive, but it’s a great individual game and mentally challenging sport. It also has spawned mini golf, disc golf, top golf, & foot golf which are just as fun but generally more affordable. The major tournaments have produced some iconic moments.
Also, people talk about the land the courses use up as if it wouldn’t just be bulldozed and turned into apartment complexes if not for the courses. I think courses serves as nice pseudo-nature preserves.

with all due respect to golf lovers, how is it mentally challenging? like, i get you have to gauge how hard to hit and at what angle in context of how close you are to the hole, but...is that really an exercise in mental fortitude?

what about the ethics of stopping girls from going through puberty to be better gymnasts?

I’ve never played but it’s mostly mental from what I can tell. I don’t care it’s still boring.

golf is generally regarded as one of the more mentally challenging sports. Aside from the strategy elements of shots, it takes a lot of mental endurance to be able to hit 70+ shots in a row without letting one mistake ruin the round. There tends to be a lot of compounding mistakes by even high level professionals who can’t let go of mistakes on prior holes. Takes a lot of focus, resilience, and discipline.

none of my comment negated that dark side of things.
theres also a dark side to the modern reality of most every popular sport. dont get me started on football and its ruining of countless young men via brain injuries.

Rugby is great and I'm often surprised it hasn't grown more in the US. It moves fluidly like soccer but has lots of action and scoring like American football. Should be a best-of-both-worlds situation.

thats not the q tho. dancing requires all of those things more than 90% of the stuff on this list too
Soccer probably deserves to be top 4. I'd much rather watch hockey but soccer is more accessible to play and it's a rite of passage for any toddler sized kid.

Let's not pretend american football isn't just rugby but more boring and with dumber rules.

It’s a shame being a Gamecock made you hate football this much. It’s really a fun sport.

I always figured it was more of living abroad for 10 years and collectively no one outside the States ever giving a shit or saying anything good about american football, but yeah having graduated from South Carolina has made me a bit jaded. Same with my proximity NFL teams being the Panthers and Falcons.

complete sport of the bourgeoisie fwiw
Rugby's roots are bougie, but it hasn't been that way for a long time.
TL; DR:While rugby’s historical roots and associations with prestigious institutions have contributed to its perception as an elitist sport, contemporary efforts to promote inclusivity and accessibility have made the sport more diverse and accessible to a broader range of individuals. However, misconceptions and stereotypes perpetuated by popular culture and media representations continue to impact public perceptions of rugby as an elitist sport.
There are also 7's rugby and rugby league, both of which are offshoots of what most folks think of when they think of rugby, and which defy that stereotype.
Anyway, I have no doubt rugby's going to go early, but I think it's great and I think more people would if they gave following it a shot, thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

They have games in England, Mexico, Brazil and Germany and previously in Canada. They've also held preseason games in Sweden, Spain, Japan and probably a couple more. But I do agree with your general apathy with your proximity to the Panthers and Falcons, two of the worst franchises in modern American sports.

And the people in those countries make fun of the people that go to the games. Murder them even.
did you know that Tony Hawk himself wanted the first game to be a downhill racer, but the developers at Neversoft had to convince him the trick combo-based game we got was a better idea? Tony eventually got his wish with Downhill Jam, which happened to be the worst selling game in the entire series

I had a kick ass time playing the DS version of this game

I actually don't believe I knew that. A moment of horrible judgement from Mr. Hawk.
