A top 15-20 state in the union, easily. Gonna be denigrated a lot by people who can't be bothered to leave the Ohio River Valley unless it's to go to a festival. Portland is one of the great small cities, Acadia is a top 10 National Park, the seafood is top notch, the northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail on Mount Katahdin is breathtaking.
Not a lotta musical production, though. Weakened Friends is good.
I'm voting 5 here because you guys fucked up with a bunch of other states in the 6-11 range, which is where Maine actually belongs
Only going to speak to my personal experience but the final state of my six month trek on the AT was Maine. Crossing the border from New Hampshire was a very powerful feeling. The state is absolutely wild in the way one would hope. Moose encounters. Some bears. And loons. Nothing beats camping on the banks of one of its many lakes and drifting asleep to the call of the loons. Just pure wilderness with the tiniest little settlements you could barely call towns. After a month of traversing the state and finishing on Katahdin in Baxter State Park, I traveled down to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park, both picturesque to say the least. Then traveled along the coast for a few days before ending in Portland to fly home.
This is my personal favorite state. Because of the isolation and sparseness of it, I wouldn't say it is the "best" state as it isn't for everyone. I would say it should he a shoo-in for top 5 here considering how late in the game it is. I would place it at 2 but I will settle for 5.

I need more podcasts of your adventures. You make me want to abandon my life and become a thru-hiker, no joke

I spent 3 months in Maine for my internship. I cooked at a resort on the water. I wasn’t near Portland and Montreal was too far as well. I read. I made lists. I listened to crappy dubbed cassettes. Most of all I cooked. Honing my cutting skills and not looking at clocks so I wouldn’t be depressed. I hated Chef. I hated the people that stayed there. It really gave me a reason to just be in solitude and learn what I was supposed to and get the fuck out.
I walked out of that 3 months realizing that I didn’t wanna cook professional. For that, Thank You, Maine. You’re gorgeous but lower tier but made me realize I was making a bigger mistake than joining the Coast Guard.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
