I have been reading a bunch about the heat and I am just curious as to how hot it actually gets. I was at Coachella when it was 113 degrees a few years ago, but it is dry desert heat. I can handle the dry sh*t, it Is the humidity that kills me? Lollapalooza last year was crazy and I am just wondering what I should be in store for at my first Bonnaroo.
and just for fun let's compare the heat like the following...
It can get to be just as bad as Lolla was last year (I attended as well), or it can be cloudy and in the upper 70's low 80's like it was last year for a good part of the weekend. It's all up to mother nature. Just be prepared for everything.
It can get as hot as the sun. Last year on thursday and friday it couldnt have possibly been hotter than it was. Non-stop sweating and non stop water drinking will be in full effect
Yeah, it'll cool off. The last few nights here have been pretty warm until about 10 or 11, and then you just need a long-sleeve of some sort. Maybe a light fleece, for good measure.
Anyway, I had a friend whose girlfriend passed out at Lollapalooza last year and she was almost going to join us at Roo this year. I casually discouraged it strongly, because the heat definitely has the potential to become more overbearing than some of those crazy Chicago days. I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, so am very familiar with just how bad the humidity can be. That said, it was about as bad as I've ever experienced at Roo 2004. You WILL get used to it, so don't fret -- but it's hard to deal with at first. After setting up our tent in 2004, I thought I was going to die. Literally, I had accepted my fate and was going to die lying next to my car, in a small patch of shadow, sipping a Bud Light. Luckily I came to my senses and made a little shade for myself and managed to cool down.

Oh yes indeedy it will be HOT. Especially if there are no clouds, that sun just kills you. I still think the first roo felt the hotest (it rained for about a minute on Sunday or Saturday) - but I could be wrong. Now what really got me was how damn cold I got last year in the evening. I remember saturday night sitting on the field listening to widespread just uncomfortable as hell. I'm sure it had something to do with being soaking wet - but still damn I was cold.
To compare - it's as hot as working in a restaurant kitchen during the height of the summer with no a/c.
I'm used to the heat growing up in this region, but even still - it's friggin hot!
And it's not dry heat. It's the humidity. I went to Arizona a couple of years ago, and it was pretty hot during the day. BUT, the difference there is that they have dry heat. I could actually sit in the shade and while it was still hot, it wasn't as bad.
Around here, the humidity is what gets you. It doesn't matter if you're in the sun (which is worse, of course) or in the shade. The friggin AIR is hot. It's thick, muggy, and you'll sweat just sitting down in the shade.
I watched DMB in my flannel pjs last year, but I'm a wimp and get cold easily. The heat Thursday was the worst I had ever felt, though, and I thought I was going to die.
ok here in NJ the last 5 days it has been 88-93 deg and 60-90 % humidity.. I work outside, on a roof or in a boiler room (today that was 110 deg) I'm a HVAC Tech...
Thats hot esp when working.....So can it be that bad sitting and hanging out in shorts and a t-shirt?
What do you all do for a living? I don't even have AC in my house...And I think NJ gets kinda hot and humid...sometimes

Today in SF, the mercury topped out at a scorching 67 degrees. But when the sun was coming through my office window, it felt like 69! I thought of closing the blinds, but decided to tough it out. So maybe you're right that some of us are more finicky (whiney?) about our comfort. But you're also right that all people at Roo have to do is relax and enjoy the vibe.
When there are no clouds and the sun is bearing down on your azz, at about 2:00 PM, in the middle of june, in middle tn, usa, on a cow farm, with the temperature in the upper 90's, and the humidty matching it number for number..............
it hot as hell.....the best thing to do is drink as much as you can during the day and stay in the sun........dont bring any lotion.......actually, I like to go under the misting tents when I start to have to much to drink and too much sun....it really cooled me off the last 2 year.....hey dont just remember to drink water, but gator ade, power ade and other juices help too
On Friday in 04' I couldn't even see YMSB cause i was sweating so bad. I actually ended up getting 2nd degree burns on my face and neck because it was so hot...and because i didn't put sun screen on right away. I'll never forget to do that again.

I hate you.
Did someone already say that it's hot? Cause it is.
Last year on Thursday at about noon, my friend ended up dumping the melted water in the cooler on himself, moaning in ecstacy.
The same morning, my other friend tried to go back to sleep in the tent, after I had told him it would be impossible. He persisted to try, only to emerge 10 minutes later soaked in sweat. That seemed like one of the hottest days of my life.

'Hate the sin and not the sinner' is a precept which, though easy enough to understand, is rarely practicsed (sic), and that is why the poison of hatred spreads in the world." -Ghandi
i personally thought last year was so nice. we got there on thursday evening as the sun was going down though. it did get really hot in the mornings, but the rain took care of that. i was also cold when the sun went down and i was still soaking wet. i'll be bringing a hoody
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**

I grew up in Jersey and worked outside in the summer (granted not on a hot tar roof) and have to say it's a good deal worse down here in TN. The humidity really spikes, it hangs out at 95-99F for most of the day, there's not much of a breeze, but the worst is the sun. You wouldn't think that ~600 mi S would be that much difference but it is. The sun beats down ALL DAY LONG, you don't even have that light NJ haze to break it up. We didn't have AC in at home in jersey, and w/ the exception of a couple of nights a summer it wasn't that bad. I couldn't even imagine not having it down here. The heat really, really sucks. If you're light skinned, bring lots of the SPF 40+.
last year was the mildest bonnaroo they've had b/c of the constant cloud cover all weekend. being a tennesseean I am used to unbearable heat after 20 years living in this state, but it's still hot as hell when the sun is shining. Bonnaroo is a much drier heat than in west tennesse though, so there's at least that. It also gets very COOL at night, so be prepared for a big temperature swing as the night wears on.
I would say it will probably be high 80s to low 90s 100% humidity until it rains of course The one thing I can say do is drink plenty of water, this is very important. i saw a handful of people pass out in crowds last year one person at the first show on Friday.
i kinda blacked out during the allman brothers last year. we stood up as they came on and my frieind leanna was like "dude look at that!" and i was like "ohhhh shit i definitely can't see the stage.... and now the crowd is fading out.... i need to sit down"
after i sat there for a second i was ok, but my friend justin and I still left the middle of the crowd to get some food.
we also lost leanna for rest of the night, when we got back to the campsite late at night we found her in the tent (she had as much of a great time as us that night)

It's gonna max out at a beautiful 82 in Mid TN today as I get ready to ride my bike this morning. Will probably be 98 in two weeks. One thing about TN weather, if you don't like it today, wait till tommorrow.
I just want a roo without rain. I'll deal with the heat. I'm tired of the mud.
