I made the mistake of going back to the campsite for a nap and being too tired to walk back down again for Radiohead...... Never again - next time I am napping in Centeroo.
I was parked way out near Pod 13 and missed Praxis a couple of years ago. I stay in Centeroo all day now, no matter where I'm parked.
The is no magic time for getting there and getting a close spot. I say this with all honesty having arrived at every Bonnaroo at various times from Friday in the first year, to thursday morning the second year, to thursday at 2 am in 04, to Wednesday night in 05 (last year I went VIP). They fill up alot of the "longer walk" campgrounds first, then fill up the center of the campground. The camps way out at the edges are for people show up late on friday/saturday. The spot you get is primariliy predicated on what time you arrive but ALSO how many people have arrived before you. Every year, more and more people show up wednesday night, so the timeframe for the good spots changes every year.
The only true way to guarantee you will get a close spot is to #1. go VIP, #2. go Tent Only. The other way to do it is to move your camp after everything settles in, but that is hard to do with the mounties watching traffic all day thursday.

vip and tent only is the only way to guarantee a close spot. however the last 3 years we have taken an RV and if u are coming in thursday morning u will get a good spot. However if u come in w/ and rv thursday night/friday morning u will be stuck at the outer edges. So we never had a crappy spot w/ an rv.
a good idea if u get a crappy spot is to bring an EZ up and some chairs to the tent only section. This way u have a place to chill and relax w/o having to trek all the way back to your campsite. My first year our neighbors did just this they also took a small tent and put a cooler inside the tent and had a kind of half way house if u will.......good luck
if i'm going to camp in tent only do i really need to care about where i'm parked? except for having to haul my gear to and from bfe? we're planning on driving most of the way on wednesday and then driving the last hour or so on thursday morning....

So given the work situation, I'll be leaving from Chicago right after work on Thursday (5 PM), maybe a little early if possible, and, hopefully, arriving at the site between midnight and 1 AM. Anyone have any idea what the camping situation for late Thursday night/early Friday morning arrivals has been in the past?

You'll be in the Boonies, but probable not in BFE. The early (before the official time) folks usually get the crappiest spots in BFE. Then they fill from Centeroo outward, unless you come in the back way on Bushy Branch. By Friday morning they're near the property borders for many campers.
Any chance we could set up camp in tent only on Friday morning if we are in the boonies... or will all of that space be gone by then?
there will still be space. it looked like there were still spots saturday afternoon. and we were parked 30 feet from the tent only fence. anout 150 feet from inforoo camp and there was a lot of open space around us. so even if tent only did happen to fill up you could still get really close.
Is there anyone out there who got in late night Thursday last year that remembers what camp they were in?
Also...long shot but will they let you drive your stuff over to tent only and drop it off before you park your car?
The latest I got there on thursday was 04 after waiting on the interstate for a few hours it was 10.30 we were put in camp Fred which is now camp Mugatu, by the siloh. Keep getting there earlier every year and jkeep getting closer this year we got there at 5 or 6 and was in Hans Solo.

So if I'm coming in late night Thursday/early morning Friday will I be able to enter from I-24 westbound (the entrance off I-24 closest to Wal-Mart, etc. or do they close that entrance? Is that the better place for me to enter? I'm afraid that if I enter at Bushy Branch Road, they'll put me way out in BFE near Mustafa, etc.
I'm probably going to go tent-only anyway, but I'm lazy as hell and I don't want to lug all my stuff for 4 miles.
If you come through Nashville and can get off at Exit 111/112 you can get there early and be up close as they MAY start filling up the front from that exit.
If you come through Chattanooga and get off at Brushy Branch and get there early they will usually fill up BFE first from that entrance.
Of course one year they closed all exits and made everyone go through Brushy Branch. Another time my sister and I were not camping together but were only 3-4 cars apart. I ended up right across from tent only and she was in BFE 45 minutes walk away.
Traffic on the Interstate is controlled by TN Hwy Patrol and they can do as they like. I think they may manipulate traffic (close specific exits) during peak traffic but it is a spur of the moment thing (or at least seems so from our perspective. ) B-roo usually has all entrances open but will direct you to the one to use depending what area(s) they are filling at the moment.
Of course I always try and get there before 8am Thursday.
Last yr we got in line about 4am and just as we thought we were doing good and gonna get in the main gates they started sending us down the bushy branch rd, i was kinda mad cause i had heard what everyone else has about getting sent down that road. Luckily we were in an Rv and got a really sweet spot but as for our friends in cars they got the shaft and were put out in BFE. It seemed like when the traffic started getting heavy is when they opened up bushy branch...but who knows, it also seems to change the way they do it every year too. I'm not sure what time we'll go in this year.
I don't remember what time I got there last year....I think 5-ish and I wasn't far out at all really...not the front but not like a 40 min walk or anything....like 10 min. maybe. We used that made up exit ...111 I think

Hey fellow 'Roo people! I am new to Bonnaroo and I will be driving up from Jackson, MS to Nashville on Wednesday... From what I gather so far sometimes mid morning-early afternoon Thursday is the best time to get there... Any advice on directions from Nashville to Bonnaroo as to what exits would be the best to take?
Okay, so here's what I've deciphered: Exit 111 is the main Bonnaroo exit. Bushy Branch Road is a back way and in the past has put people in BFE. Exit 112 is a makeshift exit on the highway.
So questions: Is Exit 112 definitely handicapped? Can you get turned away if you aren't handicapped? How do you get to Exit 112 coming from Nashville (east-bound)?

We got there after 9 and had a great parking spot for our RV. Hoping we can get something similar this year without the RV and just regular car parking/camping

Exit 112 is definitely not handicapped only. It's the only way I've ever entered the site in the 3 years I've been.
Comming eastbound there's no way to take Exit 112. The only way I can think of to get to the exit is go down a few exits and turn around and come back. Having never done this I'm not really sure how feasable it is.
if thats the one going right off the highway into bonnaroo then yes. i would recomend aiming to get there around 1 or 2 when a lot of peopel are going. from what ive heard pretty much anytime oyu come through that entrance oyu will be camped close to centeroo
yea it will take 2 and a half or 3 hrs to get there and i plan on leaving no later than 9 am thursday. i want to be in and setup no later than 2 pm. this exit sounds the best though, as you just get right off the interstate onto the roo grounds.

Exit 112--the non-exit exit on WB I-24--landed us with a 35-40 min walk last year after we got in line at 8:30 a.m. Thursday. Strategize if you like, but except for the Bushy Branch = BFE theory, everything I have read suggests that the crap-shoot mantra is accurate.
