Okay I know everyone wants to now this and nobody really knows the answer, but...
I want to arrive at roo in time to be able to camp close to the site or in the tent only area...but i read on here that if you arrive early, they put you in the back of the camp...
so what time should i arrive?!
ps i didn't know where to post this so if it needs to be moved, that is perfectly fine!
do not use bushy branch road. if you come in the roo exit off of 24 (the highway)around 7am on thursday you will be good. the last 2 years thats what we did and we could see the main stage from camp. and the camp inforoo flag. we could throw a frisbee from the car to tent only.

Thats about as good of a guess as you can make as to when to arrive. It REALLY is different every year and there is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY you can plan an arrival and get parked close.
It really is all just the luck of the draw.
You could always shlep your stuff to tent only, no matter where they park you!
ps: I am moving this one to "That Tent" (logistics)
oh geez well i really hope i get to park close cause i already know i'm going to overpack! i'm giving all of y'all karma points! thanks for all the help! i really don't know what i'd do if i just didn't read these boards and just went--i'd have a heart attack!

Well that's what the board is here for! Really it's a crapshoot, just get there Thursday so you can enjoy the shows that day and if you are far tent only will get you up close if you care to walk with all your shi.t that far. Really though, I've had good times camped in the back and up really close, it's the best weekend of my life every year either way.

I did the same exact thing in 2005 (7am on Thursday) and we were in Guam... I think it's pretty much a crap shoot

I did that in 05 and I ended up right up close around 8 on thurs...in 06 we got pulled out of that line by the cops (too early) but my buds who got there around 7:30ish (when the gate actually was open) were up front too....It is a crapshoot, but I find that Bushy Branch rd makes you end up FAAAAAR away most of the time
ya the cops were telling us to leave too. we told them we were camping in the handicapped section and they said to use that entrance and he said ok went away. if we would have left that line we would have had a huge wait instead of being the 4th car in our lane at the check through.
so get to the gates at 7:30 am? i only live about an hour an a half away from the site (without traffic) i have to go through chattanooga....so i should leave at.........5:30 am? hmmmmmm
I come from Atlanta, so I take I-24 Westbound. I got there around 4 in the afternoon on Thursday. I skipped the exit where they tell everyone to get off for Bonnaroo and takes you the back way and drove straight to the makeshift exit the have on the side of the road. I had no wait, drove straight in and was 5 minutes from Centeroo.
last year we took it at around 10-11am and we ended up camping right near pod 3, right on shakdown street. we could hear and see the main stage from our camp, and were only a 5-10 min walk to centeroo. (depending on traffic)
I usually take the interstate exit 112 try to get there before dark. Have never been more than a twenty minute walk away using this route. Bushy Branch entrance you have an 85%chance of getting put in BFE. BUT, you could get lucky and get a camp spot where you can see the main stage. Plus youll probably run into traffic on Bushy Branch. There have been no lines past two years at exit 112 when I came.
i got there at 6:30 pm last yeat and they had the normal exits closed so we got herded onto /bushy Branch. No line whatsoever, but we were way out in BFE. Though I did kinda enjoy the long stumble back to camp.

For the past 2 years i've left Wed. night at about 11:00pm and been in my campsite by 2:00am. The only thing is, it's the farthest spots to the right "(if looking from overhead). The walk sucks big time and going back to your campsite to take a break isn't an option.
we got there super early last year and were only marginally closer than we were in 05. Being close would be nice but it really is a crap shoot, but when its all said and done the walk to centeroo is never that bad
but when its all said and done the walk to centeroo is never that bad
Oh I beg to differ.
Those poor saps that were stuck out in pods 12 and 13 last year were further away from the site than my house!!
That is one hell of a walk everyday and even worse if you wanna go back to your campsite for a while during the day to get rested for the night shows. Then it doubles the amount of times you have to walk it.
It is very tough heading to Centeroo first thing in the day and trying to stay there until the late shows are over, you really need a place to chill and relax in between.
It really is about how far away you are. that walk is harsh!!
i agree. in 04 we were in camp mushmouth. and it was a hell of a trek. i only saw 8 bands that year. it was certainly "that bad"
not only that but we walked to walmart whihc was about a half mile from where we were in line. but the line started moving and we had a huge walk to catch up with our car. it was almost at the check in gate. i dont know how far it was but it was alot. so we were beat when we got in.

I did the exact same thing, except I think I got there around 2. I had to wait like 45 minutes and was maybe a 5 minute walk from centeroo.
I actually took the exit they told us to get off then I said screw this turned around and got back on the interstate and into the very short line... ;D

For the past tree years we've been traveling from Knoxville,TN (east) and have left at around 8am on Thursday. The first two years we arrived (hwy 55) on site by 12pm and were at our campsite by 1-1:30pm. Last year we followed our regular schedule/route (NO traffic) only to find that the much-less-traveled entrance from Hwy 55 was blocked, causing us to drive all the way to the back of the (standstill) eastbound traffic to enter. We waited in line for about 3 1/2 hours only to be put in the crappiest/most cramped campsite yet. It was not only so rocky that I couldn't even hammer my tent stakes into the ground, but it was a good 35-40 minute walk from Centeroo. Also, it was not only MUCH more over-crowded than many other sites we passed on the way in, but all other sites we've seen(& camped in) over the past couple of years. It was my favorite Roo so far (music & weather), but the camping SUCKED!!!!!!!!!!!

yeah, I was in pod 13 last year, it was about a 50 minute walk. You just have to bring everything you need for the entire day, and take naps in centeroo(better anyways, so you don't sleep for too long). The walk was pretty harsh though.
We drove up from North Florida on Wednesday and spent the night in Tullahoma. In the morning we headed in towards roo @ about 8:30. We hit traffic about 5 miles from roo but since we were already on surface streets there was no highway, etc. and we were able to come in the back way avoiding Bushy Branch Rd. They seemed to really want to keep traffic moving in our area. We got parked near pod 3 and were set up by 11 AM.
Last year I mined this year to get ideas and suggestions. I followed what seemed to be themes - don't try and arrive too early - you end up getting parked way out. Be early but avoid the signage and directions for the 'main flow' of traffic, visit the Walmart parking lot (even if you are not a fan of Walmart) but get a good nights rest somewhere. We had a great time and the walk was under 15 minutes.

holy nuts , a 50 minute walk?????
We were camped out past Pod 11 and it took us about 45 minutes to walk down to Centeroo - it was pretty harsh in that heat. I made the mistake of going back to the campsite for a nap and being too tired to walk back down again for Radiohead...... Never again - next time I am napping in Centeroo.
