Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
as for the phones. someone there would likely let you charge your phone at their car im sure - i would. i take an extra battery with me and if mine dies then i can also switch out batteries if something happens to my charger. you probably know someone with a spare battery
also...i dont use my phone much at roo. mainly i just use it to find people. i dont have a lot of converstations while im there
i ALWAYS take two plastic bags for my phones. ALWAY ALWAYS keep your phone and batteries in at least one plastic bag. trust me.....if you decide to get into the fountain or if you spill something or decide to play in the rain...you will be so happy when you remember that you have your cell phone on you. my cell phone even works through a plastic bag. i can dial and text just fine without taking it out.
Adding my tips and things I was surprised by from last year (my first time). Some of these are probably repeats.
- You will be exhausted by sundown. Learn how to nap anywhere. I think I caught one late night show because I was too pooped by midnight every night to stay up late. - Gold Bond is your best friend. So is Body Glide. Thank the lord for JHo and her monster container of the former - Attach your cooler to something in your campsite with a bike lock (I'm talking to you, dude who stole my cooler full of beer on the eve of my birthday!). Keep money in a couple places, some on you, some hidden at your site, some in your car. For the most part, nobody's going to steal your stuff, but they will if you make it easy for them (mine was the only cooler stolen at our camp because mine was the only one not attached to something else). - There will be mud by the portapotties no matter what. You will step in it. It's okay.
Everything else was as I expected... it's going to be hot, wear comfy shoes (and take multiple pairs), you will be smelly and that's okay, stay hydrated. The things above were the things I didn't expect.
I just went back a few pages and all the links about wookies and the pics gave me a great chuckle.
Last year I had Sprint (an old phone for moi, Blackberry for DH) and we had no trouble with texting, calls, even in Centeroo. However everyone with an iPhone or Verizon was SOL so we didn't use our phones as much as I had expected (we had a group of like 15 folks and planned to text to set up times to meet every so often). No need, you always have a good time at Bonnaroo, even if you never find your friends!

The amount of niceness and camper comeradery . Throw in the professionals that work the event and you as a first timer will be another returning roo goer
Bought ticket for my 1st roo today. Had to check this thread out and the amount of items I would have overlooked had I winged it is amazing. Thank you all for your knowledge! Cant Wait to put it to some good use!!!
I'm a first timer myself, but I can give a handy tip I've picked up. If you feel yourself dozing at the wheel, and you fear you won't make it to the next rest stop, open up your window and hold a $20 out. Hopefully, the fear of dropping it will keep you awake long enough to get to a safe spot where you can take a nap.
[quote/]I hate krystals. I know they're supposed to be about the same, but I have to believe white castle must be better. and I'm still determined to try some [/quote]
white castles are great with the exception of the dry bun at times (usually happens during our 3am trips when they have been sitting under the heat lamps) however be open minded when you first try white castle b/c i pretty much like everything on their menu better than just the plain white castles. you can get the cheeseburger white castles if you want to stick with the original menu item but they also have killer moz cheese sticks, onion petals, and chicken rings or chicken ring sandwhiches

if you buy brand new shoes for 'roo, BREAK THEM IN FIRST!!! the farm is not overtly friendly on feet/footwear. Also, bring me some white castle cheeburgers, i can't get 'em near me in florida. Krystals are def. NOT the same, or even close really.

Very important tip. Also bring more then one pair.

This. It would suck to get your shoes soaking wet and not have anything to put on.
Re: shoes, I like 1 pr of cold rain shoes (waterproof ankle-high hiking boots) and 1 pr of well vented hiking shoes for hot days. I use socks because my feet are skinny and I get blisters easy.
Can anyone comment on the usefulness of sleep meds for Roo? I'm thinking of getting a prescription for 3 pills so I can sleep from 4am to late morning. I'll have plenty of shade to keep me cool, but I want to override my body clock.

I have trouble sleeping at Roo and last year I took Unisom every night. It helped me sleep longer than usual, but still not as much as I needed.....I usually got about 4 hours sleep each night. I will be using it again this year. I am kind of scared of the prescription sleeping pills......
I hear taking melatonin before going to sleep helps for some people. It's OTC. There are several options out there, but be careful to only use them on occasion and watch for side effects, especially if taking other prescriptions.
I'm thinking of just having fans to help drown out little noises and see if that helps. It's what I do at home and sometimes put on SimplyNoise's oscillating brown noise on my computer. (They have a phone app but it's not free) I also can download sleep sounds (like a thunderstorm) on my phone but don't think that'd be enough and it'd drain my battery quickly. Also, many people use ear plugs...but I tried once and couldnt even figure out how to use them, lol!
Anyway, do some research and see whats best for you... taking naps is a very good and common to do throughout the day if you need to stay up late and there are also some methods of staying awake, like 5 Hour Energy. Sometimes though you just gotta listen to your body and take a nap, even if you have to get home later. Better safe than sorry.
I am not a big medication guy, but last year I almost died during a few surprise naps on the drive home.
Maybe i should do a couple trial runs with some over the counter stuff.
That is exactly what I did with Unisom. I don't take medications unless I need to to I wanted to make sure they didn't totally knock me out. They are pretty mild I think compared to most.

Ambien is amazing (I never travel without it), but not advisable to mix with alcohol due to risk of serious respiratory depression (i.e. you might not wake up at all). Probably not an issue with just a drink or few, but if you are seriously throwing down some alcohol and other party favors don't have an ambien nightcap.
Aren't there a lot of people with issues when taking Ambien? I've heard a bunch of dangerous sleep walking issues. Nonetheless, more reason to test it out before Roo.
Ambein works well for people at my work. 12.5mg is a larger dose I would start out with 5mg first. Talk to your doctor and I would try it at home before I experimented with it at Roo. Ellie is right some people reacted different to Ambein then others and sleep walk, which could be cool to witness. Maybe you should wait and try it out on the farm first. Could be fun for all of us watching you sleep walk. On second thought, this is vacation and I am sure my fellow RN's would agree, I do not want to have to work on vacation time. Talk to your doctor.

If your working on getting more sleep try a more agressive task in the day or at the end of the day. Work your job then come home and shovel manure on your garden or some such physical activity like that for at least half as long as your work day is. Works for me

But how does this help at 'roo? I mean it's a farm, manure is probably available and all, but we're talking about sleeping thru the heat and noise of the campground, having gone to sleep at 5 or 6 in the morning...i've have no problems falling asleep, it's staying that way once the next day begins.

Things to bring many extras of:
Lighters - The one you had in your pocket when you pulled up Thursday afternoon will most likely be gone way before friday night. Bringing a pack is great, but having one attached to a keychain on your belt loop or something is the best.
Cigs - You only smoke a half pack a day so two packs should last the weekend right? Wrong. Bring 5 packs, you will most likely be sharing and you know you have at least one friend who will forget his at camp one day and bum 9 of yours.
Shoes - It rains at bonnaroo. That's all there is to say about that.
Napkins - Unless you want your weekend to be bonnaruined, bring some napkins and trashbags so you can properly clean up yourself and your area.
