as far as the centeroo food, one thing I would highly recommend are the samosas - little African turnover thingys filled with a variety of meat and veggie fillings. They are very inexpensive, filling and look to be relatively nutritious.
Those were my favorite discovery last year and they are cheap! I probably won't eat much else this year because they have all different kinds.
How many ppl were completely unprepared for rain. Seriously. It was forecast all week and ppl were still huddled up in corners shivering in a T-shirt and shorts the first night.
This this this. We met 3 young girls at the airport last year on the way there with nothing except their purses. No tent, nothing. They sort of laughed when I asked if that was all they brought; saw them the next day at the fest looking like little wet rats.
So can someone tell me what the real differences are between "tent only" and just putting a tent right next to your car? It seems like to me that everyone would want to pop a tent next to their vehicles so that they could keep stuff locked up? Btw this will be my first year actually camping as ive never stayed overnight before. Id love to just rent an RV but I unfortunately can not find enough friends who want to do so, so it looks like ill be tenting it for the first time
When you camp next to your car, you can be anywhere from a 30 second to 40+ minute walk to centeroo, it's random really. Tent Only is an area right outside of centeroo, very close to the entraces. Many people prefer it for the convenience, cause walking a long ways back to your tent late at night can suck. It's a personal preference, and not for everyone, but I enjoyed it and didn't have anything taken from my campsite.

^^It's pretty easy to slash a tent open and it happens quite often. Personally, I think if you put a padlock on your tent, it just means that you've got something valuable in there. Somewhere on this forum last year, a guy posted a system with a lock box, padlocks, cable, and those dog tie outs. The way he tied it and locked it made it impossible to steal unless you had bolt cutters. I wish I could find that thread.

Ditto. I don't bring anything to Roo that I wouldn't mind parting with. I keep half my money with me at all times and the other half stashed in my tent. That way, unless someone robs me and my tent, I will still have some cash if something happens.
I was paranoid my first year (2008), hearing stories about people getting their stuff stolen, but the only issue we've had with theft in Tent-only was one of our coolers (full of beer) was taken. And it was the only cooler that we didn't have attached to our easy-up with a bike lock.
(On that note, if you bring a wheeled cooler, I highly suggest attaching it to your easy-up with a bike lock. That way, someone can't just walk off with it... well, they can, but it'll take some extra effort.)

Exactly. I was in BFE last year and I didn't mind the walk to Centeroo every morning. Definitely beats worrying about your stuff in Tent Only and having to lug all your crap on Thursday and then back on Sunday. Just save $20 and catch a taxi back to your tent at the end of the night on each day when you're dead tired.

If you're not in Tent Only, lock your valuables in your car; it's really quite simple. You shouldn't be bringing anything (other than cash, obviously) that you wouldn't want damaged or stolen.
Last year I stayed in the Wal-mart parking lot in Manchester on Wednesday and got in line around 9am on Thursday, the line took about 4-5 hours maybe, and another hour or more to get parked and pull crap out and make our way over to Tent Only, and we still found several free spots. I know people who got in line earlier than I did and somehow it took them 8 hours to get into Bonnaroo, so it's kind of a crapshoot I think.
Would you suggest arriving early Thursday morning and getting in line. Or taking a night -ie Wednesday- to sleep and arriving 10ish?
There's always a debate about this. My understanding is that they will usually let people into the camping areas on Wednesday night but you'll end up in BFE. I've arrived on Thursday morning both years and was parked about 20-30 minutes away from Centeroo.
Also, If im looking to camp in tent only should i arrive as early as possible, or does it take a bit to fill up?
I think it depends. In 2008, there was plenty of room in tent-only up until Friday midday. Last year, it seemed rather full by late afternoon/early evening on Thursday. But that could just be near where I was camped. Arriving early never hurt anyone!

It was def nearly full late Thursday afternoon around 6ish. We had to sleep right next to the ice truck. Which was actually kind of nice because we never got lost and the noise of the generator put me to sleep every night.

I am a bit confused about something. If you camp in tent only do you park in a designated area or just wherever you would otherwise be directed to - but just not set up in that spot and haul your stuff?

samosas for sure!!!! ate those for breakfast lunch and dinner.
i had a friend that lost his wallet one year. we went to the lost and found tent to see if anyone turned it in. not only did someone turn it in, but all of his money and stuff was still in it. he immediately yelled SAMOSAS FOR EVERYONE!!!!

Shakedown is fun but don't try to poop there. The rv area is much better and MUCH cleaner. Those people use their own built in toilets. Take tp. Seriously. Take tp. No matter what you think, drink water. It's better to pee in a crowd than pass out in the pit. The best trees are actually at the venue. Sleep there. Or the movie tent.
I will vouch for both the earplugs and the battery powered fan. They both saved my life. I have specially made earplugs that block out pretty much everything and I used them. Slept like a friggin' baby until the sun came out (I bought an EZ-up for this year to avoid that!)

Fans are a great idea but they def didn't help me sleep any longer. This year, I am def buying a cot to set under the ez up to catch a few more minutes of sleep. Tents are just way too stifling in that early morning heat.

Was last year cooler weather than normal? Because it was my first Roo and everyone was going on about how hot TN is in summer...blah blah blah...and I didn't find it hot at all. Other than the rain, the temperature was practically perfect for me. So I was surprised.
Was this an aberration or am I just heat resistant?

Last year was not as steamy as it has been in previous years. It was pretty comfortable most of the time - until I was stuck in the sun for hours at Snoop Dog.....

Last year was the coolest Roo ever (no exaggeration). Normally it's at least 10 degrees warmer and the heat index can be more than that. Don't let it fool you into not planning for the heat this year.
