You should never get into an argument at Bonnaroo, it can really kill the mood. Disagreements are fine, if its late at night and your friends want to see a show and you want to see another, dont argue about it, just meet up with them later. Negative energy at Bonnaroo sucks.
Karma 4 u. Completely agree. Half of our group last year wanted to walk 1 mph while the other half wanted to just get to Centeroo and start experiencing everything. Ended up in a few bitter feelings as we missed a show because we tried to stay together. Then on Saturday, a couple in the group got split up and the girl got really mad at him for not looking for her while he was enjoying the hiphop (Lupe, Talib, Chali 2na, tent on Sat night). Really wish I would've just left and not had to witness or be a part of that vibe killing experience.
Last year was my fifth Roo. I had never experienced any form of theft or seen anything like it. Last year while i was taking a nap under my shade tent with my wallet and keys inside my raincoat pockets my raincoat got stolen along with all my money and car keys. Later that night my friend left his sunglasses out and they were also stolen.
It sucks, but its become part of what goes on there. Lock your stuff up, be smart, not like me, and you'll be fine.
~I have a couple of pieces of advice for 'Roo rookies, but I will lead off with my single most important piece of Bonnaroo survival gear: A COMPASS. Not because you will get lost, but because having a compass when you park your car will allow you to determine which way is EAST. If you orient your camp so that your shade pavilion and shade hanging (indispensable for any good campsite) are all on the eastern side, and all your tents and sleeping quarters are on the WESTERN side, then you will delay the murderous Bonnaroo morning sun by a good three hours.
Other tips...
~I have to politely disagree with the people who suggest wasting $20+ a day on vendor food. I have been to Bonnaroo four times now, and have found that with just a little prior planning and an investment in a good cooler, you can take and prepare LOTS of good food and save yourself some money. Feel free to message me if you want suggestions...
~If you come to the InfoRoo brunch and happen to see some chocolate chip cookies laying about...don't make the mistake of thinking they are normal.
~Gatorade or anything else that restores electrolytes and sodium will be CRUCIAL to getting your morning off to a good start.
~Try and see at least one sunrise. If this means starting your day later, or taking a power nap in the evening, go for it. Late-Night 'Roo is the way to go, and seeing the Farm @ 6am as in the above picture, is priceless.
~Bring your OWN copy of the schedule to have at camp. They do hand out info books, but have also been known to run out.
~Sanuks are the greatest footwear on the face of the earth and seem custom built for Bonnaroo.
~Pirate flags just BEG to be stolen. It's lame that anyone would steal at 'Roo, but it happens. Use any other flag to mark your campsite.
~A single well packed backpack can take the place of three or four purses or handbags.
~Don't carry your wallet, you don't need it. Just find a safe way to carry your cash for the day.
~Never leave your tent open to the elements. TN weather can change in a blink, and the last thing you want to come back to after an evening shower is a soaking wet tent.
~Early in the AM is best time to hit the Porta-Potties.
~A small battery powered fan to keep the air moving in your tent at night is a wonderful, wonderful thing.
"We're no longer called Sonic Death Monkey. We're on the verge of becoming Kathleen Turner Overdrive, but just for tonight, we are Barry Jive and his Uptown Five. "
I brought food to eat everyday last year, and returned home with almost all of it... I like to save up a little extra cash and buy food where ever it's sold. I found that I felt forced to go back to my site to eat, and it often dictated my scheduling!
I was lying in a burned out basement With the full moon in my eyes. I was hoping for replacement When the sun burst thru the sky. There was a band playing in my head And I felt like getting high.

I'm sure most people know that there is a lot of history behind the stealing of the pirate flags.......and it goes back hundreds of years.
I bought some sanuks based on carp's recommendations. I love them but I wore them to a 3 hour show last night and my feet were killing me afterwards. I'm not sure if I could handle a whole day in them.

Beware the brunch cookies. In 05 I bought some "abnormal" Rice Krispies treats from a nice couple who was selling them at bargain basement prices because they were leaving. I had 2 er em. Big mistake. At WSP I could barely stand or move around. The lack of sleep and fatigue compounded with the treats made me wish I hadn't eaten them.
I'm driving alone this year... the only thing i'm worried about is the drive home. Probably I'll have to stop and take a nap at a rest stop! Please Please Please DON'T UNDERESTIMATE THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING A RESTED DRIVER. BE SAFE.
Last year my friends and I packed 5 into my dad's mini van for the long haul from Connecticut. We were so jam packed when they opened the side door for the search, some stuff came tumbling out. As a result we were hardly checked. They probably didn't want to deal with getting all our stuff back in!
be careful dude, its good to see that you understand the importance of a good rest. I drive an Ambulance, And have learned much from my father who was once a Truck Driver.
Dont follow the lane lines of the road. You'll tend to get mesmerized by them and can quickly start to doze.
You probably have a 17 hour drive at least, I'm from Longisland and its around 15.5 with no stops. The ability to take an hour nap is wonderful. give yourself plenty of time. I'd tell ya to take the ferry and meet up with me and my buddies and we can caravan it. but my blokes arent the social type. Be safe though, If ya see a Grey scion XB loaded to the max, give us a honk!
bring a blanket. its colder at night than you will expect. by a huge margin.
I never had any problem with this in 05 and 06, but in 07, after The Police on Sat. night it got dreadfully cold. I had to throw on a hoodie and pair of pants, which then got soaked during my sleep once 7 AM rolled around.

as a trained medical professional I can't stress this enough. if you do insist on consuming alcohol in the june tennessee heat, PLEASE make sure that you stay well hydrated...at least 8 oz of water every drink or two, more would be better.
and yeah, corn never hurt nobody in the sun
make sure to pack ibuprofen or tylenol but don't take ibuprofen on an empty stomach. gatorade or other electrolyte replenishing drinks are a must !!!
bring a small first aid kit with ibuprofen or tylenol, bandaids, antibiotic ointment, imodium (for diarrhea just in case). if you use an inhaler or epipen bring those of course.
even if you are not a cigarette smoker, just in case you get stung, tobacco moistened from a couple of cigarettes and placed on a sting draws out the sting.
bottle of aloe
an ace wrap wouldnt be a terrible idea if youre a klutz like me ...lol
I'm bringing all of the above and likely some iv fluid as well.
How loud it was at night. If you are a light sleeper, Camping Only would probably be brutal.
People will walk up to your camp and ask you if you'd like to buy illegal stuff. Right out of the blue. It is unlikely they are cops.
How good the food in Centeroo is. Thought it'd be like a state fair, full of deep fried everything. But it was gooood.
How little time I spent at my camp, and how little I need there. (Towels and water were most impt to me.)
How stand-0ffish some ppl can be at a fest like Bonnaroo. From reading these boards you get the idea everyone will welcome you with open arms. At inforoo camp it's prolly true, but my First Roo I couldn't give away fresh margaritas or Pale Ale for even 5 minutes of conversation.
How many ppl were completely unprepared for rain. Seriously. It was forecast all week and ppl were still huddled up in corners shivering in a T-shirt and shorts the first night.
How awesome the volunteers and staff are. Even when they asked to take a brief look through my car, the guys were very cool.
How good the sound was at the What Tent. Everyone sounded great there. And how bad the sound was at the Which Stage.
as far as the centeroo food, one thing I would highly recommend are the samosas - little African turnover thingys filled with a variety of meat and veggie fillings. They are very inexpensive, filling and look to be relatively nutritious.
Yeah centeroo food is a must, bring money for it! Soooo good.
This was covered a little bit earlier, but I'd just like to emphasize the point: don't drink too much early in the day, and don't eat much corn, smoke it. I actually had a 'special' muffin right before going to sleep one night last year, woke up completely rocked and wandered around in a daze for hours. It slowwwsss you down. Not ideal for a sprawling active festival.
Don't overpack! You really probably won't need half of the things you think you will need. It doesn't really affect your experience if you do... unless you get parked out in BFE and decide to walk in to Tent Only like we did. Nothing awesome about hauling hundreds of pounds of crap two miles in dusty Tennessee heat. Then again you might leave behind something you really want later. So I guess my advice is simply: pack wisely.
Good advice above, don't allow yourself to be a part of drama. Kills the vibe and is completely unnecessary. Just walk away!

this, we came back Thursday night in the pouring rain to find a group of kids from Massachusetts huddled under our ezup. They were soaking wet in little to no clothes. Granted they flew in so they couldn't bring much.

We brought two 5day coolers, had dry ice in one and frozen water on monday. We had regular ice in the other and only had to buy one bag of ice on Sunday maybe. A 5 day cooler is an absolute must at Bonnaroo. It's worth the initial investment.
When you enter the farm, you park you car and you can camp by it or you can haul your gear to tent only. It's an open farm, so you are free to go back to your car at anytime.

If you are a light sleeper, earplugs are amazingly great!!!
A battery powered fan (I got mine i believe at a Big Lots store) that runs on D batteries has saved my mornings more than once at Bonnaroo. Keeps me cooler in my tent and helps drown out any additional noise while trying to get a little more snooze time. I use one that runs on D batteries and a smaller one up by my neck that runs on AA batteries.
