How late/early are the showers open? Is there light in there or is it only good during daylight hours?
Showers
We love to shower (who doesn’t?!), and we offer showers throughout the campgrounds at specific locations for your rub-a-dub-dub pleasure. Upon your arrival at the fest, you will receive a map of the grounds that lists each and every shower location, and you are able to enjoy a shower any time during daylight hours. Showers cost a nominal fee of $7 per use, and there are staff on hand to ensure the cleanliness of each shower. And don't worry about packing shampoo and conditioner, our showers will provide this complimentary, thanks to our friends Garnier Fructis!
I think that they open around 8 AM and close around 8 PM. I don't remember lights but I don't remember lighting being a problem. They are basically in a trailer that is four or five stalls deep.
Funny Story: In 04 they had the men's showers and the women's showers stacked end to end. The end men's shower and the end women's shower were separated by a glass pannel. The front men's shower was also pretty exposed to the line waiting to shower. That was a little weird. By the end of the weekend they had shower curtains up on both sides, though.
Thanks a bunch! good to know. was thinking if they were open around the clock and i was desperate for a shower, id try to go either midday or at night when its less hot and gross out, but...looks like its only daylight hours. I didnt see that on that link when i read it earlier.

It would make more sense to have some late night availability for the showers. I've thought about taking one in the past, but the prospect of getting clean and then sweating nuts on the way back to the campsite seems like a waste of ten bucks. A late night shower right before bed on the other hand. . .

I broke down and showered once last year. The water is sulfer water so it makes you smell like rotten eggs. I was better off just using baby wipes!
That's surprising to me. My shower experience was very nice. No egg smell and I showered every day.
I wish I could use baby wipes. Unfortunately, the forest of hair on my body prohibits their effective use. And I'm NOT shaving it...all that itching would make roo torturous.
However, 2 gallon jugs of hand sanitizer and some wash cloths...hmmm...maybe that's an idea.

How bad are the shower lines at Roo and are the showers spread out? The showers at Coachella were a complete clusterfuck. A two hour wait for a shower is beyond insane.
The lines aren't usually terribly long, just slow moving. There's not a locker room or anything so everyone's shower prep and post-shower stuff keeps line waiting.
They are pretty well spread out -- maybe one unit with four or five sets of showers per Pod?
And I've never had any sulfur water in the showers I've paid for.

I don't see any reason behind using the showers at roo, waste of money if you ask me. An empty gallon jug + bodywash/shampoo combo + water trough + towel = ftw.

The one bad thing about the showers, that I saw anyway (I didn't use them), was that the area surrounding the showers was nothing but mud. That would suck to pay $10 for a shower and then immediately step in mud once you got out.

I don't know how to spell sulfur Anyway, I will leave the showering alone this alone this year, the smell of my hair after the shower last year grossed me out. I do remember standing in line for 15-20 minutes and it was a mud pit! I wasn't camped too far from a shower trailer so I didn't bother with my mud boots. Yep Mattseven, I have no forest of hair except for the mop that lives atop my head!

that makes me smile! ;D
as for the shower situation, i was a volunteer last year, so i got there on tuesday. we had free access to showers, but the line was so long by 8 AM that it almost wasnt worth it. you could get up early and beat the line, but then you're sacrificing sleep. i only took one shower from tues-sunday, but it was heaven when i got out. i felt like a new man!

Any type of rinse off is a good thing, be it the stalls, troughs, or even the mushroom fountain. Even if you start sweating immediately after it is good to not have yesterdays funk, baking in the next days sun. Baby wipes work for me and i am a veritable forest. You don't have to shave it off but you can manscape with a one or a two guard trimmer.
In 2008 we went to the troughs, which worked just fine to get clean and they were free. Every morning we would roll down there in bathing suits get a good rinse off with soap and start the day. It worked out awesome.
2009 we were far away from showers an water troughs, so I just baby wiped all festival until the last day. That shower on Sunday was magical, I felt so much cleaner AND had a ton more energy. Lesson learned, it's worth a long walk to at least rinse off each day.
2010 I took the advice I read on these boards and bought a camp shower. Hopefully this will make life easier, assuming a water tap isn't too far away.

I didn't have a problem roughing it out without a shower, but avoiding the sun was a big issue. make sure to always use sunscreen and definitely invest in a shade tent. also, buy cool stuff there. definitely already been said a million times but thats what i didnt expect

The showers were hot and clean before all of the during fest volunteers got there. there wasn't any line either. That was fantastic.
Whats the best way to keep a Camera/other electronic devices charged?
I was hoping to bring a few extra batteries and charge them in the car at night, but im not sure how much of a drain on the battery that would take after 4 days.
I understand they have 'cell phone charging stations' but i would like to avoid that.
Any portable devices i should think about? or just count on the car charger the whole weekend?
I bought an inverter, but that's kinda the same idea of using your car battery.
I got it so I could blow up my airbeds and mayyybe charge my battery camera, but I bought an extra camera battery to be safe, and I have a backup camera that uses regular AAs.
The other thing is my phone, and I might just keep it off unless I split with my friends or really need 3G service for some reason or a 3rd camera backup...
I plan to take quite a few pictures and video, thus i am in a slight predicament. Even the 2 battery route wont work for me. I have a trigger finger when it comes to cameras and will need to charge multiple times even with multiple batteries.
Any advice from vets would be appreciated. Do you think the car battery with an inverter attached will be sufficient?
I found out last year that my cell phone was damn near worthless at Roo regardless of whether or not it was charged. When it actually had charge I couldn't get ahold of anyone, or they got my text messages like hours after I sent them, and when people tried to get ahold of me I either didn't notice for some time or my phone was dead. Didn't waste time standing in line to charge it, and I was in tent only so no chance of charging it at my car. Frankly, I didn't care. It's liberating to not be tied to the phone for a few days every year :]
As for the camera, I brought extra charged battery and a couple extra memory sticks and kept them and my camera in a ziplock bag in my pocket (in case of rain). I don't believe I even had to change the battery.
haha, oh I know what you mean... I have over 252 albums on Facebook and even made a separate Facebook page for my favorite pictures if I ever try to go pro or something.
I don't have an dslr though, so wont take toooo many pictures cause a lot of concert/night pics get blurry and annoy the hell out of me.
I asked on the regular roo boards how much memory to take and another person said my 7gb total might not be enough (some people transfer them to a laptop though) but the main concern is batteries. Even if you charge your battery in the car, having backups when you're not there is ideal and then hopefully that'd last you through a day. Who knows. I know I start losing sight of what I'm actually experiencing if I stay glued to my camera. I see it through a camera lens instead of my own eyes.
anywho...instead of an inverter, if you're still using the car and don't have 1 yet, you can also just look into a car charger for your camera battery if that's all you wanna use the inverter for. I found 1 for mine, but figured...I already have the inverter, so dont wanna waste money. I've just been told to be careful using an inverter. some dont charge a lot (like only really small appliances) and some are more and then gotta be careful how it'd affect your car battery. ive still gotta test mine out.
If anyone has experience/advice with inverters, feel free to post!
