Hey everybody! Can you sleep in your car, preferably with the AC on? I understand this isn't eco-friendly. Most likely just to sleep (without it running) and using solar-powered fans.
I think your neighbors would bug out if your car was idling the whole time you were sleeping, cars and tents are really close together. it gets pretty chilly at nite, but heats up fast when the sun rises.
I slept in the car one time in '05 just cause our tiny tent was packed. Generally I don't think you'll need the a/c on at night in your car really.... last year it was sooooo honkey donkey freezing the first night (or was it the second?) I wanted to cry! I only brought a sheet with me (I flew and tried to pack light!), so I ended up wrapping all my clothes around me to try to keep warm... hehe.... good times
yeah, it might be nice to turn the a/c on for a quick car break in the late afternoon or something, but it really cools down at night.
EDIT: HEY you're from Ocean City, NJ!!!??? That's awesome! Growing up, I used to do down to Strathmere every summer (and therefor, OC as well ) - oh my goodness I miss those beaches so much. If you live there year round I am so jealous!!!
that deserves some karma!!!

Knowing me.... I'll be going to sleep from 5am, to just before noon! and I'm sure that heat will be a factor Yeah, I live in OC now (year round) but just moved from NC between charlotte and asheville
Welcome to the board and while I understand the desire to enjoy the AC, much like august said, you're going to have some peeved neighbors. In fact, I think I'd take a huge dump on the hood of your car if you did that around my site.

No matter where you sleep, unless you are totally passed out, it is hard to sleep past 7 when the sun comes up and makes the tent or car a sauna. My daughter slept in our SUV with the windows cracked and was totally comfortable until about about 7am. After that, there was no escaping the heat and the sun.
last year i was forced to sleep in my car and didn't enjoy it at all. But you should be fine with the windows cracked. AC breaks are mandatory, especially if you are there early Thursday and have to wait 11 hours for Centeroo to open. Other than that, the only AC breaks i took was when i was returning from Centeroo for the night. I've always been so far away that going back to my car wasn't an option.
we were camped by the back edge of the campsites kinda, so our cars weren't really right next to anyone elses. but my buddy ran his AC off and on all weekend long and only used up 1/4 tank of gas.
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**

My pals & I had to sleep one night in the car last year after someone (I'd rather not say who...) left the tent open for an invasion of Gigantic Tennessee Spiders.
well not to sound like a complete idiot, but i am soooooo afraid of spiders. and i'm from tennessee lol.
i've found that spiders are usually just bad in the woods. my house gets them about twice a year but other then that..i'd worry about ants, mosquitoes, and i always seem to have a problem with wasps and bees in the summer.

I am also deathly afraid of spiders. No other bugs of any kind bother me, but spiders put me in a panic. When we were setting up our tents last year we had a few HUGE brown spiders crawl over our tents. We made sure to keep our tents tightly zipped up at all times after we saw them
I don't want to be a fear monger, but the only insects I've ever seen a whole lot of at Roo have been the spiders. No mosquitos, ants, or anything...just a bunch of little spiders.

True. We went equipped with all kinds of bug repellents, sprays and candles and really didn't need them at all.
I know it usually doesn't make anyone feel any better, but the types of spiders that are venomous would generally have no reason to be out in a field. Recluses and widows prefer enclosed areas like attics, or piles of wood, not rocks and grass. Those big hairy brown spiders are entirely harmless, we have lots of them around here.
Some people around us got ticks last year, but we were camping by the woods.
What you really want to watch for is that poison ivy. Look it up if you're not the outdoor type...it looks like any other vine.

Yep that makes absolutely no difference to me. The big hairy brown ones that move fast are the most scary of all - venomous or not, makes no difference. And the ones that jump.... OMG
Yeah, it is pretty freaky when they move all fast and jerky-like.
At least they eat other bugs, including plenty of things you wouldn't want crawling on you either.
Fun fact: "The average spider eats 100 bugs per year. You are never more than 12' from a spider. "
Not as fun: "Given their due, spiders should be prized for their role as predators and natural regulators of insect populations, but because of their appearance and human cultural fears, when one is found to be potentially dangerous, sensationalizing it is irresistible."

We had a HUGE wolf spider in out tent of Fri night in 04. I must have been hillarious to see us wasted and trying to shoo it out of our tent without squishing it. I know they're harmless, but definatly creepy. Other than that, I've had next to no trouble with bugs in 5 years of Bonnaroo.
"It's the middle of the night, and your mommy and your daddy are sleeping.....sleeping in a car!!!!! (the car is under your bed.)"
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it
I slept in my car at 2005 , I just bought a couple of cheap battery powered fans at Walmart and hung them on windows and was very comfortable day, or night!!!

You are my hero if you can sleep until noon. I cant get past 7:30
heres a funny story and a warning to you if you sleep in the car. when my dad was in his early 20's him and some friends went to the indy 500. got all trashed and passed out in the car. well the next morning he woke up to hear a struggle and someone freeking out. some how his friend had gotten his head and an arm stuck indisde the steering wheel. they actually had to have the fire department cut the steering wheel to get him out. so watch out for that. also they make mosquito screens hooked to magnents so you can keep bugs out of your car when the windows are open. they work really good.

I've only slept in my car once at Roo, but i've never had any mosquito problems. We always get lots of the "baby" grasshoppers, but usually only for the first couple of hours. I guess we scare them off after a while....or maybe it's just that we sedate the hell out of them! We have always had tiny spiders, though. Every year, every day. They've never bitten us or anything (if they did, we didn't notice), so I don't mind sharing my campsite with the little guys. They will keep most other pests away from our tent and I really dig that. We did have a couple of them last year that just wouldn't stop talking about how "SICK" Oysterhead was going to be, but after I saw their set...I understood entirely. All things considered, Roo spiders are pretty cool...even the mouthy ones.
no spider will ever be considered cool in my book! so i may just fold down the back seats of my car (it's a highlander) and sleep there if i even see one spider........or do they make "spider traps??" ...hmmm....there must be a way to keep those crawly things away from me!!!
maybe i'll just get really out of it so i don't have to notice them. but then again, that could make it so much worse.
ooh ps. i have seen commercials for these new solar power fans that go on your window and keep the car cool without any air conditioning at all!!! saves energy! i want one!
