I started the same thread in the What Stage, but I really need answers so I figured my question would work for this blog as well. I need help sleeping late, but I don't know how to combat the heat. Anyone know how to solve this problem?
All I can tell ya is use earplugs, take a shade tent. Or stay up.
I never slept past nine last year, which wasnt bad. What I found that works well is this: You get up whenever you get up, and then walk down to centeroo and take a nap under That Tent (or is it This Tent? I dont remember... it's the one closest to the main entrance to centeroo.) I took a ton of naps there, in the morning it is relatively quiet, and no one will bother you. Use your backpack as a pillow. Take those eaplugs with you. The shade there is so nice.

I'm one of those people who absolutely loves to sleep. The longer and later, the better. That being said, when i'm at Bonnaroo, I don't even try. I sleep when i'm exhausted and wake-up shortly after. While I don't sleep for any substantial ammount of time, I do take many short naps during the weekend. Centeroo is about the best place to get a little shut-eye(especially in the morning) because you're not packed-in as tightly as you are at camp. You can always find some semi-personal space to, at least, rest-up between shows. My advice is to just not worry about sleep while your there. Your body will take care of it's self when it's necessary. Just keep focused on that ultra-amazing, DEEP sleep that you'll undoubtedly fall into as soon as you get back home. The post-Roo shower and sleep are a couple of the best experiences I have every year. Perfect ways to end that incredible weekend.
Oh my is that the truth. The 1st two things you do when you get home is shower and sleep and the only word I can think to describe that feeling is GLORIOUS!
The heat will wake you up by at latest 10 so be ready for power naps in the shade in Centeroo.
i sleep very little at roo. usually get there thursday morning and dont sleep until after the friday latenight. and event hen i say screw the walk back to camp. just crash under the tree by the cinema tent and when it gets too hot there you can just go inside the air conditioned cinema tent. byt the time the latenight ends and you walk back to camp it will be too hot in a tent so youll be laying on the ground anyways.

We put up our tent, then put up tarps about 3 feet abouve that to keep direct sun off the tent. Works reasonably well for us as far as heat goes. Now the drunk people camping next to us who kept using a TAZER!!! on each other was another issue. Entertaining, but noisy as hell. <zap>

tarping above the tent sounds like a good idea...I had batter powered fans last time and that was nice
I actually slept fine last year, my advice is get a canopy to put over your tent and use a tarp off the side to block the morning sun. Oh and do this in tent only where you can spread out actually catch a breeze now and then.

Yeah, I slept till noon in my tent one day after taking something the people at the next camp over gave me, hey she was a nurse. Don't do that though, between the heat and dehydration, something bad could happen.

I'll repeat what I put in yr first thread. A large, airy tent w/ no rainfly (provided it's not raining of course) + a sunshade and tarps strategically positioned to the east to block the rising sun = sleeping late in a cool, shaded breezy tent. And some calmatives don't hurt either.
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it

Thanks man. You have been the most helpful. I'm gonna give that a try. Karma on me....
If things go your way and you want sleep, you'll get it. Last year was my first Roo and we just had a simple tent. Here's how my sleep schedule went, and I slept based on tiredness and when the heat woke me up. All my sleeping was at camp.
Thursday night: 2 AM -9 AM Friday night: 5 AM -10 AM Saturday night: 7 AM-12:30 PM
If you're really intent on sleeping in and the camps around you aren't noisy, it's not really a problem. We were lucky enough to have quiet neighbors. Sure, missing Be Your Own Pet due to sleeping in Sunday morning was a minor regret, but I really needed the sleep. It helped me enjoy some of the later sets that day without feeling poor.
But trust me, that first morning waking up in the baking tent all sweaty and disgusting, it is NOT a favorable condition to wake up in! But after a quick washup with a jug of water and washcloth, some deodorant, and a brushing of the teeth, I felt like a completely new man. Just like most things with Roo, sleep is what you make of it, and how determined you are to get it.
And as easy as it may seem to be a diehard "sleep is for the weak" type, the little sleep I got was very valuable. By making sure I maximized my non-music seeing time and getting as much sleep as possible, I was able to see the late nights each night (including Sasha's set until sunrise), and feel no effects all weekend. I got about 17 hours total between the three nights, and that was perfect for both my friend and I. If you can, try to get some sleep. It helps you stay alert and ready for those late nights, and those were the most fun sets of Roo for me last year.
camping by the woods is scarry, watch out for urine and used needles
ive read a lot about that... but i never saw any of that. i set up camp about 10 yards, maybe less, from where the "woods" started and the trees gave just enough shade to block the sun until about noon.

I dont think so much the "used needles" although, there may be some, but more the urine, feces and used toilet paper and feminie products....
Thats what you have to worry about in the woods around roo. Not to mention the ticks and bugs. Ticks are more likely to be in and around trees than in the open fields of roo.

around our camp last year, at about 7am, everyone came out of their tent and moved to the west side of the tent and went back to sleep on the ground in the shade of their tent
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**
last year was such nice weather most of the time that after the first night and me and my friends got sauna'd out of our tents at like 9am, some of us (read: non-couples just started sleeping outside under the shade tent. which actually made things wonderfully convenient because noone really left the group to go sleep, we'd all just chill and talk after all the shows until we came down and passed out... plus it gave us maybe an extra hour or two of sleep time before the heat was totally unbearable.
(by the way, karma for your 420th post areyoukind ;D)
Maybe I'll throw myself to the dogs, but my back's not to the wall Maybe I'll lay some bricks for the man, but the days just aren't that long So if I settle back and chill will I see far enough to feel the angel's dream? I thought it was the Story of the World!
I would usually keep a small towel that was moist and cover my face with it when it got too darn hot in the mornings. Pick a dark one and don't cover your airholes!
so, do you guys think the ventilation without the rainfly is cooler than the shade created by the rainfly? i've been trying to weigh the pros and cons.

If u have a tent that is mesh on top then it will be cooler with the rainfly off. Plus at night it's awesome just to chill in thet ent lay on your back and look at the stars........Just have the rainfly ready cause if it rains u fuc#d

I've gotta bump boomerang's response as no-one seems to have noticed it. This what I do also, that time between waking and the first band is kinda dead time for me, so what better to do with it than sleep on a belly full of funnel cakes? Just need to resist the urge to have that first coffee.
