Can anybody tell me what it was like when they search your car going into VIP. We went in 05. We got there around 2am Thursday morning. The guy searching our Car went nuts. He searched our car for about 30 minutes. He didn't find a thing but he was determined too. Also while that was going on I was watching the cops searching some cars that they pulled off to the side. They took every thing out of the Van for that search. Do you have the same searches for VIP. Any Stories in the past.

call me crazy, but i'd guess that arriving at 2am when gates aren't opening for multiple hours is a perfect opportunity for them to do long ass searches like that.
Maybe I'll throw myself to the dogs, but my back's not to the wall Maybe I'll lay some bricks for the man, but the days just aren't that long So if I settle back and chill will I see far enough to feel the angel's dream? I thought it was the Story of the World!
something I cannot remember from last year - when they search your car? That is all they did, didn't they - I mean they did not do a pat down on the occupants of the vehicle, did they? I just cannot remember that. I don't think they did - because it seems to me that they would have to have females to do females and such.

Last year we went GA and didn't even get searched. they just let us roll right in.... I think they do a bit of profiling when serching cars, to cut down on the time... if yer at least cohearent by the time you get to'em they don't waste much your time. I remenber in 05 the car ahead of us in line was just wacky. every person in that car was messed out of their minds, so when they got to the search point the driver(prolly the most sober) literally fell outa the car. the search folks hadta grab a trashbag to collect all the illeagals outa the car. Advice: save yer drugs and booze for when the music starts.

Call me crazy, but the gates ARE open at 2am on Thursday morning!!!
We have benn slightly searched going in (the two years I have been) Not too bad, just get out look in glove box, under seats, middle compartment, ask what is in the coolers, ok good to go. Nothing bad. Seemed harmless.

really? what's with all the other posts i read about people who were sitting outside waiting to get in in the wee hours of thursday?
I don't know about everyone else - but I was at Walmart - Wednesday night - two cops rolled up around 11:30 and told us that they were openeing the gates - 1 hour later - we had camp set up and were ready to start our Bonnaroo experience.
I went in 05 as GA. They let us right in. We had about an hour wait once we got off the highway even at 2am. I am older(35) and I do not look like a Wook so I was surprised that we got searched like we did. I am actually a dirty hippie at heart but dress like someone in their 30s.

lets see , being one of the oldest on the board, guess they wont search me ... oh thats right, my hair is down past my shoulders ... opps and our camper has "Hippies Always Welcome" on it ... well guess i might be wrong ;D cr******
i know better than to argue with someone who lives IN manchester i yield to you sir and admit my mistake, for some reason i swore i read stuff from people who were waiting outside last year in the early am...must already be seeing nuts that isn't there
wouldn't it still seem more likely that the possibility of a longer/more thorough search would occur in the early hours, when people haven't arrived in force yet?

I would imagine you are correct in your assumption of a more thourough search when there are less people coming in.
BTW, that article you posted was from three years ago.
Oh, and heres a karma point for you, just because!
well, if you agree with me i guess i don't need to keep offering evidence/analysis as to how i arrived at it yeah i know the article's old but i thought it useful to gain insight into the thinking and motivation(s) of the local police force at the time (is that guy Graves still sheriff?)
hah thanks for the karma, but you didn't really hafta do that for no reason. i like my karma as much as the next guy/girl, but it doesn't define my existence on inforoo at least make something up that makes me feel better, like "here's some karma because i love user names that start with an 'X'" ;D

Im telling you they just randomly search every so many cars when they are coming through. The last year the car right in front of us was and we just got the normal glass looksie.
I think its pretty random. In 05 we didn't even really get checked they just looked in our cooler. In 06 they checked the middle console, glove compartment, and our cooler, then they asked us if we had any drugs and we told them no then they said "well you need any??".....I laughed my ass off.
I think they definitely do tend to search more in the earlier hours and when the line's not so bad. Last year was my third, the first two years we just rolled through (in an RV), the guy hopped on board, announced that he was just looking for bombs, poked around for a minute, and hopped off. We actually had coolers full of bottles, and nobody said anything (I didn't even know the first year that we weren't supposed to have glass). Last year we came in a bit earlier Thurs through the "back" entrance and they searched the hell out of us, and hauled off some expensive beer and liquor. There was the Bonnaroo security guy and a cop. The security guy was a total dick, the cop was actually really cool. It seemed like he felt bad for us getting hassled so much.
Anyway though, even if they search more or less at certain times I think it's random enough that it's best to just ASSUME that they'll search you. There's no point in bringing in "bad" things. Lots of other people will try, and enough will succeed that you can buy what you need once you're inside.
