They're aren't any K-9s around during car/person searches are there?
one of the cars in my group got sniffed around by dogs while waiting in line on the shoulder of the highway last year. i didn't see any k-9's in the actual festival grounds.
Maybe I'll throw myself to the dogs, but my back's not to the wall Maybe I'll lay some bricks for the man, but the days just aren't that long So if I settle back and chill will I see far enough to feel the angel's dream? I thought it was the Story of the World!

In '05, I remember there being a group of cops with a K-9 over to the side of the line of cars where the "vehicle checks" take place( which is right before they take your ticketstubs and give everyone in your car wristbands). They were searching a van. In the past two Roos, we've never been searched, but I've seen cars be emptied out and searched by the roo-workers thoroughly. Like everyone's said, it's completely random with alittle bit of profiling. Since the thorough k-9 search probably takes longer, it's probably based on profiling alone. I can't remember if the k-9 was there last year or not though.

Okay we all know about random searches entering the roo campgrounds, but what about leaving the campgrounds? Are there ideal ways to leave, or just be careful leaving and drive "sober" back home.
"That's the big thing about education. People can be book smart, but not really intelligent about anything else. A lot of times they just taking in all this information and regurgitate it. It's much more important to process it and personalize it. To apply it to your world, to your life. You have to walk the walk, or you can't really report about it honestly."

I might have missed this one but what about RV's. I know your more likely to be pulled over on the way just because it's obvious where your going. But does anyone have any input about RV's being searched in depth with dogs or is it just as random as the cars and vip?
I was RV VIP last year - they literally waved us on and we never stopped. which was a pisser, since we should have bought that expensive makers mark mint julep! personally, i think they should relax the glass rule for vip'ers.
however, the only reason that we did get waved through was because they stopped searching for a bit. apparantly they had been a little too intense and traffic was backing up for miles. so had we been earlier, i suspect we would have been investigated thoroughly.
like others have said, it's just random. odds are, there wont be a problem. dont give them a reason to search you.
by the way, driving to Roo, until you are really close-by, it's not obvious to anyone where you are going unless you plan on advertising the fact. youre just another RV on the road. the cops in the surrounding states arent thinking - omgoutofstateplatestheymustbebringingdrukqstobonnaroo!@#

I heard rumors someone even smuggled a trash-can sized beer keg into VIP last year......

I heard the exact same thing. Supposedly VIP entrance was a PITA due to searches until late morning on Thursday. Then someone made the executive decision to stop the VIP searches and get all of the cars inside.

yeah, i think we were getting in the gate sometime between 11:30 and 1. not sure exactly... it all went kinda fuzzy afterwords...
I have a " I support the MN highway patrol" sticker on my vehicle. It's like a get out of jail free card. Put something like that on your car and you won't be bothered. Remember, I use to be one. ;D

In '06 I went down with my dad and 7 of my friends and we had a RV in GA and they pulled us over to search us. We were all pretty much in the clear until one of the girls forgot to mention the she brought some harder poop that none of us were cool with. We also all got patted down...my bra checked an all (not that they made my take my bra off...but they touched around the boob area to make sure I wasn't hiding anything in my bra) then stared at me when I went to light a cigarette...needless to say it resulted in a huge fine and us looking like a$$holes. Last year my parents both went down VIP and they didn't get searched and my best friend and I went down in GA and they just "searched" our cooler. And by searched I mean the girl opened it...moved a beer...and said it looks like we were gonna be having a fantastic time. Pretty much there's just no way of telling whether or not you're going to get searched or how heavily. I guess just be ultra creative with where you place things around you car or RV haha.
In 2005 we went in a pretty standard fifth wheel pull behind GA camping, one of our fellow campers provided it. This year we are renting a diesel pusher Class A bus VIP camping. So we will see..... Anyways that year I spent ALOT of time stashing glass. We did not bring in any NO NO word. But we took some of the glass food items salsa, queso, pasta sauce containers we had along with personal consumption alcohol, (a bottle or two of Yaeger nothing major) and hid them. We hid that stuff like we were gonna be boarded by the DEA in a Cigarette Boat. Nada. Nothing. No one even looked in our truck pulling the camper let alone they never opened the camper. I remember thinking at the time I wish I was alittle less paranoid. I also remember a fleeting thought that makes me wonder if I haven't goofed my KARMA up. Just for an instant I wished someone would've searched around just to see how we would have made out during an invasive search, as well as to justify spending all that time stashing stuff. I couldn't help it......it just popped in my head at the time. It makes me think this year we will be cavity searched.....be careful what you wish for. I think the search deal is very KARMA sensitive, cosmically random, as to who draws the laid back cop and who draws a neo-fascist volunteer or vice versa. THAT being said there are some things you can do that help. Do not arrive wasted. Stay wasted for days sun-up to pass-out time all ROO long if that is you thing but go through the gate with your wits about you. Also have your tickets, arm bands, passes, credentials etc. in some kinda order. Maybe a folder on the dash whatever... but you know they want to see those things so the longer you fumble around in a I-just-had-it-here-somewhere way they longer it takes (negative karma for those behind you) and it gives the gate person more time to look in and around while your holding up the line digging for the things that YOU SHOULD HAVE ON HAND. Be polite. They are checking in 10's of thousands of people, some of whom will act like idiots. Don't be one of them. It is just to easy to say "yes sir" "sure no problem" "sorry my bad" rather than "what the he!! pig. Freaking neo-con fascist" even if that is the case. Lastly, SMILE and HAVE FUN. No one really wants to hassle someone that is positive and friendly.
This might be a silly question, but... I know fireworks aren't allowed, but what about sparklers? Because for some reason, right now I have this image of me frolicking around the campgrounds at dusk with a sparkler in my hand, and it makes me smile.
As my Inebriated buddy walks out of the Porto, he yells out, "Dude...I love this place...bonnaroo thinks about everything...they even put beer holders next to the toilet!"
Had to break it to him that that was the urnal. Good times good times!
i would be HUGELY pissed if someone threw a sparkler through my tent (as it would melt like a hot knife through butter) or if a roman candle or whatnot did the same.
seriously, its one of those things that's only fun to the person doing it and potentially a major liability to everyone else.
We had to take off Sunday morning last year. I got all turned around since it was my first year, but we were sent out via what was apparently the "real" Shakedown--which I was pissed I had missed--and ended up by the interstate. There were about 5 cruisers parked by the on-ramp and I was like "holy nuts", but they must of been on break.
They thing that freaked me out about leaving was my dust-covered car, which I assumed would draw attention, and the gigantic Roo sticker they put in my window...sort a wish that could be a little smaller.
