Thanks 'dude'...and here' some karma for putting my mind at ease...we weren't bringing in that much, but good scotch should not be put in plastic...and a little wine might be fun during the day...

If you are bringing wine - bring the stuff in the box and take out of the box, it is in a foil pouch inside, just put it in the cooler. It is obviously not the best wine in the world but it isn't awful either.
We actually had a bottle of vodka with us last year, not even thinking about the no glass rule, but they didn't search us so it was not an issue.
Every year that I've been, we've received a brief 'could you open up the back/trunk real quick for a look?' Each time has involved a quick rifling through our crap (nothing thorough) and they let us roll on in from there. That said, like others have pointed out, it would seem that some SERIOUS searches occur randomly.
As long as you're not doing something incredibly stupid, the folks are understandable.

On the way in last year, they asked if we had any drugs or glass or anything, and we said no, the cops took our drugs on the way down. Then he followed it with, I'll let you keep whatever you tell us you have. We told him again the cops took it on the way down (I swear I saw a look of defeat on his eyes when I told him the second time). I made it clear to my friends that we should probably follow the no glass rule and I thought we did. I was wrong, when we popped the trunk the dude searching the back found two bottles of salsa that we didn't even think twice about (it was salsa, all I was thinking about was glass liqueur bottles). He clanked them together and said, "no glass? what the fuck are these?" Then one of his partners found a nondescript white pill, and asked what it was and we said aspirin (the cops who nabbed us going down didn't even bother to ask about the aspirin, so we didn't know it was back there). They pulled us all out of the car and had us empty our pockets. They searched the car a little, and then let us go. The dudes who gave us our wristbands were fucking cool though, we told them we lost everything on the way down and they helped. It was nice!
The two times I have been to roo I have had nothing more than friendly comments from the ticket-takers. I have actually never seen any car being searched. Both times I arrived around noon on Thursday. Sucks about the salsa man ^. I understand a no glass rule, but salsa is America's most valued condiment. Sounds like he was a dick anyways...

So does anyone know what the punishment was if they found some "glass, fireworks, or illegal substance" in your car or on you even if it was just enough for personal use and not for sale? Did they just confiscate it or did anyone ever hear about people getting arrested or whatnot if they were searched by the cops on the way in?

OK your gonna love this one!
Last year TN passed a law that said you have to pay taxes on all the illegal druqs you buy. Of course you don't pay your dealer taxes, so, when they arrest someone with druqs they have a tax for how ever much you were caught with. (Actually your supposed to buy a stamp.)
Last year, at the far gate down here by our neighborhood, the cops were set up on Thrusday morning. Everyone that was found with druqs (That didnt have the stamp, which is of course everyone) was written a citation on the spot and forced to pay the "tax". If they didn't have enough money they were arrested.
This was only for those that had personal amounts. If They large amounts they were arrested right there.
I swear this is true!! Look up TN druq laws on norml.com.

we saw someone get a ticket for 2 pounds. they took their money and stuff and gave them a ticket that said they had to appaear in court. then they let them into roo.
Last year was my first time in VIP and I brought my pop-up. I did not have to open it. As a matter of fact there was no search of my vehicle either. The whole VIP experience is really laid back as far as security hassles go. That goes for entering Roo from the campground too...no waiting and no search. The guards just nod and you roll thru.

That is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. STAMPS! I actually remember reading about them on the norml.com site awhile back. I can't believe they actually checked for them though. I guess it was nice that the people still got to go to roo, but other than that its terrible because it's not like if you have the stamps your legal, its just if you dont' have them, thats something else they can fine and penalize you for, and then take you jail.
Last year was my first roo. I went VIP, and never got searched once. We rolled right in middle of the day on Thursday without even stopping.
The guys watching the gates into Centeroo are not there to make sure you're not bringing anything in, they are only watching to make sure no one comes into VIP without a wrist band.

Well, just so no one gets the wrong idea, the guys watching the gates into Centeroo are there to make sure you're not bringing anything in, and some like to exercise their power more than others. The guys watching the VIP entrance look at the wristbands. The Centeroo gates and VIP gates are not one in the same.
I came in a RV last year and we were searched by the police on the way in. They came on and we h=got hassled for our SALSA as well. We just emptied the salsa into plastic cups. That had everyone get out of the RV while they searched as well and made us empty our pockets. No pat downs though. Then we went in. That was the biggest search I had in five years of Roo. All the other times were VERY minor searches.
^ i believe its been stated before but for a more lax search, go to either the quicker moving line of the line with a female searchign because they tended to be easier with that stuff I noticed last year.
^^ Well that's true for the lines going into Centeroo. You can't really choose your line driving into the site.

That's pretty much exactly what happened to us on our way into GA w/ an RV last year. We had a bunch of glass bottles that got taken, it'd never been an issue before. There was the Bonnaroo security guy, who was a total d!ck, and a young cop who was totally chill. He asked me to empty my pockets, looked at my piece and (relatively small) bag and says "OK, you're cool."
You'd obviously know more about this than me, but I was kinda assuming that they hired a whole bunch of extra "temporary" cops for Bonnaroo... deputies or whatever. If they do, this guy was probably one of them.

No I cant speak with any authority on where the force came from, temporary or permanent.
I just know how the cops are around here the other 361 days out of the year and NO cop around here would ever let ANYONE go if they found a glass piece and a stash, no matter how small. Hell, they will arrest you for a "dirty" glasspiece!
Maybe they are a bit more lax with roo in town, due to the number of people, I dont know.
I am certainly glad that you did not have to go to jail though!

This year is a first for my fiancee and I. We can't wait for 'Roo. I've read all the previous posts, but how is the body search? They're aren't any K-9s around during car/person searches are there?
^ negative. they dont search your person at all when you enter the festival. when you enter centeroo they do but they are real lenient (they are volunteering for a free ticket for roo for themselves so their like you and me). i recomend choosing the line going into centeroo that is moving the fastest because that means the search is easier in that line. i stuck all my secrets in my belt before going in most of the time and it was fine ans sometimes left my stuff in my pockets on accident but never got anything confiscated.
