My friends and I are planning on leaving Wednesday afternoon and chillin in the Wal-Mart parking lot that night. Is there any way to not be put in BFE and still get to the site kind of early? We'd rather not hang around Wal-Mart for a long time in the morning. Any help would be appreciated.
i was actually wondering the same thing. both years i've gone we've left here, hour half north of the city, around the 6-8 pm. first year had no clue what to expect and it was nice to get down there and setup and whatnot. its nice to get there and get setup wednesday night and get night of sleep after driving straight through to get there. the back area is cool but it would just be more convenient to be closer as not to miss a lot of shit walking back and forth. might have to bring 2nd tent for tent only for quick trips back before latenight.

You'll get hypothesis from everyone here in a bit.... but from my past five years at roo...
ITS RANDOM.
Don't go in early off the bushy branch road....you'll get that far ass camp site that is south of centeroo (you have to walk around VIP) Wens nighters early thursday morning people from Bushy branch get put in this section.
I've had better spots coming in from the highway. If they send you down bushy branch road. Get back on the freeway and head south..uturn and head north, and get in line on the highway.
I still think its random...depending on how they start...but I've had the best luck coming from the highway and getting in line when they ask (thursday morning)
We came from the highway last year about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday night and we ened up in BFE - but as I keep saying - it was not that bad - when I look at the map of some of the campgrounds - it seems actually closer then if you are way way up north of Centeroo

Last year we we got to the Wal Mart on Wednesday night/Thursday morning, and we hauled balls to the entrance when they said the gates were open, and we ended up in that campsite where you have to walk past VIP (we were in camp Pussy Galore, next to Oddjob and the other Bond-named camps).
The walk really wasn't that bad, but it really would take nearly a half hour to get to Centeroo from our tents at a standard walking pace. That said, it was pretty peaceful out there, and being able to go into the woods was nice, as opposed to the desert hell that was the main camping area on Friday morning. From what I've read, it seems like getting there during the day on Thursday gives you the best chance to be around Shakedown.
Hopefully this thread will help. I've seen afew more on here about arrival times and stuff. Try the search, but make sure you set it to include posts older than the last 7 days.

That's where we ended up. I guess that's not BFE? If that's not, what is? Basically, my hope is to get closer to centeroo or shakedown. I think that 20 minute walk really sapped a good amount of my energy.

man, thats a good idea! i've got an extra tent i could put there and stash stuff in! it'd be nice to have a place to put a small cooler w/ lunch, h2o, and a few brews!
im pretty sure no matter when you come in at the make shift exit entrance they open just for ROo that you will get placed fairly clsoe to centeroo. it wouldnt make sense for them to have people go through that entrance and make then drive all the wy across the campgrounds.
Hello all, First timer here. Doing the research for three others along with myself.
What is BFE? The way you all speak about it makes me want to avoid it like the plague. any insight on it? or is this the big black scary monsters of children's nightmares.
Thanks all.
Intending on arrive wednesday afternoon, I believe we are tenting only, with 4 people, 3 tents and a screenhouse.

^BFE = Bum F*ck Egypt = VERY far away from Centeroo (main concert area)
You would be wise to avoid it, if possible! Placement/campsites are pretty random at Bonnaroo. I've been the last three years and followed the same plan(and time) of action each time. We've been placed quite close('04), a decent distance ('05) and "BFE" ('06). It's as radom as you can imagine! I can't figure out a "sure-fire" method or time for arriving. I don't think there is one! If you arrive too early, you WILL get f*cked! Without a doubt! Too early = Wed - 1:00pm, thurs(apprx)! It changes dramaticly every year, or so it seems. These are my best "educated" guesses. I hope it helps but, it's really just a crap-shoot! Like I said, RANDOM as hell! Going "tent-only" can help but, you may have to lug your gear quite a distance! Like a 30-50 minute walk! Also, the "tent-only" area doesn't open until 7:00am on Thursday. The one constant truth? DO NOT show-up on Wednesday! That much is certain!
Good Luck!

that's where i camped in '05. but personally i'd rather not go into the secret garden (the woods)... i heard there were dirrty needles out there. and naked people shitting.

I guess that's better than if they're still clothed? ;D

if you don't wanna be in bfe don't get there wednsday. if you have to get there wed. then wait till thursday morn around 4-9 am to go to the entrance or you will 100% be stuck in bfe

I agree with the general concensus. If you really really don't want to be in BFE, then don't show up early. easy as that. We went in around 11:00 Thursday morning and were very close to where Shakedown (3rd Ave.) meets Bushy Branch - about a 12 minute walk to The Arch. Anything 20 minutes or less is considered close, imo.
And from what I've heard, the earlier posts about tent-only being closed until Thursday morning are also true. If you come early, you'll have to camp where they stick you for one night before you move to tent-only.
And if you show up late Thursday (after about 9:00 pm) you'll be out in camp numbers in the 80's or 90's which is even farther to walk than BFE. take a look at this map to see the camp numbers:
EDIT: and BFE is the lower right corner of the map - the camps aren't shown on this particular map.
See - that is why I keep saying - BFE is not that bad - plus you have to walk right past tent only to get to Centeroo which means yu can take a break at the Inforoo camp
I would think BFE would be the top right instead. ??? Those at the top right look way further out.
exactly - plus there is way less dust in BFE (if we have a dry year) and - if you are lucky enough to be along the tree line - there is the possibility of sleep thanks to shade from the trees

So, is the bottom right where they put you if you show up early-ish? Or is it the top right? Or both? Cause I'd rather be in the bottom right than the top right in that case.
Post by Sköldpadda on Apr 17, 2007 17:09:02 GMT -5
The top right is where I've read they put people who come in on Brushy Branch, or get there early.
To me, being up there in the top right around Camp Austin Powers would be a lot worse. My friend said it would take an hour to walk to Centeroo. Being in the bottom right would likely be better.
(I never saw any dirty needles in our woods, but that doesn't mean they weren't there. There were people pissing, though. We all had a spot stomped out where you had a decent degree of privacy. The poison ivy concerned me more.)

In 05 i was up in BFE near camp fat bastard (i think my exact camp was camp M but its not in that scan) it took us about 30-45 min walking depending on how many stops we made/how slow we were walking and we DIDnt go back to camp at all hardly during the day....
it pretty much sucked cept for once we were out there, it was quiet, and there was a mini-shakedown.
The only BFE I've dealt with was in the bottom right way off the picture shown, about 15-20 minutes or more off the page. It was a 45 minute walk to centeroo, though it was shaded and quiet. As I've said before, my sister got stuck there in '04 while I got in the bottom left corner of Clubber Lang (A minutes walk from Centeroo.) We were only a few cars apart in line. Try and explain that (I can't). IMHO, where they put you is a crapshoot. Though BFE in lower right will fill up early so as not to force traffic through the crowd.
BFE in upper right looks like a good walk also but could be filled anytime (though I would think later on so as not to have so many cars driving by people walking to the stages.
I'm getting there Thursday around 8am. It's worked for me every time so far.
got there late afternoon on thursday last year. all the digital signs were directing traffic to get off early and (i assume) take the road that takes you to bfe(bushy branch?).....as everyone was exiting in front of me, i blew right by with the rest of the local traffic and a couple of miles down, i see cars pulled over on the shoulder lane going into the temporary roo exit. i hopped in line there thinking i could be there for a while, but i was searched and parked within 45 minutes and a just 5 min walk to centeroo.
the entrance right off the interstate coming from the south is the key.
thursday morning is also key.
been every year... first year waited 13 hours in line.... which was better than 36 for coventry, but still not good.... they've got it worked out... its just up to you to get there at the right time.
We've got put right around Camp Fat Bastard both years that I've gone...It's a hell of a walk, especially if it rains...and you really don't wanna make the trek back to your camp at the end of the night. Part of my crew is setting up at the camping only area as soon as it opens and we are going to get there sometime Thursday day. I'll probably stay in the tent only area, unless I get a really good camp site.
