i have herd that the 5 and 6 day coolers are good to use at roo. but they are expensive and i want to know for sure how good they are b4 i buy one. are they worth it? anybody have good luck with these? lay it one me folks!
The Colman Xtreme 5 day works well. No problem getting a sold 4 days out of your ice. Just don't let any dumb buddies leave the lid open. Picked up my 52 quart for around 39.00. Also, freezing some water bottles helps keep the ice longer. Hope that helps.
they work fine. i've used my newest one several times now. just took it to the richmond race. filled it on thursday, cleaned it yesterday. i still had a ton of ice left.
I just picked up the 70 quart 5 day extreme cooler (Coleman) and I've also seen them at Walmart. (I'm in Canada) I picked this 70 quart up for 49.99 Canadian. It was on Sale.
One of the guys from work who is an avid partier said you can fill it with beer for a whole 5 days and you will still have ice after 5 days. They are worth the money really.
I have the biggest(about three butts wide) Igloo and have used it for the last three roos. My formula(which I LOVE)---- Glass homebrews laying down all across the bottom(possibly two rows high). Next -2-3 cases of previously frozen bottled water. Food on top. Add a blatantly seen unbroken 12 pack of cheap beer (for glass distraction and giveaways) in an obvious position near the top.
Warning-LOAD THIS ALL VERY CLOSE TO THE VEHICLE. The handles will not support the weight of the volume this baby can hold. Learned that the hard way it's first time out.
Also, bring a regular sized "daily" cooler. Each morning, load the daily cooler from the 5 day cooler with beer, food, and frozen bottled water for the day. This keeps you from opening and closing your cold cooler endlessly through out the heat of roo. If you follow this plan, you Wiil have icy water in bottles left when you leave out Monday !
A daily bag of ice in your daily cooler is also recommended.
Well worth buying the 5 day coolers ! I've even slept on top of mine !
Coleman five day is great. We bring 2 to 3, we may attepmt a large 70 qt from our tailgating adventure this year. But yes the 5 days are well worth it.

We always use our Coleman 5day as our "deep freeze". We only open it once a day. We use 2 smaller coolers for water and beer and things we're always needing.

Hey I had the choice between the coleman xtreme and this igloo max cold, both 70 gallons for 39.99. I bought the Igloo because it has a pull up handle and wheels, but now that I look at the label, the igloo says 5 days, but not in 90 degree weather like the coleman does. You didn't have any problem keeping ice in the TN heat, did you? I'm debating whether I should take it back to get the Coleman.
In response to ermboyd: I've never used an Igloo, but I can tell you that my Coleman 5-Day was still pretty icy come Monday morning.
As for the overall practicality of a 5-day cooler -- if you attend a few festivals a year, or even just head to Roo every summer, it's worth paying a few more bucks. Hell, when we have a party at our house, I'll just let the cooler sit out on the patio for a couple days after the fact and fish beers out of there. ;D Plus, when you look at comparable sized coolers that aren't equipped with the ability to cool for multiple days in extreme heat, the price difference really isn't that much.

Hmm.... Thanks! Maybe I'll go back and get the Coleman one instead!
Mine has survived 4 bonnaroos so far and many concerts with no problems. I suggest making a few giant blocks of ice instead on many cubes, they will last a lot longer. Look at your local costco or whatever warehouse store is near you, they usually stock them for lower prices than sporting goods stores.
Thanks! I'll stick with this one... watch me forget about the handles and drop a full 70 gal cooler on my foot.... I'll be the one limping all weekend :-) haha
This is the best price ($89.99 w/free shipping) I've ever seen personally for the Coleman Steel 5 day cooler so I thought I'd pass it on.... I think about buying it every year, so I'm finally doing it

My family had one of those when I was growing up...actually, I think they still have it. That thing is one serious cooler! It is heavy, but it does what it's supposed to do...stay cold!
now that I'm looking at the Amazon site, on the reviews it says some people bought it for $50 on there!!!! I stalk amazon every year from January to roo and I've never seen it that low Oh well, I'm buying today before it goes back up to $130!.....

Just keep watching to see if the price goes down -- Amazon has a 30-day price guarantee. Check out this article from Slate earlier this year:
If you buy something Amazon sells (not third parties) and the price goes down within 30 days, call them up and they will either refund the difference or apply it to your Amazon account as a promotional credit immediately. I've done it -- it's easy.

wow i shop amazon all the time and i never knew that! thank so much! ;D
I just picked up the rubbermaid 5 day cooler. Its only 50qt but on sale at Walmart for $27. I opted not to get the bigger Coleman one cause I have an additional smaller cooler, I couldn't justify paying the extra 13 dollars and well Ive outdone myself on Roo supplies this year so I gotta start budgeting

Neat cooler, but watch out - I do not think that is a 5 day cooler.

Are you talking about the rubbermaid one? It says on the sticker 5 days. Instructions give the best ways to keep your ice and beverages cold for 5 days.
