So this will be Bonnaroo #2 for me and, of course, I'm crazy excited. Looking back on last year though, maintaining energy was pretty much the ONLY issue I (and others in my group) encountered.
Between beer, walking, dancing, walking, sun, walking and beer, we found ourselves taking naps and missing music because of it - we collectivley staked out a spot at the back of Bill Frisell last year and slept while the music was going on, but I can't help but feel like I missed out even if it was pretty necessary.
Obviously one strategy is to moderate drinking. Red Bull and other energy drinks are another option, but we looked into those while buying supplies last year and they are VERY costly. Someone recommended to me making regular stops at the 'Roo Cafe for espresso, but I fear that would just cost too much over the long haul and dehydrate me more combined with everything else.
I'll probably take a nap after half of The Police this year before the late nights, same with Tool (both depending on how much I'm enjoying the sets), but besides that...how do you folks do it? I'd love to be able to see music from noon until daybreak the next day, but I'd just get pooped.

Just take it easy and don't drink too much. When the sun wakes you up in the morning, go into Centeroo and doze in one of the tents (Cinema preferably). There are large, shaded and very well ventilated. Take many short naps everyday and avoid drinking energy drinks. They just make you more tired in the long run (especially if you drink them all day). That's all I got.
Im only food and water during the day.......once the sun goes down then Ill start engaging in other activities
this is my strategy - stay relatively sober and hydrated during the day when the sun is high and it's still very hot. you'll find that you have much more energy in the evening, which is when i usually have the most fun.
also, make your camp site as comfy as possible. we brought shade tarps and fans - this helps tremendously in the morning when it starts to get warm. you'll sleep longer and it will be more restful, which will help boost your energy level throughout the next day's journey.
listen to your body! don't force yourself to stand & dance when you feel like sitting, don't force yourself to stay awake during someone's set when you're tired (unless its one of your 'must see' acts)
if you get hungry/thirsty go get something immediately, don't wait for the end of a set. basically just take care of yourself and don't get too wasted to the point that you ignore what your body is telling you and you should be fine.
Maybe I'll throw myself to the dogs, but my back's not to the wall Maybe I'll lay some bricks for the man, but the days just aren't that long So if I settle back and chill will I see far enough to feel the angel's dream? I thought it was the Story of the World!

definately agreed.. once you "feel" thirsty, your body is already dehydrated too.. drink water constantly in the heat even if you don't feel thirsty
I had Gatorade in my camelbak last year. I tried to drink at least two camelbaks full every day. It wasn't that hard, really.
Other than that, as was already mentioned, sleep as much as you can, when you can. The sand-bottomed tents can be a good place for rest during the day, especially during the smaller, less-crowded sets. Last year, we were unfortunately camped in BFE, so it was a pain to walk back to the site for naps. I slept through one headliner, but had such a good time that night that it didn't matter much to me.
Last year was my first roo and I did a lot of walking. Wandering around with no plan. This year I am checking out the all band's websites and deciding which ones I want to see most. That way I will have a plan when the final schedule comes out.

This maybe completely obvious...but don't rely on the energy drinks. Regardless of saying they're full of other "energy fuel"...mainly they're just caffeine which is just as dehydrating as alcohol.

Don't hop from act to act. Pick a show and stay with it. Pushing yourself in the hotter-than-hell Tennessee sun will cost you later in the day (I.E. Missing the kick ass late night shows because you are too tired.).

This was half of what got me through last year's roo. And I know it holds true for many other people I have talked to as well. Stay clean during the day, and party at night, it helps a lot.
Also, after you wake up from the intense heat in the morning, go into centeroo and take a nap under that tent. It helps a lot, its cool, there are no shows at that time, and there will be a ton of other people with the same idea.
The company I work for, we supply conveniance stores. So I get tons of Gator Ade, bottled water, Arizona tea and Energy drinks. I bring like 4 mixed cases of product and samples and keep the coolers filled everyday. Last year I brought 7 cases of beer for 3 of us also. I over plan and then like to share with the neighbors. We then are treated great by all because of the selction and just the fun drinks. Look for us in VIP and I will share with the other VIPers.
how about those 5 hour engery 'shots' made by chaser? anyone tried one of those yet before?
I tried one at work, (I work third shift), it tasted like cr*p and did nothing for me. Water, at least 4-5 hours of sleep each day and quality food in small amounts. Many small meals rather than a couple pig out sessions is better for maintaining energy. My only worry is the heat. I live in Minnesota for a reason.
I have found this new appreciation for shade. Its been 85 degrees the past 3 days here and Ive been making myself sit outside in the sun for long periods of time. Im not quite sure if its really doing any kind of conditioning for my body but i think it is for my mind
I will do my best to survive. Hopefully I will be too busy meeting people and having fun to notice the heat. When things get too hot there always is the air conditioned tent in VIP. On the other hand, the heat should be good for losing some unwanted pounds. ;D 34 days to go, can you believe it!

Sit during some of the shows (especially during the day). There's no rule that you have to stand for every show. Get a comfortable, easily portable chair, kick back and relax while you're checking out a new band. Easy way to conserve your energy/legs.
